Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Extracts of Traditional Medicinal Plants Mixtures 1 and 2 (약용식물 복합 추출물 TMP1과 TMP2의 항산화능과 염증 억제 효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate traditional medicinal plants (TMP) 1 and 2, two different multi-herbal mixtures consisting of 24 herbs. Regarding the contents of flavonoid compounds, the ethanol extract (EE) of TMP2 yielded the highest content of flavonoid compounds (40.981 mg/g), followed by EE of TMP1 (28.23 mg/g), hot water extract of TMP2 (WE, 10.046 mg/g), and WE of TMP1 (6.59 mg/g). Antioxidant activities of EE and WE of TMP1 and TMP2 were measured based on DPPH radical scavenging activity. At 1 mg/ml, the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity was shown in EE of TMP2 (96%), followed by EE of TMP1 (94%). Nitric oxide (NO) production by RAW264.7 macrophage cells stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was reduced to 82, 77, 86, and 47% by addition of $500\;{\mu}g/ml$ of EE and WE of TMP1 and TMP2, respectively. These results were not due to the cytotoxicity of the extracts. NO synthesis was increased by 2.3, 3.6, 3.0, and 1.8 fold by addition of $500\;{\mu}g/ml$ of EE and WE of TMP1 and TMP2, respectively. These results show that medicinal plants play a significant role in antioxidative activity and activation of the immune system in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases, and different mixtures of the medicinal plants showed different effects.

Quality Characteristics of White Bread with Tenebrio molitor Linne Powder (동결건조 갈색거저리 분말 첨가 식빵의 품질 특성)

  • This study aimed to investigate quality characteristics of white bread with Tenebrio molitor L. powder (TMP). Because of the proximate composition analysis of the white bread with TMP, the content of protein and crude fat increased slightly in proportion to brown dough, and ash was highest in white breads with 7% added TMP. The bread volume decreased as TMP content increased. The control bread lightness was highest at 78.3, and was negatively correlated with the TMP content. The degree of redness increased with the TMP concentration. The total free amino acid contents were in the following order: white bread with 7% TMP > white bread with 5% TMP > white bread with 3% TMP. With respect to the texture, white bread springiness and cohesiveness with TMP decreased by storage period. The chewiness and brittleness of white breads with TMP decreased significantly with higher concentrations. With extended storage, the bread with TMP added showed lower springiness and cohesiveness; while bread with a lower TMP percentage maintained better chewiness and brittleness. The sensory taste preference was highest for white bread with 3% TMP. Residual appetite scores showed a lower taste preference as TMP content increased and was lowest for white bread with 3% TMP.

Alkaline Sizing of TMP with AKD (AKD에 의한 TMP의 중성사이징)

  • Alkaline sizing characteristics of TMP (thermomechanical pulp) handsheets with AKD (alkylketene dimer) were studied under various conditions. The sizing degree of TMP handsheet was much lower than that of chemical pulp. Especially, the sized TMP handsheet dried at $20^{\circ}C$ showed no sizing features, but sizing degree of TMP handsheet was clearly Increased by heat treatment at $105^{\circ}C$. The sizing effect of TMP was also improved by addition of $CaCO_3$, but it was not affected by pH. Therefore, sizing effect of TMP with AKD can be improved to some extent by controlling stock condition and heat treatment of handsheet.

  • Alkaline Sizing behavior and mechanism of handsheets, which were prepared from thermomechanical pulp (TMP) with alkylketene dimer (AKD), were studied in terms of the conditions of the handsheet-making. AKD content in the TMP handsheets was increased with increasing of AKD addition level and the addition of a polyamideamine-epichlorohydrin resin (PAE) clearly enhanced AKD retention as well as the resultant sizing performance of TMP handsheets. Although drying of the AKD sized TMP webs at $20^{\circ}C$ led to no or quite low sizing level, but TMP handsheets sized with AKD had higher sizing degrees with increasing of the temperature of heat treatment. Scanning electron microscopic observations of the AKD-sized TMP handsheets showed that AKD emulsion particles were present on pulp fiber surfaces independently without coagulation in the TMP handsheets dried at $20^{\circ}C$. Heat treatment of the AKD-sized handsheets resulted in disappearance of the AKD emulsion particles because of their melting and spreading. The addition of calcium carbonate filler to the TMP suspensions did not influence on AKD content in the TMP handsheets. Nevertheless, their sizing degrees clearly increased by the addition of $CaCO_3$filler. Probably, AKD molecules adsorbed on the $CaCO_3$filler particles contribute to the enhancement of sizing performance. Thus, AKD can give sizing features effectively to the TMP handsheets, when they are made under suitable conditions.

  • In this study transmembrane pressure (TMP) was measured with respect to operational time in order to estimate fouling of the submerged membrane in the membrane bioreactor(MBR). The microfiltration flat sheet module which has $0.02m^2$ of effective area and $0.15{\mu}m$ nominal pore size was submerged in the activated sludge solution of MLSS 5,000 mg/L. The permeate experiments were carried out simultaneously to compare TMP of the run/stop (R/S) with that of the sinusoidal flux continuous operation (SFCO). TMP for SFCO mode was up to 93% lower than that of R/S mode, and the effect of TMP drop reduced as permeate flux increased. Also, TMP of the SCFO mode was maintained below 40% of the limited operating TMP 55 kPa until the permeate operational time extended to longer than 5 times for the case as the coagulant $FeCl_3$ was dosed into the activated sludge solution with 500 mg/L concentration.

