A Case of Keratitis, Ichthyosis and Deafness(KID) Syndrome (Keratitis, Ichthyosis, and Deafness(KID) 증후군 1례)

  • KID syndrome was named after the initials of the major three symptoms of the disease; keratitis, ichthyosis, and deafness. The syndrome was first introduced by Dr. Burns in 1915 who described one of his patients with those symptoms. In 1981, Dr. Skinner and his colleagues reported 17 patients who had keratitis, ichthyosis, and deafness. They also called the disease KID syndrome for the first time. After that, there have been only 60 cases of KID syndrome reported. KID syndrome may be presented with neurosensory deafness, vascularizing keratitis and such skin disorders as ichthyosis, ichthyosiform skin eruptions, and alopecia. Also, those with KID syndrome may suffer from repetitive infections, dental affections, hypohidrosis, growth delay and hepatic and renal abnormalities. The authors report the first case of KID syndrome in Korea with some references. The patient presented with keratitis, neurosensory deafness, and such characteristic skin disorders as ichthyosis and hyperkeratosis.

Smart Study's Strategy in the Kids Content Industry: VRIO Framework

  • Purpose: Korea has a long history of kid's content industries. Also, Korea's kid's content market has been thriving for a long time, but recently, a company called Smart Study has sharply raised Korea's status because of its competitive advantage and capability in the kid's content industry. Research design, data and methodology: This research has explored and examined how Smart Study was successful in kid's content industries. Also, the research examined the present and potential competitors in the kid's content industry. Results: We investigated and explored how they were different from other Korean kid industries through value, rare, inimitability, and organization (VRIO) framework. Conclusions: One of the primary reasons for their success is because Smart Study has strengths in marketing that brand character and making consumers loyal to the company. Lastly, this paper attempted to explain how they have promoted their company and investigated how other companies promote themselves in the kid's content industry. This paper has limitations. We could not explain all the fields of kid content. The kids' content has developed tremendously, but there are many hidden parts. It has been successful in Korea and is still growing and proliferating. Also, there is a slight lack of scarcity in distribution methods.

A Study on Space Representation of Kid Theme Park using Green Contents (그린콘텐츠를 적용한 키즈 테마파크 공간연출에 관한 연구)

  • As environmental pollution and resource exhaustion have been considered as social issues, interest in green content industries which lead low-carbon green growth is increasing. In various areas, green content products and programs have been presented. Of them, kid theme parks are designed to recognize fun and advantages eco-friendly consumption with green contents has and lead children to recognize the problems of environmental pollution and the importance of environment. This study aims to analyse kid theme parks using green contents and characteristics of their space representation. The analysis frame was made through theoretical examination for bibliographical data and a direct interview in terms of factors of green contents. For the analysis frame, visitors were directly interviewed from June to July, 2012. Cases of introduction were analysed to identify realization and characteristics of green contents. As a result of the analysis, it was discovered that kid theme parks using green contents pursued green stories, but they did not consider environment seriously in terms of content materials and methods of realization. To develop successful kid theme parks using green contents, multi-dimensional research is needed in various aspects and various contents such as media should be introduced. The parks should provide fun space for children and propagate green ideas. Its success can lead in green entertainment. The study will be helpful for design of future kid theme parks.

Development of Kid Height Measurement Application based on Image using Computer Vision (컴퓨터 비전을 이용한 이미지 기반 아이 키 측정 애플리케이션 개발)

  • Among growth disorders, 'Short Stature' can be improved through rapid diagnosis and treatment, and for that, it is important to detect early'Short Stature'. It is recommended to measure the height steadily for early detection of 'Short Stature' and checking the kid's growth process, but existing height measurement methods have problems such as time and space limitations, cost occurrence, and difficulty in keeping records. So in this paper, we proposed an 'Development of Kid Height Measurement Application based on Image using computer vision' method using smart phones, a medium that is highly accessible to people. In images taken through a smartphone camera, the kid's height is measured using algorithms from OpenCV, a computer vision library, and the measured heights were printed on the screen through 'a comparison graph with the standard height by gender and age' and 'list by date', made possible to check the kid's growth process. It is expected to measure height anytime, anywhere without time and space limitations and costs through this proposed method, and it is expected to help early detection of 'Short Stature' and other disorder through steady height measurement and confirmation of growth process.
