대학의 리눅스 교육 방안 연구

A Study on Strategies of educating Linux in University

리눅스는 핀란드 헬싱키 대학 리누스 토발즈(Linus Torvalds)에 의해 개발되었으며 마이크로소프트사의 윈도우와 경쟁자로 부각될 만큼 많은 발전을 해왔다. 현재 리눅스 사용 현황을 보면, IBM은 리눅스 탑재를 기본으로 하고 있으며 영국 정부는 데스크탑 운영체제로 리눅스 채택을 검토하고 있다. 튀니지는 국가 운영체제로 리눅스 운영체제를 채택하려는 움직임이 있고, 워크스테이션과 서버 시장의 강자인 썬(Sun Microsystems)도 리눅스 운영체제를 이용한 개발에 박차를 가하고 있다. 국내의 경우, 2002년에는 정부 차원에서 '리눅스 지원센터'가 설립되고 리눅스 활성화를 위해 '공개소프트웨어진흥법'이 제정되는 등 리눅스 지원정책이 범 정부적으로 추진된다. 이러한 이유로 리눅스 운영체제는 사회적으로나 국가적인 차원으로까지 사용성이 증대되는 시점이다. 따라서 전문인력 배출의 산실인 대학에서 리눅스 교육의 활성화 방안에 대한 논의가 공론화되어야 한다. 본 논문은 이러한 사회적 요구사항을 충족시키기 위해서 리눅스를 대학교육에 접목하고자 할 때 고려할 사항, 문제점 분석, 해결방안을 제시하는데 목적이 있다.

Linux was developed by Linus Torvalds at University of Helsinkyi, Finland. Today Linux becomes to compete with windows operation of Microsoft. and is adopted worldwide on IBM products. The British government is viewing Linux as a desktop operating system. In Tunisia, Linux is under consideration as the governmental operating system. Even Sun Microsystems, the powerful supplier in workstation and sewer market, is working on developing ways in using Linux. is now getting further attentions on governmental level in several countries. The growing interests in adopting Linux in computer operating systems are not on a personal preference level any more. A number of companies and organizations, even some governmental administrations start to see its potential capabilities and are looking for ways for its applications. The necessity of teaching Linux in university is, therefore, imminent and should be discussed in course development without delay. The purpose of this paper is showing the things to be considered, problem analysis and some solution as grafting Linux in university education.
