  • Functions of metadata, semantic and syntatic schemas, metadata service such as registries, repositories, the optimal metadata retrieval, and several considerations of implementation of digital libraries were the research scopes of this investigation. R&D outcomes of metadata subjects in the domestic community for the past 10 years were searched and analyzed. It illustrated the major results, distinctive trends as well as some insufficient aspects to satisfy the researchers and operators of metadata system development.

Design and Implementation of a Broadcasting Receiver for Bi-directional Personalized Broadcasting Service (양방향 맞춤형 방송 단말기의 설계 및 구현)

  • TV-Anytime metadata can be delivered by unidirectional or bi-directional network. In bi -directional environment, the special request of a client is sent to metadata service providers and then the providers provide the personalized metadata back to the client. In this paper. we introduce the design and implementation of a broadcasting receiver for personalized broadcasting service in bi-directional environment. We describe actual system configuration and usage examples for bi-directional personalized service. The implemented receiver provides various functions for a digital broadcasting recorder and is based on TV-Anytime specification and UDDI specification to provide the metadata service discovery.

A Study on Developing Metadata Elements and Database of the Science Information for Youth (청소년 과학정보 메타데이터 요소 및 데이터베이스 구축 연구)

  • This study intends to design a metadata service system of the science information for youth on the web based on the efficiency of the metadata system. Metadata scheme of the science information for youth on the web has been developed and designed metadata collection on the basis of the previously designed classification system. Metadata scheme of the science information for youth, which is consisted of six essential elements and four additional elements, has been brought out, compared to not only Dublin Core Metadata Element Set, but also the main studies related to domestic and foreign metadata projects. Based on the results of it, metadata database of the science information has been designed and it is expected to be applicable to metadata service system of the science information for youth on the web.

  • The convergence of metadata service and the PDR with digital storage device enables new services. Among which, providing dynamic commercials make it possible for the commercials stored in the PDR to be a beneficial information source instead of a dull and not-so-interesting time-consuming content. It also improves consumer concentration and makes the commercials more effective. This paper provides list of various functionality provided by dynamic personalized commercials based on metadata and PDR. The proposed information structure supporting these functionality is based on the digital item concept of MPEG-2I. This paper also provides brief description on how the proposed information structure can be used to implement the listed functionality of dynamic persona1ized commercials.

  • A metadata service is one of the important factors to affect the performance of cluster file systems. We propose a content-based load balancing algorithm that dynamically distributes client requests to appropriate metadata servers based on the types of metadata operations. By replicating metadatas and logging update messages in each server, rather than moving metadatas across servers, we significantly reduced the response time and evenly distributed client's requests among metadata servers.

  • This paper deals with how to operate the metadata for agricultural and livestock food product through the GS1 Source which is a GS1 standard metadata service. We defines GS1 standard identifiers for identifying food product and explain the guidelines for the methods how to document with GS1 standard schema and how to query the metadata in the storage of GS1 Source.
