  • The objective of this paper is to address to the providing an adequate noise and vibration solution, required for High Speed Rail while maintaining the stability criteria of the ChonAn station structure, the first constructed in Korean High Speed Railway. The significant acoustic pressure level will be induced by the high speed trains passing-by. Therefore, the high level study of this case is necessary. The acoustic pressure level of 85 dB(A) inside the ChonAn station is expected, and the spaces below concrete slab are not suitable for commercial purpose, thus installation of filtering systems (spring boxes containing viscous dampers, ballast mats and acoustic shield) are provided to reduce the effect of the noise and vibration to acceptable level of 55 dB(A). But, a major drawback of application of the previously conducted experimental results was that the actual effect of installation of filtering system was never been validated. Therefore, the acquisition of noise and vibration on the present structure were obtained and compared to the computer simulations. These predicted the behavior of the station reasonably well. Also, the installation of filtering systems gave the superior reduction on noise and vibration. This application is successfully adapted without scarifying stability criteria related to the structural stability including excessive deformations or displacements. Three traffic operation safety limits: deck vertical acceleration, deflection of the structure, and longitudinal displacement of the slab were satisfactory.

  • This paper proposes a high speed SRM drive system for blower application with a new 4-level inverter and precise excitation position generator. For a high speed blower, a proper inverter and control method are proposed and the output characteristics are analyzed. In order to get a fast build-up and demagnetization of excitation current, a 4-level inverter system is proposed. The proposed 4-level inverter has additional charge capacitor, power switch and diode in the conventional asymmetric converter. The charged high voltage is supplied to the phase winding for fast current build-up, and demagnetization current is charged to additional capacitor of the 4-level inverter. In addition, a precise excitation position generator can reduce turn-on and turn-off angle error according to sampling period of digital control system. The proposed high speed SRM drive system is verified by computer simulation and experimental results.

  • Dynamic response of high-speed railway bridges is important due to the possibility of resonance from continuous and repeated action of high-speed train running. The designer's decision and application affect the result of dynamic analysis significantly, therefore guideline for dynamic analysis is required. On the purpose of the selection of resonable model for dynamic analysis, this study investigated load distribution effect.

  • Ten years have passed since my last visit to Korea on the occasion of the International Symposium on High Speed Rail Systems organized by the Korean Transport Institute in October 1989. At that time, it was the objective to introduce the maglev and VHSR (very high speed rail) systems with their different areas of application and to discuss them with local partners against the background of the Seoul-Pusan HSR project. Congratulations on the success of the Centennial seminar. I am much pleased to be invited to the memorable seminar and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Korean members' hospitality. • SRMs(Switched Reluctance Motors) are much interested in high speed applications due to the mechanical robustness, simple structure and high efficiency. In spite of many advantages of SRMs, a higher torque ripple discourages the adoption of SRMs in a high speed application. This paper presents a simple negative torque of tail current compensation scheme using a modified TSF(Torque Sharing Function) for the high speed SRMs. Because of the short commutation in the high speed region, the negative torque from the tail current makes the high torque ripple. In order to reduce and compensate the negative torque from tail current, the proposed control scheme produces an additional compensating torque with a reference torque in the active phase winding. And the compensating value is dependent on the tail current of the inactive phase winding. Furthermore, the switching signals of the outgoing phase are fully turned off to restrict the extended tail current, and the torque error of the outgoing phase is compensated by the incoming phase. The proposed modified TSF control scheme is verified by the computer simulations with 30,000[rpm] high speed 4/2 SRM. The simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • Recently, PM-high speed steel(PM-HSS) has reportedly been a good alternative material for rolling mill because of its superior performance to conventional HSS. This paper has been aimed to investigate the possibility for application to rolling contact element for PM-HSS by X-ray diffraction technique. The X-ray elastic constant for PH-HSS has been found by X-ray diffraction during the four-point bending test. Residual stress and half-value breadth on the contact surface during rolling contact fatigue process by X-ray diffraction have also been measured. The result of this study shows that the application of X-ray diffraction technique to PM-HSS could be as possible alternative material as conventional HSS. Half-value breadth on rolling contact surface by X-ray diffraction is not changed during rolling contact fatigue process. On the other hand, the residual stress is changed. This suggests that dislocation reaction has been hardly occurred in rolling contact, depending on super-saturated carbon in PM-HSS.

  • High-speed GaAs IC Logic Gates being widely studied and developed in the develped countries were reanalysed and reexamined through SPICE simulations. And, furthermore, the detailed examinations of their characteristics such as operation characteristics and conditions, integration densities, service-ableness, and the limitation of both fabrication and application, give us a clue of the feasibility and application of them in the real integrated circuits. This paper will provide a reasonably good guide to set-up one of goals or future development of high-speed GaAs IC's being led by the goverment recently in our country.

  • A Korea next-generation high-speed rail system represents a typical example of large- scale multi-disciplinary systems, consisting of subsystems such as train, electrical hardware, electronics, control, Information, communication, civil technology etc. The system design and acquisition data of the large-scale system must be the subject under strict configuration control and management. The system therefore, must be developed using systems engineering that is a efficient and effective methodology to design such a complex system and manage its development. This paper presents the results from a computer-aided systems engineering application to the Korea next generation high-speed railway project. Especially, the focus of the study was on requirement management and PBS management.

  • This paper demonstrates an analysis of harmonics at the high speed railway substation and proved on this countermeasure using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tool. First, high speed railway feeding system is composed using PSCAD/EMTDC electrical railway feeding system model in advance. Second, This paper applications line capacitance values as feeder-trolley, trolley-rail and feeder-rail to analysis harmonics more accuracy in advance did not application. This capacitance values calculate using the EMTP(Electro Magnetic Transient Program). Third, the tractions are arranged in the section that substation supplies power, and this paper take the simulation each case(fractions composition amount) to see harmonic propagation from traction to substation. As a result, generated harmonics at traction can confirmed that harmonics did not reduce at utility source. This harmonics have an influence on bulk power system. Finally, this paper introduces the methods of harmonics effect minimum. This paper proved harmonics reduce effect through the passive filters application.
