A Study on Structural Effects of Building-augmented Wind Turbine on Building

Abstract

Green building can be realized by energy conservation, environmentally friendly design, and active application of new and renewable energy. Wind power has technical and economic advantages and especially can use excellent wind source at a high place. Building-augmented wind turbine, installed at outer wall or rooftop of high-rise building, generates electrical power using excellent wind source. In this study, a method to investigate structural effects of building-augmented wind turbine on building is presented. Dynamic analysis for horizontal-axis upwind wind turbines is carried out to estimate additional load due to the wind turbines, and structural behaviors of an example building by changing location of the wind turbines are analytically studied. Then natural frequencies of the wind turbines and example building are calculated to check the resonance problem.
