Abstract

Spunlaced nonwovens for medical use were finished for water repellency and improvement of handle and abrasion resistance with reactive silicones utilizing foam finishing technology(FFT) and conventional padding application techniques. The foam generator and applicator of pilot scale for nonwoven fabrics finishing were specially designed and prepared. The foam size and the size distribution were suitable for foam finishing of nonwoven fabrics. Amino-functional silicone showed better handle than conventional reactive silicone(MHPS). The foam finishing treatment improved handle and abrasion resistance properties of spunlaced nonwoven fabrics compared with the same fabrics treated by the conventional padding process.
