사용자 인터페이스 디자인에 있어서 사용성 개선지수 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Usability Improvement Index in User Interface Design)

  • 디지털 기술의 발전과 제품의 정보화로 인해 최근 사용자 인터페이스 디자인의 중요성이 더욱 더 증대되고 있다. 따라서 사용자 인터페이스의 개선이 어느정도 효과가 있는지를 체계적이고 합리적인 방법으로 측정하고 관리하는 것이 필요하다. 본 연구는 사용자 인터페이스 디자인에 있어서 사용성이 얼마나 개선되었는지를 나타내는 측정 가능한 '사용성 개선지수'를 개발하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 먼저 기존의 사용성 평가방법과 선행연구에 대한 분석을 통해 사용성 개선지수 개발을 위한 사용성 측정 및 평가방법에 대한 틀을 마련하였다. 다음으로는 측정 가능한 사용성의 특성을 분류, 정의하고 이를 바탕으로 사용성 개선지수 산출 프로세스를 제안하였다. 현재의 사용성 수준을 측정하고 문제점을 분석하여 사용성을 개선한 대안을 제시하고, 개선된 사용성 수준을 측정하여 개선전과 개선 후의 사용성 수준을 비교할 수 있게 하였다. 개발된 사용성 개선지수는 실제 제품의 사용성평가와 개선작업을 사례연구로 진행하여 그 적용 가능성을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 목표에 의한 UI디자인을 가능하게 하고 사용성을 체계적이고 합리적인 방법으로 개선하고 관리하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

A Study on the Improvement of Korean Journal Citation Index Service

  • The KJC and KCI services operated by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) need to refer to the global citation index database to set the service direction that researchers want and develop new functions. Therefore, in this study, the usability of Korea's KJC and KCI web databases was evaluated. In addition, FGI verification was performed for a group of experts on KJC and KCI improvement measures derived by academic information experts. The evaluation committee consisted of the researcher group, the society related group, the publisher (academic information distribution organization) group, and the policy-making organization group. A total of 16 experts performed usability evaluation and service improvement proposals for KJC and KCI services. As a result of usability evaluation of KJC and KCI web database using SUS measurement tool, KJC service was evaluated as 73.44, and KCI service was evaluated as good as 64.38. KJC improvement proposals were evaluated positively with 4 points or more for all improvement items, and KCI improvement proposals were positively evaluated with 3.5 points or more for all improvement items. Overall, KJC and KCI error improvements were evaluated with a score of 4 or more, showing strong affirmations. In the future, it is hoped that the improvement proposals and improvements proposed in this study will be applied to the development of KJC and KCI services, so that more quality services will be used by domestic researchers.

Usability Evaluation and Improvements of Mobile Travel Apps

  • The popularization of smartphones allows people to instantly get the information that they want, through mobile apps, including financial services, movies and public transportation reservations, games and shopping. Furthermore, leisure activities through overseas travel are increasing due to the improvement of the living standards of people. These increases in overseas travel and the use of mobile apps lead to the increased use of mobile travel apps when booking tour packages. Although there are many studies on the usability assessment and user interface improvement for mobile apps, studies on the usability assessment for mobile travel apps are limited. We tested the usability for mobile travel apps to present some suggestions for improvements so that anyone can purchase travel packages easily and simply. We selected the top three mobile travel apps on Rankey.com that have different UIs. The heuristic method was used to evaluate usability. We present a better UI to allow users to use the app functions more easily by analyzing user interaction, ease of learning, readability, efficiency, and satisfaction for the entire use.

Usability Test for Motion Tracking Gait Assistive Walker

  • Background: This study evaluates the usability of the Motion-Tracking Gait Assistive Walker (MTGAW) designed for elderly individuals and those with disabilities, identifying areas for improvement through interviews with physical and occupational therapists. Design: A survey study involves the usability test for MTGAW. Methods: Usability evaluations were conducted with 37 physical therapists and occupational therapists. The process included explanation, product usage, satisfaction surveys, and interviews. A satisfaction survey covering 19 items across safety, maneuverability, usability, and management areas was administered. Individual interviews identified areas for improvement. Results: Overall, high satisfaction was reported across the four areas, but interviews highlighted the need for improvements, such as addressing discomfort due to slow speed and enhancing safety measures to prevent rear-end falls. Adjusting the walker's height and width to suit the user's physique was also suggested. Conclusion: MTGAW enhances walking support and hand movement freedom but needs refinement in speed control, fall prevention, and customization based on the user physique. Future efforts should focus on developing an improved MTGAW, considering recommendations from physical therapy experts, and conducting studies to analyze its clinical effectiveness for commercialization.

모바일 클라우드 컴퓨팅에 최적화된 모바일 웹 사용성 개선 (Improvement of Mobile Web Usability for Mobile Cloud Computing)

