김유정의 작품은 김유정의 민중에 대한 완벽한 사랑의 표현이다. 철저히 민중의 시선으로 그려진 입담 좋은 판소리계 사설식 문체, 계급이 생성되기 이전의 원초적 천진한 인간형, 일본의 제국주의의 수탈에도 끝까지 살아남으려는 민중들의 강인한 생명력, 따뜻한 가족을 향한 회귀식 서사구조, 이 모든 것은 민중에 대한 철저한 분석과 그에 대한 실제의 체험이 없으면, 구현하기 힘든 문학적 성취이다. 이러한 문학적 성취 뒤에는 김유정의 민중에 대한 사랑과 책임감이 매개되어 있다. 김유정은 민중을 향하는 자신의 욕망과 그들에게서 메시아적인 생명력을 보았다고 할 수 있다. 민중에 대한 사랑과 책임감으로 문학적 성취를 이루어 낸 것이다. 김유정의 수필에서 홍길동을 거론하고 상호보조론과 자본론을 중시한 것을 보면 김유정은 그 당시의 민중을 꿰뚫을 수 있는 사랑, 즉 타자를 향한 사랑을 위대한 사랑으로 보고 있다고 할 수 있다. 염인증(厭人증)에서 오는 고독에서 벗어나기 위해 자신의 존재 바깥에 있는 타자인 민중에의 공감을 찾고, 그 실존으로서 근원적인 생명에 대한 교감을 글쓰기를 통해서 향유하겠다는 것이다. 김유정이 자신을 떠나서 존재하는 것은 김유정의 감각을 통해서 대상화한 존재, 즉 민중이며 그 민중은 근원적인 낯섬을 가지지 않은 대상이다. 김유정의 작품은 민중에 대한 타자윤리학의 메커니즘을 통해 드러나는 서사구조를 보여준다. 그 서사구조는 민중들의 언어, 판소리계 사설, 그들의 원초적 천진성과 강인한 생명력, 가족을 향한 사랑, 회귀식 서사구조로 드러난다.
