A Conceptual Procedure of RAMS Centered Maintenance for Railway Systems (철도시스템의 RAMS 중심의 유지보수 정책 결정을 위한 개념적 절차)

  • There are two main parts to improve the quality and the efficiency of railway service. One is to acquire the system with high RAMS performance and the other is to keep it up. Therefore we need to specify RAMS requirements in the system specifications and verify them. In addition, it is necessary to monitor RAMS and to make operation and maintenance policies based on RAMS. This article presents RAMS centered maintenance procedure of which target is to continuously achieve the inherent RAMS performance of the acquired system. The method to evaluate the effect on RAMS and the conceptual optimal model for determining maintenance interval are also proposed.

A Study on RAMS Parameters in the Procurement Requirement for Rolling Stock (철도차량의 구매 요구사항에 포함되는 RAMS 특성값에 관한 연구)

  • As a railway is receiving attention as an environment-friendly transportation mode, many high speed, inter-city and urban railway are constructed and remodeled in the world. With this trend, railway RAMS was included in the international standard IEC 62278 in 2002. RAMS activity in domestic market is also increased with this international trend. However, IEC 62278 does not describe the methodology of substantial contents like how reliability target is set although it can be used as an overall guideline when RAMS requirements are included in the purchase specification. That is because RAMS requirements should be set with the specific railway condition. It is required to fully understand the meaning of railway RAMS parameters and apply those correspond to the specific railway system and environment condition especially when a quantitative RAMS requirement is set. In this study, the meaning and characteristics of RAMS parameters applicable to the development of quantitative RAMS requirement of rolling stock is described. And the basic concept of RAMS and the definition of failure that IEC 62278 describes is modified and suggested in order to make more suitable to the development of quantitative RAMS requirement.

  • Currently, it has been a fashion to include RAMS of rolling stock in the order for purchasing the rolling stock. However, it's only to suggest a qualitative value or an ideal target without giving or demonstrating actual RAMS target, with only demonstrating passive RAMS by the data provided by the manufacturer. In the case of KTX project of 100 cars of KTX-II contracted in June 2006, their target has been suggested from the previous RAMS application standard and it aimed to achieve the reliability level of equivalent high speed rolling stock. Afterward, as actual KTX-II RAMS Plan and RAMS Demonstration Plan has been prepared and approved, it has been the first problem to secure the reliability and safety in order to introduce the new high speed rolling stock(KTX-II) successfully and we actually tried to apply overseas RAMS standard, KTX samples, electric railcar MTRC and rolling stock samples. This Report was dealt world trends of Railway RAMS standard, KTX-II RAMS Specifications, the present condition of KTX-II RAMS performance and development a way of KTX-II RAMS, We hope the "KTX-II RAMS Application Standard for Safety of Passenger Transportation Service" is served as an opportunity for the basic research for establishing and demonstrating RAMS target of components or parts composing the rolling stock system.

  • RAMS is becoming increasingly important in the decision making process for the rolling stock projects in order to improve competitiveness by reducing system life cycle cost while improving reliability, availability, maintainability and safety. In order to apply and manage RAMS of rolling stock systems effectively in the operator perspective, it is essential to integrate and control RAMS systematically from the early stage of rolling stock projects. RAMS management is to implement a RAMS system into rolling stock projects in terms of a rolling stock operator, which presents the strategic directions of RAMS policy, objectives, requirements, control, analysis, measurement and improvement throughout life cycle of rolling stock projects. This article presents a new framework of RAMS management that provides an effective and efficient way for managing RAMS in rolling stock systems in the railway industry.

  • As RAMS becomes an international trend in the railroad industry, it is also generalized in the domestic railroad industry. This research is performed to present a criterion of the RAMS plan for the next generation high speed rolling stock. The criterion is developed based on IEC62278(EN50126), the international standard for railroad RAMS and CLC/TR 50126-2, 3, the guide to the application of IEC 62278. It is necessary for the export of the rolling stock. The criterion describes the RAMS targets and the contents to be included in the RAMS plan to meet the RAMS targets. Through developing the RAMS plan, we can identify RAMS activities and documents to be done in the total life cycle which includes design, manufacture and operation. It will help to accomplish synthetically the system targets of the next generation high speed rolling stock.

  • Rolling stock RAMS is a field of engineering which integrates reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS) characteristics into an inherent product design property through rolling stock system engineering process. It is implemented to achieve operational objectives successfully, and recently the RAMS has become a rapidly growing engineering discipline because it has a great potential to ensure safety and improve cost effectiveness. However, the Korean rolling stock industry has not yet implemented RAMS management in the rolling stock engineering process, despite the issue having been addressed since the introduction of the KTX. Thus, this paper discusses the processes, methods and techniques for RAMS assessment in three parts. Firstly, it outlines a process of the overall RAMS performance assessment for achieving technical RAMS design criteria. Secondly, it discusses a process for assessing the operational RAM and allocating the RAM. This paper also proposes a model for assessing safety-based risk management, which includes five analytic techniques for identifying the causes and consequences of a system failure. Finally, a case example is provided for the risk assessment of the pneumatic braking device.

  • This study is described for the RAMS activities of performed to 2008.12 ~ 2010.10 KTX CTC Project. RAMS activities follow EN50126, EN50128, EN50129. CENELEC standards(EN50126, EN50128, EN50129) to the System Development Life-cycle are defined. This study is RAMS activities of life-cycle that can be found to satisfy SIL2.   • Putting the urban maglev train to practical use requires the systematic management to predict and solve the problems in advance, which are expected to occur in the operation of the vehicle, at each lifecycle step such as concept design, manufacture, commissioning and maintenance. In this article, we review the trend of international specification for railway RAMS and suggest the RAMS program from the viewpoint of system engineering. In addition, RAMS requirements for the advance into the foreign market are presented through the investigation of RAMS specifications for Metro transit in various principal countries. Lastly, we suggest the direction of RAMS research on maglev train for putting it to use by analysing the trend of RAMS researches in Japanese railway.

Analysis of Flow Characteristic and Suspended Soild Transport at Nakdong River using RAMS and SMS Models (RAMS 및 SMS 모형을 이용한 낙동강 본류 구간의 흐름분석 및 부유사 거동 모의)

  • 본 연구에서는 남구미대교, 왜관낙동강대교가 통과하는 낙동강 본류의 구미, 칠곡구간 9.23km에 대하여 설계홍수량과 평수량에 대한 흐름분석과 공사시 발생가능한 부유사 농도를 산정하여 부유사의 거동에 대해 2차원 유한요소모형인 RAMS와 SMS 모형을 이용하여 모의하였다. 흐름모의를 실시한 결과, RAMS 및 SMS 모형에 의해 산정된 수위 및 유속 결과가 기본계획보고서에서 제시된 수위 및 유속과 유사하게 산정되고 있었으며, 교량 주변의 흐름분포도 RAMS 및 SMS모형의 결과가 유사하게 모의 되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 공사강도에 따른 발생가능한 부유사 농도를 산정하고 공사가 이루어질 위치 2지점을 가정하여 각각 RAMS 및 SMS모형을 이용하여 부유사 거동을 모의하였다. RAMS 및 SMS 모형에 의한 모의결과, 두 모형 모두 각 지점 하류 100m 부근의 부유사농도가 30~40, 15~20ppm의 범위로 부유사 농도를 보이고 있었다.
