The aim of this study is to develop a model of the field-experience learning program of environmental education utilizing environmental facilities. In this study a kind of such a basic model was developed and presented. The developed basic model of the field-experience learning was applied to the case utilizing landfill facilities. A specific application of the landfill program to the Bangcheon-ri landfill, in Daegu, was also presented with related teaching materials developed in this studies. • In this study a comparative analysis is conducted to evaluate TLSF(Teaching and Learning for a Sustainable Future) program, which is a module type environmental education program developed by UNESCO, and the Korean environmental education curriculum. The Korean environmental curriculum is mainly focused on conceptualization and the matters of fact. As a result, students may not be able to acquire contextualized and synthesized views on the environmental problems. The Korean environmental curriculum hardly supplies ample variety in the methods of teaching, learning and assessment, or the theories characteristic of the environmental education. Thus it would not make a useful material for teachers to reorganize various materials to be applied in class. TLSF program would be useful for a teacher to use in the environment education field because it supplies not only many various activities and samples for constructing a proper program but also the theoretical base and examples for education and assessment strategy. Finally, TLSF also offers the theoretical base of the environment education for the assessment, and it makes the best use of feedback from the environment educational field for improving its own quality. In conclusion, this study can be a meaningful preview for those who are involved in the process of developing of a curriculum, which consists of steps like formulating theories for developing a curriculum, organizing the curriculum contents, activating and evaluating a curriculum.

  • In the sustainable waste management, the necessity of environmental education which improves acquisition of the knowledge, attitudes and values for the environment is being emphasized to help students make environmentally desirable decision and promote responsible environmental behavior. However, the environmental education in high schools, as a whole, would be susceptible to many problems caused by tile educational administration focusing only on the college entrance examination. Therefore, this study modifies and applies a program using four teaching/learning methods (Investigation study, Internet-based learning, Field work, Issue analysis study) which deals with the sustainable waste management as the learning subject for the environmental education, and tries to find its effects on the students' environmental sensitivity and environmental conservation behavior in high schools. The main results of this study are summarized as fellows. First, the waste management program had little influence on the environmental sensitivity of experimental groups, while it had positive effect on their improvement of the environmental conservation behavior. Second, there were little meaningful effect on general environmental conservation behavior, but there were some significant results to environmental conservation behavior related to the sustainable waste management. In addition, positive results were found in ecomanagement and consumerism, whereas there were no meaningful results about in persuasion and legal action, which were sub-domains of the waste management program. Among the waste management programs, the school waste investigation study had the most positive effect on the students' recognition and solution of environmental problems as well as improvement of environmental conservation behavior. The easiest one of the four teaching/learning methods was the Internet-based learning, while the most difficult one of them was the issue analysis study. Consequently, in order to achieve the goals of the environmental education in the academic field, there has to be selected the most suitable one of the teaching/learning methods and to be applied to the class, according to the detailed objectives and loaming contents for the environmental education.

The students were inquired about how these activities influence the environmental literacy of elementary students. The result of this study were as follows; First, the experimental group applied experience activities to the developed program to contribute to the improvement of environmental literacy. This was then compared to the control group to which theoretical classes were conducted. Second, Jeju Oreum Experience learning program has evenly influenced the elements of environmental literacy divided by the four goal levels of environmental education. As a result of the research, the Natural Experience Activities on the basis of natural circumstance is considered to affect the elementary students' environmental literacy in positive, effective manner. UP has much merit; for example, high school students can develop their road for future by the UP procedure which is related intimately with their choice of road for future. Environmental Science is the subject which is stable for UP's goals because of interated nature of environmental science. These goals and the increase of social demand made us proceed this study. So this study had developed a standard curriculum for UP in environmental science and designed in-service program for lecturers. This study analyzed the current situations and problems of the present environmental education in the university liberal arts and high school environmental science curriculum. As a result, most of environmental educations have been conducted mainly by an approach of natural science. • Environmental problem and eco-crisis don't mean pollution itself any more, although general people have believed that environmental problems can be resolves by removing pollution. The mos important is environmental problems are linked with social structure which individualism, rationalism is extremely prevailed in the market oriented capitalism society, so public value is ignored especially. In the point of environmental education, this is very important because environmental education is not completed through schooling process, such s class learning, discussion. observation etc, but in the our practical life itself. This means that environmental education can be done by changing of lifestyle anywhere we live, and anytime. But any places governed our social life are polluted by efficiency pursuiting individualism in market oriented capitalism society. So environmental education can't hold the water in this system, in the aspect that we can't stimulate feelings of the student and general people, getting to public resource value and harmony with nature by throwing individual mind away. It is big problem. In this field, I have thought the unique space and social structure which can be used as environmental education place is small-planning community, such as Kibbutz in Israel, educational community Finhorn in Scotland, harmony community Yamagicism Village in Japan and DURE in Korea etc. For the research of this educational possibility in these small community, I visited and investigated immediately, and confirmed. In this thesis, I insist that the training process and practical life experience in this community themselves are good environmental education. So, in case of YAMAGICISM in Japan and FINDHORN in Scotland, DONGSASUP program in Korea, I introduce these small community environmental- education program.

  • As exchanges and cooperations among Korea, Japan and China about environmental issues become active, exchange programs about social environmental education increases. Therefore, in this study, the present state of the social environmental educations in Korea, Japan and China is analyzed and compared. The conclusions are as following. First, the social environmental education in Korea is mainly executed by NGOs about environment, religion and gender. In the social environmental education in Korea, education for sensibility in which all the people can participate such as field investigation, camping and travel holds the majority. However, the education about social-political knowledge which deals with environmental policy and economy is not sufficient. Second, in the social environmental education in Japan, the education of environmental education methods and knowledge about environmental issues, in which citizens participate such as workshop and forum holds the majority. Third, the social environmental education in China is mainly executed by CEEC under SEPA. Education toward teenagers for fostering environment-friendly attitude is mostly active, and lectures are in general. However, education for the specific knowledge of environmental issues is not enough. The social environmental education is very significant as lifelong education for environment friendly welfare society since civil decision-making leads directly the social behavior. Therefore, efforts must be made to develop the social environmental education of each countries by means of active exchange and energetic support of the social environmental education program and autonomous exchange of NGOs for the social environmental education.

  • This attempts to find out training system of environment education teacher in Korea. The results are summarized as follows. The primary and secondary school have focused on environment education and the environment course was designated as a subject, but only 12% of the 2741 middle school chose the environment subject in 1998. The environment education course is not popular among students. The environment education is an interdisciplinary subject, which is composed of natural science, social studies, earth science, and medical science, that is why the subject is so unsystematic and complicated that appropriate teaching methods and contents for school classes are not able to be developed.
