Shear behavior of reinforced HPC beams made of a low cement content without shear reinforcements

  • High-performance concrete (HPC) usually has higher paste and lower coarse aggregate volumes than normal concrete. The lower aggregate content of HPC can affect the shear capacity of concrete members due to the formation of smooth fractured surfaces and the subsequent development of weak interface shear transfer. Therefore, an experimental investigation was conducted to study the shear strength and cracking behavior of full-scale reinforced beams made with low-cement-content high-performance concrete (LcHPC) as well as conventional HPC. A total of fourteen flexural reinforced concrete (RC) beams without shear reinforcements were tested under a two-point load until shear failure occurred. The primary design variables included the cement content, the shear span to effective depth ratio (a/d), and the tensile steel ratio (${\rho}_w$). The results indicate that LcHPC beams show comparable behaviors in crack and ultimate shear strength as compared with conventional HPC beams. Overall, the shear strength of LcHPC beams was found to be larger than that of corresponding HPC beams, particularly for an a/d value of 1.5. In addition, the crack and ultimate shear strength increased as a/d decreased or ${\rho}_w$ increased for both LcHPC beams and HPC beams. This investigation established that LcHPC is recommendable for structural concrete applications.

Seismic Resistance of Cast-In-Place Concrete-Filled Hollow PC Columns (현장타설 콘크리트 채움 중공 PC기둥의 내진성능)

  • Two types of cast-in-place concrete-filled hollow PC (HPC1, HPC2) columns were developed to reduce lifting load of heavy-weight PC columns and to improve the structural integrity of joints. To form the hollow PC columns, a couple of prefabricated PC panels was used for HPC1, and special hoops were used for HPC2. Lateral pressure of wet concrete on PC faces was measured while placing the concrete inside the columns. To evaluate the seismic resistance, full scale specimens of two HPC columns and a conventional RC column were tested under combined axial compression and lateral cyclic loading. The test results showed that the structural performance of the proposed HPC columns such as intial stiffness, maximum strength, and displacement ductility was comparable to that of the conventional RC column, but the energy dissipation of HPC2 slightly decreased after rebar-buckling. However, all the test specimens satisfied the energy dissipation requirement specified in ACI 374.

  • This study aimed at verifying the effect of hydroxypropyl cellulose(HPC) treatment on polyethylene glycol(PEG)-treated waterlogged wood for surface stabilizing. This research investigated macroscopic and microscopic appearance, color change, weight change, and dimensional change. And effect of HPC was verified through variance analysis (ANOVA) and least significant difference test(LSD). HPC formed thin layer on the surface of wood specimen, and blocked the pore of tracheid and the gap between the crack. Specimens without deterioration showed no invisible change except HPC 1,000,000 treatment group. Whitening was appeared at the sound surface of HPC 1,000,000 treated wood. Specimens with deterioration showed a little color difference change by external moisture adsorption. Thin layer of HPC on the surface of wood specimen was maintained after the deterioration, and this HPC layer significantly suppressed the weight and dimensional change by moisture adsorption.

  • 한국과학기술정보연구원 융합기술연구본부 재난대응HPC연구센터에서는 초고성능컴퓨팅 기반의 풍수해 예측 및 피해 정보 생산기술을 연구개발하여 재난 재해에 대한 국가현안 대응 의사결정지원 시스템을 구축 중에 있다. HPC 기반의 풍수해 예측 시스템과 빅데이터 분석 기반의 피해 예측 시스템에 대한 연구를 독자적으로 진행하는 가운데, 최근 여러 분야에 적용되고 있는 빅데이터 분석 기술을 HPC 기반의 풍수해 예측 시스템에 적목시켜 더 정확하고 신속한 풍수해 예측 정보 생산에 기여하고자 한다. 본 연구는 빅데이터 분석을 위한 학습 데이터 생산을 목적으로 HPC 기반 태풍 예측의 주요 기상 인자들을 조정하여 서로 다른 성능의 예측 모델을 구축하고, 각 모델 별 태풍 시뮬레이션의 성능을 진단하였다. 향후 빅데이터 분석을 통한 예측 성능의 검증을 위해 HPC 기반 풍수해 예측 및 검증 데이터를 최대한 생산하고자 한다.

Early Age Properties of HPC Columns under Construction-Site Conditions

  • High performance concrete (HPC) is widely used in civil engineering due to its high durability and low permeability etc. Compared with ordinary concrete, HPC may develop much higher AS (autogenous shrinkage) at early age due to the relative low water cement (w/c) ratio and adding of mineral admixtures, which is one of the main reasons for early age micro-cracking of HPC structures. This paper studies the early age property of HPC columns under similar construction-site surroundings by embedded strain transducers. Results show that for HPC structure, early-age autogenous shrinkage especially within the first day after concrete pouring is pretty large. AS within the first day are 60% larger than those for 14 days in this research for all specimens. Therefore it should be taken into account for structure durability. By comparison of PHPC (plain HPC column) and RHPC (reinforced HPC column) specimens, the effects of reinforced bars on AS and temperature distribution have been analyzed. Also the influence of w/c ratio on AS is demonstrated.

