Abstract

Direct printing on polyester car upholster fabrics is a novel technology. With a suitable choice of liquid, non-ionic, sublimation-resistant disperse dyes with high light fastness-the Terasil X dyes-the sublimation-resistant, highly effective UV absorber Cibafast P. plus awareness of and allowance for the special requirements of textiles in cars, polyester car upholstery fabrics can be successfully direct printed. We are convinced that direct printing will focus car textile coloration along new lines. It gives designers fresh scope, increases flexibility in the production process, and enables decisions on the items to be produced to be taken at a very late point in time. Chrysler's chief designer, writing in the American newspaper Automotive and Transport $Interior^2$, had the following to say on this topic : 'The (auto) industry will have access to whatever the mind, eye and computer can create. Design sill not be limited in any way - shape, form or color'.
