ECO Driving Patterns Derived from the Analysis of the Problems of the Current Driving Pattern of Electric Multiple Unit in ATO System (현행 ATO 시스템 전동차 운행패턴의 문제점 분석을 통한 ECO 운행패턴 도출방안 연구)

  • This study focuses on finding ways to derive train's optimal ECO driving pattern, which can improve the ride quality and reduce driving energy consumption with keeping the time interval between the stations. As research method, we compared difference of currently operating train's ATO and MCS driving patterns, and concentrated upon the things need to consider in simulation in order to improve the existing pattern of ATO driving pattern's issues with securing the train operation safety. Determining driving pattern minimizing energy consumption by controlling powering within speed limit and controlling switching to coasting at appropriate point considering the track conditions for each section, and determining braking control starting time considering ride comfort and precise stopping is considered to be most important.

  • This paper presents design procedure of the magnetic bearings used for high-speed electric machines and flywheel energy storage systems. Magnetic bearing can be categorized by inner-rotor type and outer-rotor type according to the position of the rotary disc. These two types are applicable based on application environments such as application space, required attraction force, and controllability. Magnetic bearing is generally designed based on the ratio (geometrical coefficient or geometrical efficiency) of pole width to rotor journal radius but proper ratio is only decided by the analysis. This is the difficulty of the magnetic bearing design. In this paper, proper design technology of the inner-rotor type and outer-rotor-type eight pole magnetic bearings is introduced and compared with the FEM analysis results, which verifies the proposed design procedure is suitable to be applied to the design of the magnetic bearings for the industrial applications and flywheel energy storage system.

Analysis of Dynamic Equilibrium Configuration of Speed Governor (조속기의 동적 평형위치 해석)

  • This paper proposes a method to obtain the dynamic equilibrium configuration of a constrained mechanical system by using multibody dynamic analysis. Dynamic equilibrium equations with independent coordinates are derived from the time-dependent constraint equations and dynamic equations of a multibody system. The Newton-Raphson method is used to find numerical solutions for nonlinear algebraic equations that are composed of the dynamic equilibrium and constraint equations. The proposed method is applied to obtain the dynamic equilibrium configuration of a speed governor, and the results are verified on the basis of the results from conventional dynamic analysis. Furthermore, vertical displacements at equilibrium configuration, which varied with the rotational velocity of the speed governor, are calculated, and design parameter analysis of the equilibrium configuration is presented.

  • In this paper, 110kW high output density, high efficiency Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor which can be applied on tram’s traction system is introduced, along with its output and loss characteristics. The motor model is 2pole 18slot model and its size has been reduced through the high speed for high output density. Especially, structure and retainer sleeve structure is applied to its structure, which is also appropriate for high speed rotation. This kind of structure has eddy current loss problem on the surface of rotor, which must be reduced for high output density design. This study has designed the most optimized additional design parameter in order to improve the output characteristics and efficiency of previous produced 2pole 18 slot 110kW motor model and how the width of airgap affects from the loss perspective is mainly analyzed. Finally, the analysis on the extent of the efficiency improvement effect compared to the previous model has performed through electromagnetic FEM analysis. The influence of airgap flux density distribution has also been thoroughly examined.

  • The LRT(light rail transit) system, which has medium transport capacity between subway and bus is an advanced transportation system. It has many benefits like chap construction and operational cost down through driverless and flexible route planning. The rubber tired AGT(K-AGT) is a kind of LRT, which has rubber wheels and side guides. The side guides has many advantages, but brings vibration and noise problems from the friction between the guide rail and the wheels. This is the major source for the of passengers' discomfort. The purpose of this paper is to analyze dynamic characteries and running stability of the rubber tired AGT localization bogie if the AGT's speed is increased from 70 km/h to 80 km/h. The current design parameters of bogie suspension, as it is designed, was examined to satisfy the comfort index of the railway vehicle in performance test.

Fatigue Life Evaluation of Motor Block Bracket Units for KTX-Sancheon Trains (KTX-산천 열차용 모터 감속기 고정대의 피로 수명 평가)

  • In this study, fatigue life of the motor block bracket units for KTX-Sancheon trains was assessed. Design evaluation for railway structures was performed based on the UIC 566 regulation, and test and evaluation of fatigue life in welded parts was performed in accordance with standard ERRI B 12/RP17 and ERRI B 12/RP60. The actual vehicle dynamic stress testing was executed in KTX-Sancheon service line with the service operating speed. The dynamic stress was measured with commercial data acquisition system (MGC plus). The cumulative damage was evaluated by applying standard BS 7608 - Class F and cycle counting was used rain-flow counting method. As a result, the motor block bracket units for KTX-Sancheon trains was designed to fit the regulation and the safety of fatigue life for 30 years, assuming that KTX-Sancheon trains travels 600,000km annually, were confirmed under current operating conditions.

  • To analyze the effect of the track structure on the running performance of the railway vehicle, we studied on the vibration and ride characteristics of the high speed train. As results, vibration and ride level of high speed train on the concrete bed track is more reduced than on the ballast bed track. Peak-peak value of carbody vibration on the concrete bed track at 300km/h is half of the peak-peak value of carbody vibration on the ballast bed track. Ride level on the concrete bed track at 300km/h is same level as that on the ballast bed track at 250km/h. Thus, Vibration and ride performance of the high speed train on the concrete bed track is greatly improved compared with that on the ballast bed track.

  • Friction stir welding using aluminum alloys has been widely applied for transportation vehicles because of the light specific weight, which can be used to obtain sound joint and high mechanical properties. This study shows the effects of rotation speed, welding speed, welding load, and tool shape on defect formation with extruded AA6005, which is used for railway vehicle structures of non-uniform thickness welded by friction stir welding using load control systems. Optical microscopy observations and liquid penetrant testing of each FSW joint were carried out in order to observe defect formation. Two kinds of defects, that of probe wear and that of lack of penetration in the bottom of the welded zone, were observed. In the case of using a taper shaped tool, the defect free zone is very narrow, within 100 kgf; however, in case of using a cylindrical shape tool, the defect free zone is wider.

  • This paper presents an parallel type Linear Induction Motor with ununiform airgap for a shallow-depth underground train with 100‰ grade and 15 m curvature. This parallel type LIM has enough gradability but has inherently ununiform airgap between center and end parts. Consequently, performance when the train passes curved section should be considered with transient analysis. Moreover, general parallel operation, 1C2M which is usually used for train operation, deteriorates LIM performance because of different line velocity between inner and outer LIMs. Transient analysis has many problems such as huge model, lots of meshes, very long calculation time, truncation error and so on. This paper has presented a novel technique using equivalent linear rotating model in order to solve these problems and has analyzed parallel type LIM by using the proposed technique. Finally, LIM performance according to independent operating control has been investigated.

An Experimental Study on the Applicability of a Multiplex Heat Pump System in the Kindergarten (유치원 건물에서 다중 히트펌프 시스템의 적용에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • We experimented with the energy saving effect of applying a multiplex heat pump system and suggests a dissemination plan for new and existing educational facilities. The development and dissemination of a new system could reduce energy consumption by up to 57%, and help solve environmental issues. Experimental performance evaluated in the kindergarten to analyze the energy saving effect of the cooling and heating system. The average daily COP of the cooling and heating period in the field test was 3.79. Our results showed that the annual energy consumption was reduced, and proved that the multiplex heat pump system is effective in reducing energy consumption.
