Abstract

The formalized poly(vinyl alcohol)films were uniaxially drawn in water and the following conclusions are drawn on the basis of the experimental results. 1. From the results of toughness test to evaluate the workability of samples, the 7.08 mole % formalized film was the toughest among all samples. 2. The equilibrium swelling time of formalized poly(vinyl alcohol)films in water was 10 min. when it was measured at the drawing condition in water. 3. On the basis of molecular orientation measured, the orientation of crystalline region made a great contribution to the total orientation whereas that of amorphous region showed less then 0.1. 4. Wigh increasing formalization, and the elasticity were increased slightly but the toughness was decreased greatly.