Development of the Construction Procedures Prototype and Analysis of Construction Period for the HPC Method (HPC공법의 공사절차 프로토타입 개발 및 공사기간 분석)

  • HPC method is developing to improve the constructability and structural performance of the existing PC method. The objective of this study is to develop construction procedures and to analysis of construction period for HPC method. In order to develop construction procedures, the building construction data of the existing half-slab method was analyzed. Analyzing design drawings and specifications of nine construction cases, a prototype of half-slab method, was drawn. Applying the core technology of HPC method to the drawn prototype of half-slab method, a prototype of HPC method, was developed. The differences of both methods were 'installing PC column' and 'placing topping concrete'. To analysis the differences of both methods, seven construction cases were analyzed. According to the analysis for HPC method, cases1 and 2 had columns divided for construction shortened about 16% of a construction period. The schedule of column assembly work was analyzed to be shortened much. That is judged to be because the use of a hollow PC column leads to a decrease in the number of columns. In particular, if HPC method is applied to a building construction site using large columns, it is analyzed to shorten a construction period more than the existing Half-slab method.

  • The purpose of this study is two fold. First, we will explore the meaning, spread effect and consideration factors of manufacturing innovation in terms of theoretical perspective. Second, we will verify the status of high performance computing (HPC) utilization policy, and analyze the situation of US and Korea. Manufacturing innovation policy in each country has the objective in common which aims epoch-making enhancing of productivity. Nevertheless it can be characterized as innovation oriented policy rather than simple trial of productivity improvement. For long term growth and employment, the need for reindustrialization instead of deindustrialization should be recognized. Employment may be decreased temporarily and partially due to manufacturing innovation. However net effect of employment increasing will be bigger because of indirect employment. HPC utilization policy has the importance as a separate movement other than as a subset of manufacturing innovation. US government is trying to eliminate the bottleneck elements in adoption of HPC based M&S activity, and to promote the way of problem solving through the mechanism of public-private partnership, in spite of low level of HPC based M&S. In Korea, ecosystem related with the activity of HPC based M&S is needed, and expansion of M&S utilization in manufacturing companies and fostering of M&S supporting institutions will be important for this task.

  • 최근 방송 통신 기술의 눈부신 발전에 힘입어 등장한 데이터 방송(Data Broadcasting)은 시청자에게 영상과 음성환 아니라 기존에는 접할 수 없었던 다양한 서비스들을 제공하고 있다. 이런 데이터 방송을 수신하기 위해서는 TS로부터 데이터를 추출하고 처리할 수 있는 미들웨어(middleware)가 포함된 셋탑박스(set-top box)가 필요하다. 그리하여 MHP, OCAP, ACAP 등 여러 데이터 방송 시스템의 미들웨어 표준 규격이 정의되었다. 그 중 MHP의 경우, OpenMHP라는 오픈 소스 프로젝트를 통해 PC 상에서 간단하게나마 MHP API를 테스트 해 볼 수 있는 환경을 제공해 주고 있다.[1] 하지만 셋탑박스 내에서 하드웨어를 이용하는 작업들은 거의 구현되지 못 했기 때문에 테스트에 있어 극히 제한적일 수밖에 없었다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 소프트웨어적으로 셋탑박스 환경을 에뮬레이션 해주는 Virtual Set-Top Box(VSTB)를 설계, 구현하였다. 셋탑박스가 없는 환경이나 간단한 시뮬레이션이 필요한 경우, 실시간 스트림 역다중화와, 파싱, 필터링 작업등이 지원되는 가상 셋탑박스 시스템을 통해 MHP 미들웨어 API를 테스트하는데 유용한 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다.

  • 포레스터 리서치(Forrester Research)에 따르면 클라우드 시장은 2010년 400억 달러를 기점으로 2020년 2,400억 달러로 성장할 것이라고 예측하고 있다. 급격하게 성장하고 있는 클라우드의 pay-per-use는 그동안 시스템 활용의 한계를 느끼던 HPC(High Performance Computing) 사용자에게 상당한 매력으로 작용하고 있다. 그러나 현재 대부분의 클라우드는 HPC와 접목하기에는 한계들이 존재한다. 본고는 HPC가 클라우드로 이동하기 위해 해결해야 하는 도전과제와 장점을 알아보고, 현재 HPC 클라우드의 산업 현황에 대해 살펴본다. HPC와 클라우드 접목에 따른 HPC 위주의 성능 측정의 문제와 새로운 측정 지수 도입의 필요성 및 HPC가 클라우드로 서비스되기 위해 클라우드가 지원해야 할 요소들에 대해 기술하였다. 제기된 이슈들에 대한 접근이 해결된다면 HPC의 클라우드로의 전환도 머지 않을 것이다.

The Quality Characteristics of Brown Stock Prepared by Different Methods (Brown stock 추출방식에 따른 품질 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The HPC(High Pressure Cooking) method and the traditional method of brown stock preparation are compared in terms of gelatin, free amino acid and sensory evaluation. The HPC outperform the traditional method. In addition, free amino acid content of brown stock increased when HPC method is applied. In traditional method, however, the contents of free amino acids gradually increased in proportion to the length of heating times. When the HPC method is used for brown stock, the level of alanine and methionine were relatively higher than that of traditional method. In order to measure the quality of brown stock made from different methods, the highly qualified chefs were selected. They favoured the taste and smell made from HPC while they preferred traditional approach to HPC in terms of stickiness and appearance(colour). It is turned out that five hours is the most appropriate heating time for HPC method to obtain the maximum extraction of amino acid. The results suggest that the quality of brown stock from HPC method is not at all inferior to that of traditional brown stock while the HPC approach can improve the level of productivity by saving the labour cost, food cost and time.