  • 최근 클라우드 컴퓨팅이 빠르게 확산되면서 기존의 인터넷 환경 뿐 아니라 모바일 클라우드 컴퓨팅에 관한 관심이 급증하고 있다. 스마트폰을 비롯한 모바일 단말기는 하드웨어를 비롯하여 애플리케이션, 서비스까지 모든 면에서 빠르게 변화하고 있다. 하지만 웹표준 준수 및 모바일 웹에 대한 이해가 부족한 국내 모바일 인터넷 환경에서는 인터넷 접속이 원활하지 않고, 국내 웹사이트의 대부분이 다양한 기능과 화려한 디자인에 주력하여 개발하고 있기 때문에 스마트폰이나 태블릿 PC에서 접속시 사용성 및 접근성을 떨어뜨리는 요인이 된다. 이에 본 연구는 모바일 클라우드 환경에서 사용성과 접근성을 고려한 웹 인터페이스를 제안하고 이를 사용성 평가를 통하여 검증하고자 한다. 우리는 이미 선행 연구를 통하여 모바일 단말기 환경에 최적화된 메인페이지 인터페이스를 제안하고 그 사용성이 개선되었음을 입증하였으나, 이는 웹사이트 전체에 대한 사용성을 보증하지 못한다. 본 연구는 선행 연구를 통하여 제시하였던 웹표준의 준수와 그를 통한 웹 인터페이스 방식이 해당 웹사이트 전체에 걸쳐 사용성을 개선함을 보인다. 우리는 클라우드 컴퓨팅에 최적화된 웹사이트를 선정하여 웹사이트 전체에 대한 사용성 평가를 실시함으로써 실제로 그 접근성 및 사용성이 개선되었음을 검증한다. 또한, 이러한 개선을 통하여 기업이나 개인 모바일 웹사이트 개발자들에게 유저 인터페이스(UI) 디자인 적용을 위한 지침을 제공한다.

교육용 웹사이트의 교사 사용성 분석 사례 연구 - 에듀넷을 중심으로 - (A Case Study of Teachers' Usability Test on the Using Educational Website)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the improvement of the educational web service by using of usability test. For this purpose, a case study was performed with three teachers. They solved three problems, which were linked to the usability of educational web site, with think-aloud. All their actions in the screen and their verbalizations were recorded as computer files. Recoded data were analyzed with the task-performance time analysis, behavior code analysis, and problem behavior graph analysis. From the result of analysis, five improvement strategies were proposed for the development of EDUNET which is an educational information service system and a national teaching & learning center.

A Study on Usability Improvement of Mobile Healthcare Services

  • The developments in mobile technology and the increase in the production of smartphones have led to the growth of the mobile healthcare market. Moreover, the number of mobile healthcare apps is on the rise, and users are benefiting from using healthcare, exercise tracking, and body monitoring apps, as well as they have been searching for health information through mobile health apps. This paper evaluated the usability of a symptom checker application that provides information on diseases, treatment methods, and related hospitals through self-diagnosis of symptoms. Symptom checkers are currently being developed, and are widely used overseas. This paper sought to evaluate the usability of a symptom checker app, and suggested ways to introduce enhancements.

국내 중앙행정기관 웹사이트의 접근성과 사용성 평가 및 개선방안 연구 (A study on the evaluation and improvement of web accessibility and usability of Korea government department websites)

  • This research is carried out being divided into a first evaluation and second evaluation. A Study is carried out on first, the accessibility compliance level of Korea government department websites and second, whether the site which complies well with web accessibility increases web usability for users through a web usability evaluation. The evaluation result, web sites which comply well with the web accessibility guidelines were observed to increase web usability for both normal and disabled people but web sites which do not comply well were observed to lower the web usability making the web sites unavailable or inconvenient to use. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a very close interrelationship between web accessibility and usability and thus compliance with web accessibility is not an option but a mandatory requirement.

  • 교육컨텐츠의 양적 팽창은 필연적으로 질적 개선에 대한 관심을 불러일으킨다. 양적으로 풍부한 컨텐츠가 존재하는 상황에서는 학습자들은 같은 인터넷 정보라도 질 높은 사이트를 찾고자 한 것이고, 개발자나 정보제공자는 이러한 수요에 부응하는 WBI를 제공하여야만 생존이 가능할 것이기 때문이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 많은 사이트들은 아직도 사용자의 입장에서 보다는 개발자 자신의 취향이나 시장논리에 의해서 컨텐츠를 제공하는 경우가 많다. 본 연구는 컨텐츠 개발시 질적 완성도가 높은 WBI를 개발하기 위한 방법의 하나로 Usability Test를 제안하고 그 유용성을 시험하기 위해 수행되었다. 이 과정에서 Usability Test를 위한 한 사례로서 <지층과 화석>이라는 컨텐트가 제작되었으며 그 제작 사례를 통해 WBI 완성도 향상을 위한 Usability Test 의 실천방안들이 논의 되었다.

조종적성 검사/연구 장비 운용 Console의 인간공학적 개선 (Ergonomic Improvement of Operation Console for Pilot Aptitude Research Equipment)

  • Pilot Aptitude Research Equipment (PARE) is a simulator developed to measure or research pilot aptitude and train for student pilots. Design of an ergonomic PARE operation console is required to operate the equipment effectively. This study carried out five steps : (S1) operator questionnaire survey, (S2) anthropometric design formula development, (S3) usability evaluation, (S4) improvement design, and (S5) validation considering both Physical User Interface (PUI) and Graphic User Interface (GUI) of PARE operation console. The operator questionnaire surveyed needs for each PUI and GUI part of the console from two PARE actual operators. In terms of PUI, the anthropometric design formula was developed by using design variables, body dimensions, target population characteristics, and reference posture related to the PARE console. In terms of GUI, the usability evaluation was conducted by three usability testing experts with a 7-point scale (1 : very low, 4 : neutral, 7 : very high) on GUI of the PARE operation console by seven usability criteria. The improved PARE operation console was designed to reflect the optimal values of design variables calculated from design formula, the results from usability testing, and the operator's needs. The improvement effect was observed by 20 people who had experience with the PARE operation console. As a result of the validation, monitor visibility and cockpit visibility for the improved PUI design and visibility and efficiency for the improved GUI design were significantly increased by more than 90% respectively. The improved design of the PARE operation console in this study can contribute to enhance operation performance of the PARE.
