Cost Effective 60Hz FHD LCD with 800Mbps AiPi Technology

  • AiPi technology incorporates an embedded clock and control scheme with a point-to-point bus topology, achieving the smallest possible number of interface lines between a timing controller and source drivers. A 46" AiPi-based 10-bit FHD prototype requires only 20 interface lines, compared to 38 lines for mini-LVDS. The measured maximum data rate per one data pair is more than 800Mbps.

  • We have developed technology to fabricate large-size active matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays with good color purity. Using these innovations, we have developed a 40inch diagonal WXGA AMOLED full color display. Because the TFT circuitry occupies a large portion of the pixel structure, an efficient white emission OLED is essential to integrate the device onto the active matrix backplane. The development of these technologies enables OLED displays to fulfill the requirements for larger size applications such as HDTVs

  • We present an ultra-slim LCD module for 40-inch FHD TV. By employing edge-lit backlight system, module thickness of 10mm is achieved. To satisfy the luminance spec of 450 nits in FHD resolution, it is critical to adopt high efficient LED and optical components.

  • A 30-inch WQXGA+ TFT-LCD Monitor has been developed based on in-plane switching mode with multi-domain. This product adopts Cu electrode which, in spite of low resistivity, was not applied to TFT LCD products because of productivity and reliability problems etc. This low resistivity material makes it possible to clear the problem caused by line delay in such high resolution TFT-LCDs. As a results of successful adoption of innovative materials and technologies, our world's largest TFT-LCD Monitor has best performance for high information display.

  • In this paper, to improve the well-known photo conductivity degradation of amorphous silicon, a new LASER immersion treatment has been applied. The optical feedback control LED backlighting system with integrated LCD panel sensor increased the color variation less than 0.008 ${\Delta}u'v'$ compared to 0.025 for a non-feedback system.

  • We made a high-efficiency lamp with same spec. as a normal lamp by improving physical constants of a lamp and then analyzed varied effects. By applying novel physical constants to an EEFL, we acquired decrease of lamp operating power and voltage.

  • In these days, demand of a LCD monitor is remarkably increasing with development of the LCD technology. However, there are thermal problems for improvement of efficiency for the LCD monitor. Thus, this research analyzed thermal problems such as convection and conduction heat transfer characteristics in the LCD monitor using an infrared (IR) camera. Also, the results of the outer side of the front LCD panel using the IR camera have been compared with the results of the inner side of the front panel using T-type thermocouples. The equations have been derived for the temperature distribution of the inner side of the front LCD panel by a multiple regression method including variables for ambient temperature, humidity and temperature differences between the front and back panels of the LCD monitor.

  • Recently LG.Philips LCD (hereafter "LPL") has announced the development of the world's largest 100-inch TFT-LCD with Advanced Super IPS technology. This magnificent LCD achieves the feature of a full high definition resolution $1920{\times}1080(16:9)$, 600nit brightness, 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 92% color gamut, 180 degree viewing angle, and 5msec response time at all grays, targeted for HDTV and public display applications. Some unique technologies such as Cu bus line, advanced wide view polarizer, and high color gamut lamp were applied. A new stitching free technology was developed to overcome the size limitation of photo mask in both the TFT and CF processes. The size of the panel (100-inch) based on the wide format (16:9) is determined by the maximum efficiency of world's $1^{st}$ seventh generation line (glass size:$1950{\times}2250mm$) in LPL's Paju display cluster. In this paper, we will discuss the issues of 100-inch TFT-LCD.

  • We conducted visual perception experiments to determine the perception limits of motion blur based on human visual system at LCD TV's moving pictures. The motion blur can be expressed Blurred Edge Width (BEW). The results showed that the BEW of moving pictures should be below 3.4pixels (visual angle 4.2') at 3H distance in a living room environment.