  • In this study the basic data were settled down to establish theory of membrane module and apparatus for measuring suspended solid per particle size. The theory and technique were different with the conventional weight method and light scattering method. For this purpose silica, dextran, kaolin, and PEG (polyethylene glycol) suspended solutions were filtrated through glass fiber membranes GF/C and GF/A on membrane module for measuring TMP (Trans-membrane pressure) changes using digital pressure gages. And the related equation between modified solution concentration and TMP change slope was derived from the TMP change experiments, and then suspended solid concentration of samples could be expected by the equation.

Effect of Molar Ratios of DES on Lignin Contents and Handsheets Properties of Thermomechanical Pulp (TMP의 LB 공융용매 처리 시 젖산/베타인 몰 비율이 리그닌 함량 및 수초지 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of deep eutectic solvent (DES) treatment on properties of TMP fibers and handsheets. DES was prepared by mixing of lactic acid and betaine (L and B), and the molar ratio of these two components mixtures was controlled to 2:1 (L:B=2:1) and 5:1 (L:B=5:1). As results, lignin was partly extracted from the TMP fibers. Especially, the delignification of TMP samples was promoted according to the increase of the molar ratio of lactic acid. Except for tear index, both tensile index and burst index of handsheets were increased when higher molar ratio of lactic acid was mixed for DES preparation. However, the LB DES treatment of TMP fibers didn't give any effect on the optical properties of TMP handsheets. The plausibility of TMP fiber was to be enhanced by LB DES treatment.

보조펌프(backing pump)의 배기용량에 따른 터보분자펌프(TMP) 배기속도 측정에 관한 연구

  • 터보분자펌프(turbo-molecular pump: TMP)는 고진공펌프 중의 하나로, 반도체/디스플레이 등 첨단 공정에서 진공 환경을 조성하는 핵심장비이다. 터보분자펌프(TMP)의 특성평가는 세계 여러 나라의 표준제정기구에서 제정한 국제규격에 그 기반을 두어, 한국표준과학연구원 진공기술 센터에서는 터보분자펌프(TMP) 특성평가시스템을 자체 설계/제작하여 그 신뢰성을 확인하기 위해 개발품 및 상용품 평가에 주력하고 있다. 터보분자펌프(TMP)는 보조펌프(backing pump)의 지원을 받으므로 보조펌프(backing pump) 용량에 따른 터보분자펌프(TMP)의 배기속도를 측정하고자 한다. 국제규격에서 제시하는 보조펌프 (backing pump)의 용량이 일정이상 작을 경우, 터보분자펌프(TMP)의 배기속도 및 압축비에 대해 감소함을 제시한다. 이 영향은 전체 압력 범위에서 보조펌프(backing pump)의 배기속도가 일정 용량 이상이면 터보분자펌프(TMP)의 배기속도에 영향이 없음을 제시하며, 이에 본 연구에서는 국제규격에서 제시하는 보조펌프(backing pump) 용량에 대해 서로 다른 조건에 맞추어 터보분자 펌프(TMP)의 배기속도에 미치는 영향을 연구하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 100m3/h, 10m3/h 의 서로 다른 배기속도를 가진 보조펌프(backing pump)를 선정하여 분자량이 다른 가스(N2, He, Ar 등)에 대한 압축비의 변화와 배기속도 측정에 관해 상관 관계를 제시하며, 100m3/h, 10m3/h 의 서로 다른 배기속도를 가진 보조펌프(backing pump)에 따른 터보분자펌프(TMP)의 배기속도 및 운전성능을 제시하고자 한다.

Prophylactic effects of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole in Toxoplasma-infected mice (Toxoplasma 감염 마우스에 있어서 trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole의 투여 효과)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the prophylactic effects of trimethoprim- sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMZ) In mice experimentally infected with virulent RH strain and avirulent Beverley strain of T dognii. The mice infected with $1{\times}10^5$ tachyzoltes were used In the measurement of mean survival days, and the mice infected with 10 cysts were used In the tltratlons of specific antibodies and enumeration of brawn cysts. Mean survival days of mice were significantly increased In mice treated with TMP-SMZ as compared with splramycln-treated and untreated control group. Mean survival days and survival rates of mice were Increased according to the Increment of dosages, and TMP-SMZ protected 100% of mice after fifteen daily dose of 24 mg/mouse or more admlnlsted orally. Toxoplasma-specific serum IgG and IgM antibody titers were slgnlflcantly lower in mice treated with TMP-SMZ than those of splramycln-treated and untreated control group. Toxoplosma cysts were not found In mice treated with TMP-SMZ at a dose of 24 mg/mouse or more per day but the group of splramycin treatment and untreated controls were found in the brain from 20 days after Infection. The present results revealed that TMP-SMZ can be used as a prophylactic agent against murine toxoplasmosls after Intraperitoneally challenges with the virulent or avlrulent strain of T. gondii.

Studies on the Coprecipitates of Two Ingredients with PVP (이성분계 공침물에 관한 연구)

  • In order to increase the dissolution rate on the mixture of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim (SMX-TMP), their coprecipitates with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were studied. Coprecipitates prepared with various ratios of SMX and TMP were examined such as hygroscopicity, apparent solubility, apparent partition coefficient and the dissolution behavior of SMX-TMP's coprecipitates and their physical mixtures. The hygroscopicity of coprecipitates were less than that of physical mixtures. The apparent solubility and dissolution rate of SMX-TMP's coprecipitates were found to be greatly increased. The dissolution rates of SMX and TMP in the coprecipitates were decreased when the ratio of two ingredients to PVP was smaller, and the dissolution rate of SMX was increased when the ratio of SMX to TMP was larger.
