현대는 에너지 절약 및 고효율의 시대입니다. 철도차량의 경우에도 예외는 아니어서 일찍부터 에너지 절약형 기기를 연구 개발중이며 또한 기존제작 운행중인 차량의 경우에도 에너지 절약을 위한 여러 가지 방법의 모색중에 있습니다. 이에 차량의 운행에 있어서의 운행속도 요구치와 차량에 장착된 전동기에 공급되는 전류의 상관 관계에 대해 살펴 보았다.
