  • By the means of pervasiveness of ICT, ICT firms in the dynamic competition try to get the competitive advantage through the combination with the other industrial technologies and the firms in other industries also seek innovations in this way. To ICT suppliers, the application industries were completely different before but if ICT is applied to that industries once, the convergence phenomenon could occur as a part of an ICT industry. So, this research focuses the causality between ICT supplier's behavior and technological convergence according to the research question about what should ICT firms do for ICT convergence. We observed technological changes in the automotive industry through the Nasdaq listed firms' patent activities of 10-year period from the perspective of evolutionary theory. As a result, while the innovativeness of technological trials by ICT suppliers enhances the possibility of technological convergence, diversity of those can reduce the emergence of ICT convergence. This implies that ICT firms should focus specialized technologies for convergence rather than various technological options for the uncertain future.

  • Convergence is now the trend of knowledge information society. Information technology and knowledge transfer are main sources of convergence. There are many articles which studied outcomes of convergence while there are few articles that try to study the process of convergence. The purpose of this study is to investigate how convergence is dynamically formalized. For the analysis, we used Institutional Analysis and Development(IAD) framework from the point of convergence. IAD framework could synthetically study the origin and the process of convergence. We investigated the case of sillicon valley whether or not dynamics of ICT convergence could be explicable by IAD framework. The results shows that ICT technology and knowledge could be the enabler for the formation of convergence. ICT technology accelerates convergence and knowledge convergence from information converge different technologies and industries. This article provides a theoretical foundation for future research to analyze dynamics of ICT convergence by the IAD framework. For the future work, it is recommended that a study is to be empirically analyzed the dynamics of ICT convergence.

  • As the ICT is an industry which is the basis of the technology convergence, it is the driving force of development for new business opportunities and existing industries. But, most of the existing studies for ICT convergence have identified the trend for convergence in technological terms. So, it is difficult to identify the convergence trend in the subject innovation perspective which leads the innovation activities In the ICT industry. The newly entered companies in the ICT industry are key indicators to identify the convergence trend. They have two specific characteristics that show the wide range of the convergence technology and the application rate of the convergence. Because previous studies did not take into account these two characteristics of the newly entered companies, so it is hard to analyze the exact convergence trend. Therefore, in this paper, we classify the patents for the ICT industry depending on the subject innovation. Then, we deduct the core convergence technology in the ICT industries and application area of the non-ICT industries.

  • The new Korean government sets its main policy direction as Creative Economy. The Creative Economy can be defined as a growth strategy that establishes new companies, enhances the competitiveness of established companies and creates new markets, industries and jobs in consequence of combining of creative imagination, science and technology and ICT. In this context, the concept of innovation cluster, which aims to foster technological innovations from an organic ecosystem perspective, can be a valid policy instrument for attaining Creative Economy. Innovation cluster can and must make a contribution to achieving the Creative Economy of Korea. In particular, the ICT Convergence Innovation Cluster will be a good strategy for this purpose. Based on this conceptual background, this paper analyzes a recently notable case of an ICT Convergence Cluster in Korea, Pangyo Technovalley (PTV). We argue that the Pangyo Technovalley is a representative cluster of converging ICT and science and technology. We identify the major factors for successful development of ICT cluster: regional government's flexible response to environmental change, careful pre-planning and balance between private and public involvement. In addition, we also found that additional factors, settlement condition for securing good workforce, agglomeration of various innovation actors for promoting convergence, and cluster network revitalization are also important for implementing the creative ICT convergence cluster.
