Wet-fnuess Improvement of Rhodsmine Dye by the Introduction of Chlorohydrin Group

Abstract

Rhodamine dyes show brilliant reddish color, when applied to natural textile fibers, the most pronounced effect being obtained on silk. But it exhibits such poor wet-fnoess properties that many researchers have been tying to improve them. In this study, Rhodamine 8 was chosen for the dye modification. The tertiary amino group present in Rhodamine 8 was emformed into the secondary amino group and then reacted with epichlorohydrin. The modified Rhodamine which has chlorohydrin-reacting group exhibited improved dyeing and wet-fnoess properties. In additional when applied to silk fabric, it showed almost the same color as Surhodamine 8 which has been most popular among Rhodmine dyes for silk.
