  • This paper presents a novel design technique and characteristic analysis of Magnet for dual air-gap axial-flux type permanent-magnet synchronous generator. The process of magnet design is applied to the motor design and steady state analysis considering output voltage waveforms and magnetic flux waveforms. Design and construction of an axial-flux permanent-magnet generator with power output at 60 [Hz], 300[r/min] is introduced. Finite-element (FE) method is applied to analyze magnet shape characteristics. The results of FE analysis show generator is feasible for use with dual air-gap axial-flux permanent- magnet synchronous generator.

  • This study dealt with the design process of the 78 kW permanent magnet synchronous generator for engines. After the calculation of the basic dimensions through a theoretical method in the process of initial model design, FEA (finite-element analysis) and a d,q-axis equivalent circuit were used to identify the generator characteristics depending on the number of poles. With the use of the space harmonic analysis method, the back-EMF (electromotive force) and THD were checked, and then the number of slots was determined. In addition, the most optimized generator dimensions were determined through a sizing optimization technique. Based on this, the optimum model with enhanced efficiency, material costs, and temperature characteristics was derived, and the availability of the design method was confirmed through a comparative analysis of the initial and optimum models.

  • Generally, the structure without the stator core Axial Field Permanent Magnet (AFPM) generator was simple and there was nearly no cogging toque. And because it had the wide driving rate area, it had been being mainly used in the small wind power generation system. However, AFPM generator with non-slotted stator can't generate high voltage at low wind speed due to long air-gap. It is the reason of output efficiency drop. Therefore, in this paper, the AFPM synchronous generator with internal rotor and dual slotted stators for the small wind turbine is studied, and deal with a cogging torque minimization through the determination of optimum pole-arc ratio.

  • The output voltage of a synchronous generator is regulated constantly by field current control of excitation system. Synchronous generator exciter has two type, first one is Drop control type by thyristor and second one is exciter current control type through power output by PWM control. Control method of the second one prevails, but when the power devices have a breakdown, output voltage of the generator rises rapidly. This exciter must have a protection circuit and system is complicated, so reliability is poor Excitation control type which is drop control type control only 10% of the power, so it can be improved precision. When a trouble come to the controller, output voltage of a generator don't rise excessively and the voltage rise about 10%, so it has a excellent reliability. This paper prove stability of the digital AVR.

  • This paper suggests the slot wedge shape for reducing the cogging torque of a direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator for a bike. To consider easy coil winding, we applied a structure of open slot for the permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). Because the cogging torque of PWSG with the open slot is very large, we are designed the appropriate specifications of the PMSG by selected the appropriate material of slot wedge and various slot wedge shapes. The prototype model is selected by design theory for reducing cogging torque and maximizing efficiency of PMSG. And the detailed structure design of the model was designed by the loading distribution method. The PMSG models were analyzed by finite element method. Finally, we have suggested appropriate material of slot wedges and its shape which has benefit to further reducing cogging torque and preventing decreasing of the generating power.

  • The preventive structure of field lead connector's V-notch on synchronous generator has been developed. The preventive structure of field lead, installed in the generator, prevent from V notch of field lead connector in rotor on daily start and stop (on-line). This development of study was performed at the Seoinchon combined cycle power plant on gas turbine generator. This preventive structure of field lead will be prevent from V-notch of field lead on synchronous generator's field.

  • This paper proposes a new invention of the integrated generator converter system for the HVDC transmission. And it analyses the general formula for eddy currents in the rotor iron using the double Fourier series in order to trace the smallest eddy current losses of the system which connects a new designed synchronous generator windings or conventional synchronous generator windings with the v Graetz bridges.

  • This paper presents the characteristic analysis of the 40-kVA high speed synchronous generator considering the field current. The generator consist of the rotor with the short-circuited field coils connected armature coils of exciter and the stator with three-phase winding. To analyze the characteristics of the generator, the direct finite element method is applied.

  • This paper presents a successful stand-alone pico-hydro generation system using a high-efficiency interior permanent-magnet (IPM) synchronous generator. A 1-kW 4-pole V-type IPM generator with low voltage regulation is used for laboratory test in stand-alone hydro energy conversion system. It has been found from experimental results that the constant output voltage is supplied stably by the proposed system under wide speed range.

  • 일정 출력을 얻기 위해 동기발전기 계자 여자는 AVR에 의해 제어된다. 대부분의 선박용 동기발전기 AVR은 사이리스터 위상제어 방식을 사용한다. 하지만 이 방식은 제어 주기가 MOSFET이나 IGBT로 구성된 컨버터에 비해 느리므로 속응 제어를 구현하는데 어려움이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 선박용 동기발전기에 MOSFET을 사용한 PMG형 디지털 AVR을 구현하였다. PMG형 디지털 AVR 회로 구성은 간단하고 단락 시 발전기 출력전압이 영으로 되어 AVR이 동작하지 못하므로 출력전류를 여자회로로 흐르도록 하는 CBC가 요구된다. 본 논문에서 연구된 여자 시스템은 실제 선박용 발전기를 대신하여 10[kVA]급 프로토타입의 실험을 통하여 시스템의 타당성을 검증하였다.
