The aim of this study was to identify the influence of volunteer activities and sense of community on nursing professionalism for nursing students. A convenience sampling method of 160 students in a nursing department of university in D city was used in June 2019. Data were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. The nursing professionalism score was above the middle level and differed according to the volunteer motivation and activity continuity significantly. Satisfaction with volunteer activities had a significant positive correlation with a sense of community (r=.47, p<.001), and nursing professionalism had a significant positive correlation with the satisfaction with volunteer activities (r=.51, p<.001). The factors affecting nursing professionalism were a sense of community (p<.001) and satisfaction with volunteer activities (p<.001); this model could explain 37.9% (F=20.38, p<.001). Therefore, nursing students are encouraged to participate voluntarily in a range of activities linked to their field, nurture a sense of community, and develop nursing education programs that help build pride as a nurse and establish nursing professionalism.

  • In-depth interview research and qualitative methodology were used to find changes in the experiences of family volunteer activities through the use of the Health Family Support Center. Ultimately, 143 items as sub-concepts, 42 items as sub-categories, and 10 items as subjects were found. I will also suggest alternative basic and primary data. First, using 10 subjects, the following points were evaluated in detail. I looked at what kind of changes in the volunteer activities these subjects experienced after working at the Health Family Support Center, and what the specific underlying reasons were for the changes in their family volunteer experience. These included 'community solidarity', 'family community', 'leisure and culture for the family', 'communication', 'personal relations', 'coping skills', 'growth', 'sympathy', 'positive thinking', 'future plans'. Second, families experienced a feeling of belonging as community members and the family realized the importance of their life, learned communication methods and coping skills. Third, families came to have new opportunities to grow as humans and learned a feeling of sympathy for others. Fourth, families found new paradigms to think positively about their daily life and to establish future plans. We will need more effort to empower family experiences of family volunteer activities that use the Health Family Support Center as well as supporting its staff. The following specific factors were the main mediating factors for using such a facility: family volunteer education, family volunteer service agency consulting, program planning, and managing family volunteers and other services.

  • It is essential that the operational system of volunteer fire brigade (VFB) playing a important role in the local disaster prevention should be effectively improved to live in safety by protecting life and property of inhabitants from a disaster. The results of this research showed that most of volunteering members of fire brigade was highly satisfied with their works and thus they voluntarily did volunteer activities. It was also found that the development of the professional education program and training course about disaster prevention should be required because members of the volunteer fire brigade lacked expertise about the disaster prevention. Moreover, in order to activate and expand VFB, the establishment of the fundamental ideology about the activities of VFB, the introduction of effective selection examination system for the VFB and the creation of department fully responsible for the management of the VFBs should be necessary as well.

  • Korean Volunteer Fire Departments are the representative disaster-related civilian organizations which are based on "Firefighting Framework Act Article 37"and ordinance for complementing the lack of fire-fighting personnel and volunteer and they play a part as community safety keepers. They are operated by the National funding, but cannot be defined as the organization in governmental sources completely or pure volunteer organization in terms of its founding purpose and activities. In these special characteristics, some Volunteer Fire Departments play an important role in Civilian Volunteer Disaster Prevention by being managed effectively, but the others do not. There can be many cause-analyses about this difference. They aren't profit-making organizations and are groups which have no compulsion. So it is important that who the leader is, and what type of leadership he has. By solving this bias by considering these characteristics, in this study we make them perform the center role of community safety network through analyzing the existing status and problems of volunteer fire department education and customized training program reengineering to meet class-specific and regional level.
