A study of socio-economic influence of railroad -focusing on some examples-

철도의 사회경제적 영향력에 관한 연구 - 몇 가지 사례를 중심으로 -

In this paper, I illustrate the some examples of socio-economic influence of railroad in Korea. The Korean railroad has been running for 109 years now since it started operation in 1899. The opening of railroad in Korea has been affecting influence in our society not only transportation but also infrastructure building and the formation of new cities which they were built along the rail network like Daejeon. I have come up with some examples, which railroad has affected the in our society. For example, the changes of transport route from road to railroad, emerging the new cities, industries and culture. This paper contributes to look over the various function of railroad in Korea. Moreover it will be compared with Japan's railroad influence in his country. It gives us a peculiarity and universality in railroad's function including colonial policy

우리나라는 1899년 9월18일 경인선철도가 개통된 이래 일본은 청일전쟁의 수행을 통해 대륙으로의 물자수송의 필요성과 한반도의 지배를 위해 간선철도를 건설하기 시작하였다. 경부선은 1900년에 건설이 시작되어 1905년에 개통하게 되었다. 호남선은 1914년에 완공되었다. 우리나라사회는 철도의 개통으로 큰 변화를 겪었는데 새로운 노선을 통해 국토공간구조의 변화가 생겼으며 새로운 도시의 형성과 산업과 문화의 변화 등 새로운 현상이 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 향후 우리나라 철도부설과 그 사회경제적 영향력에 대한 연구의 기초연구로서 몇 가지 사례를 통하여 철도가 우리사회에 미친 영향력을 분석해 보고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 도로에서 철도로 바뀐 우리나라의 교통망과 신흥도시인 대전의 변화, 그리고 수행여행으로 철도를 많이 이용한 사실을 경주역과 불국사 역의 사례를 통해 살펴보았다. 향후 우리나라에서 철도가 가져온 변화 연구를 통해 철도의 다양한 기능성에 대한 파악이 가능할 것이며, 향후 일본과의 비교 연구를 통해 식민지 시대의 철도의 특성을 구체적으로 파악할 수 있을 것으로 사료 된다.
