  • The technology of high-speed electrical machines is particularly relevant to applications involving electrical power generation and high-speed motors with high power density and high efficiency. Due to the development of improved materials for electrical machines, power electronic elements and design technology, the high-speed electrical machines are being rapidly introduced into industrial applications. The introduction of high-speed electrical machines has created a new market for electrical machines and will, as an application, contribute to the development of modern electrical machines. This paper deals with applications and market trends and KERI's activities in high-speed electrical machines.

  • Recently, more attention has been paid to the development of high-speed permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motors, since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density, small size, and low weight. In high-speed PM machines, core loss and windage loss form a larger proportion of the total losses than usual in conventional mid- or low speed machines. This article deals with the analysis on the core loss and windage loss in PM synchronous motor for high-speed application. Using the data information from a manufacturer and non-linear curve fitting, this paper investigates the magnetic behavior and its core losses in the stator core using the electrical steels. And, the windage loss is calculated according to the variation of the rotational speed, motor inner pressure and temperature.

연속재생 DPF의 재생 성능에 미치는 차량 운행패턴의 영향 (Influence of Driving Pattern on Regeneration Performance of Continuously Regenerating Diesel Particulate Filter)

  • This paper is to investigate the influence of driving patterns of slow and high speed vehicles on the performance of continuously regenerating diesel particulate filter(DPF) system matched with operating conditions in field application. The DPF performance test for field application was carried out for two identical DPFs installed to slow and high speed vehicles. A slow speed vehicle was selected among local buses which have driving patterns to repeat running and stop frequently, while a high speed vehicle was prepared to have long route of high speed over 60km/h like inter-city buses. In this test, the regeneration performance on the DPF of slow speed vehicle deteriorated because of high soot load index(SLI) in spite of same balance point temperature(BPT) distribution for high speed vehicle. The DPF of slow speed vehicle melted in the end because the rapid increase of back pressure caused high temperature over $1200^{\circ}C$ in the ceramic wall of DPF. The PM components like ash collected to the filter in the DPF were analyzed in order to investigate the cause of the defect and provide an operation performance of DPF system. In the result of the analysis, high levels of lubrication oil ash(Ca, Mg, P, Zn) were detected.

직접 구동방식의 터보 압축기를 위한 초고속 전동기 구동 시스템 개발 (The Development of a super high speed motor driving system for the direct drive type turbo compressor)

  • There are screw, reciprocating type turbo compressor by structure in an air compressor which is essential equipment on the industrial spot. Recently, the application range of a turbo compressor tend to be wide gradually. And this type of compressor needs high speed rotation of impeller in structure so high ratio gearbox and conventional induction motor driving required. This mechanical system have results of increased moment of inertia and mechanical friction loss. Recent studies of modern turbo compressor have been applied to developing super high speed BLDC motor and driver which remove gearbox that make its size small and mechanical friction loss minimum. To accomodate this tendency, we tried to develope a super high speed motor drive system for 150Hp, 70,000rpm direct drive Turbo compressor using DSP(Digital Signal Processor) and SVPWM(Space Vector Modulation PWM) technique. The results of this specific application show that super high speed driver and controller could be implemented well with digital electronics.

  • In this paper, high-speed Hybrid MAC (Medium Access Control layer) implementation suitable for smart grid applications is researched. MB-OFDM (Multi-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is considered for high-speed communication method in smart grid application. In this paper, the MAC adopts the distributed network managing method. Also, the MB-OFDM merit of high-speed transfer rate of up to 480Mbps must be supported. Hence, this paper presents an efficient hardware-software integration (co-design) method in order to realize a high- speed transmission, and a realizing method of distribution network. Finally, MAC performance and reliability based on MB-OFDM PHY (PHYsical layer) are confirmed through simulation and emulation.

  • This paper is a study of the eddy current brake designed to replace the air brake of railway application. The eddy current brake has the advantage of being able to take a high current density compared to the other application because this brake is used for applying brakes to the rolling stock for a shorter amount of time. Also, this braking system has the merit of being able to take a high current density at low speed rather than at high speed, because the heat generated by the low speed operation is less than that of the high speed operation. This paper also presents a method of improving the output torque of the eddy current brake at low speed operation through a change of the winding as well as the basic design.

  • 고속철도시스템은 열차의 안전운행에 요구되는 각종 신호의 공급 및 정보의 교환을 위해 LTE를 기반으로 하는 LTE-R 방식의 이동통신기술을 사용하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 LTE-R 기반 고속철도통신에서 전송되는 응용트래픽의 전송성능을 분석하고, 이를 토대로 고속철도통신의 응용트래픽 운용 조건을 살펴본다. 성능 분석은 NS-2를 기반으로 하는 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 사용하며, VBR, CBR 등의 전송성능을 측정한다. 전송효율, 지연, 패킷손실율 등을 성능 측정 및 분석 파라미터로 사용한다.

광역급행철도 터널에 고속 R-bar 적용에 관한 연구 (Study for Application of High Speed R-bar System in Metro Express Railway Tunnel)

  • Maximum speed of the train could not exceed over 160km/h with R-bar system in the underground type tunnel structure. By the research to overcome this speed limit, maximum speed has reached up to 200~250km/h recently by new R-bar system. It is under discussion to construct Metro Express Line between Gyonggido and Seoul which requires maximum speed 180km/h~230km/h. New R-bar is an optimal system to achieve the speed improvement in this line. This study shows application of the high speed R-bar system in the underground tunnel section.
