  • A physicochemical process called Ultra Rapid Coagulation(URC) can dramatically remove organics, metals, and phosphates in wastewater by adding weighted coagulation additive(WCA) and recycling sludge into the coagulation basin to increase the growth rate and adsorption ability of floc. Also this process can improve floc settling rate than conventional coagulation process and reduce the pollutants loaded into the receiving water for securing water source. It was evaluated that WCA and sludge added have effects on the removal efficiency and estimated the possibilities of reusing the effluent from this process.

  • Ultra Rapid Coagulation (URC) can dramatically remove pollutants loaded in wastewater by adding weighted coagulation additives (WCA) and recycling sludge into the coagulation basin to increase settling velocity and surface adsorption ability of floc. Also settling chamber together with lamella plates offers the high rate settling velocity, which can economically treat a considerable amount of pollutants like as combined sewage overflow (CSO) during the heavy rainfall and reduce the pollutants load into the receiving water for securing water source. It was estimated optimal configuration of settling chamber by using fluent model and the possibilities of reusing the sludge generated in this system.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate EPS and SMP variation of sludge and effluent in nitrification and denitrification process with zeolite addition, a possible reduction of effluent DOC by URC(Ultra Rapid Coagulation) process. As a biological wastewater treatment result, EPS formation of both aeration and anoxic sludges are not affect by SRT variation. However, EPS concentration of sludges is higher in aeration tank than in anoxic tank by 6~8 mg EPS/ g VSS. Linear relationship between SMP to DOC indicates that SMP of bulk solution contributes to most of the biological treatment effluent DOC. DOC and turbidity removal efficiency was more improved with URC process than in a conventional coagulation. For pretreatment of UF filtration DOC removal was advanced by URC process than only UF filtration.

  • A physicochemical process called ultra rapid coagulation(URC) was applied as a pilot scale to recover eutrophicated lake water at Inkyung Lake located on-campus in Inha university. The URC was uniquely designed to completely remove the presence of phosphorus up to 95%, which in turn leading to lessen the level of eutrophication of lake. For a pilot test of period, the lake was restored showing Carlson's Trophic State Index(TSI) of mesotrophic state which accounts for the reduction of total phosphorus and chlorophyll-a down to approximately 55 from 70 and 73, respectively. A residual presence of aluminum and additional coagulants in the effluent was tested for their potential effects on Photobacterium phosphoreum. The effect concentration ($EC_{50}$-15 min) observed in the effluent revealed that the bioactivity of Photobacterium phosphoreum was not influenced by the residual presence of coagulants. After the pilot test of period, the lake was consequently restored as a mesotrophic state in obtaining the second grade of lake water quality. The URC may be further applied for restoration of greater scale of lake in eutrophication.

  • This study was conducted to provide a basic information for recovery plan of Seung-Gi Stream which is a major stream of Incheon metropolitan area. Source and characteristics of pollutants were analyzed and studied. Samples were taken 10 rounds in 5 sections in Seung-Gi stream. Annual pollutants loads and sectional characteristics of pollutants loads were investigated regarding flow rate, pH, DO, SS, $BOD_5$, $COD_{Cr}$, T-P, TKN and concentrations of Zn, Cd, Cu, Cr atoms which enter into Seung-Gi stream during rainy and dry season respectively. As one came close to the Nam-Dong Industrial Complex, sectional discharge loads were heavy and water quality was failed to meet the standard by "Environmental Standard of River Quality". As a result, heavy load of pollutants in Seung-Gi stream was considered to influence negatively the sea water quality of Incheon. Solution plans to solve problems are as follows. First, circulation of treated water at Seung-Gi WWTP(Wastewater Treatment Plant) and retreated water by URC(ultra rapid coagulation) process treat with that. Second, sewage and wastewater is gathered, make it disposed. After then, we circulate treated water. If solution plans be applied, we can predict water quality. Then we could grope for how make to recovery role of Seung-Gi stream as stream.
