A Study on the theory of creation of Lee Mun Yul - Focused on the character of『 Love song of Lethe』-

The purpose of this paper is to find out the theory of creation ofLee Mun Yul so that readers could evaluate the textbook accurately.And also this paper made a special study on the analysis ofcharacter in Lee Mun Yul ' work ;『 love song of Lethe』As a method of analysis of character's desire, mimetic desire wasadopted. according to the theory of mimetic desire. A imitation is anaspect of behaviour that not only affects learning but also desire, andimitated desire is a cause of conflictBy Rene Girard, mediation is external when the mediator of thedesire is socially beyond the reach of the subject or, for example, afictional character, as in the case of Amadis de Gaula and DonQuixote. The hero lives a kind of folly that nonetheless remainsoptimistic. Mediation is internal when the mediator is at the samelevel as the subject. The mediator then transforms into a rival andan obstacle to the acquisition of the object, whose value increases asthe rivalry grows. This is the universe of the novels of Stendhal,Flaubert, Proust and Dostoevsky, which are particularly studied withthis theoryreaders used to regard Lee Hee-won as a main character. butmain character would be changed by the theory of mimetic desire ofRene Girard. As a result of this paper, Min Seung-Woo can be a main character. And past analysis of character about『 love song ofLethe』, it was first-person narration, but it can be changed tofirst-person-observer narration.Min Seung-Woo has a correct understanding corrupted society sohe wants true values among indirected desires. he denied mimeticdesire in every desire even in love and art. Finally Min Seung-Wooleft Lee Hee-Won. So『 love song of Lethe』is not a popularromance novel but it can be artist’s novel that deals with the youthand development of an individual who become a painter, musician, orpoet. In this textbook. Because Min Seung-Woo showed hisbackground, desires of love and his anguish and spirit about art.

본 논문은 이문열의 소설『레테의 연가』의 인물분석을 통하여 작품에 나타난 욕망의 주체와 예술가로서의 진정한 가치추구의 과정을 연구하였다. 그 결과 작가의 창작 의도는 작중인물들이 욕망하는 세계의 타락상을 비판하고 진정한 예술가로서의 인간형을 형상화하고자 했음을 밝혔다. 작가는 사회를 타락했다고 보았으며 작중 인물 역시 타락한 인물들로 설정했다. 『레테의 연가』는 일인칭 화자의 일기형식으로 이루어져있어서 여주인공의 솔직한 고백체로 되었다. 때문에 이 소설이 일인칭 주인공시점으로 평가받아왔다. 그런데 일인칭주인공인 이희원은 관찰자인 민승우 보다 사건의 핵심에 위치하지 못했고 서사를 이끌어가는 주체는 단연 민승우에 의해 좌우되고 있으며 당대의 가치관과 예술적인 사회적 분위기조차도 민승우에 의해 비판되고 있다. 때문에 이 작품은 이희원이라는 인물을 일인칭 주인공이 아니라 일인칭 관찰자로 볼 수 있다. 그리고 민승우가 깨달은 진정성은 그가 예술가이기 때문에 예술의 본질적 가치관과 당대 예술계의 타락상을 깨닫게 되면서 매개된 욕망을 인식했다고 할 수 있다. 그리고 그러한 진정한 욕망은 사회적 전반의 가치추구에서 애정의 문제로 옮아가게 된다. 결국 민승우가 이 작품의 주인공이고 욕망의 주체로서 서사를 이끌어가고 있으며 작품의 결말에 이르러 진정한 가치를 인식하게 되는 것이다. 진정한 욕망이 아닌, 매개된 욕망을 인식하고 타락한 삶의 선택을 거부하는 근본적인 자각은 예술가로서의 예술에 대한 진실한 자세로부터 왔다고 할 것이다. 결론적으로『레테의 연가』는 단순한 연애소설이 아닌 예술가의 삶과 예술을 소재로 하는 예술가소설의 범주에 드는 것이다.
