An Analysis of Current Outreach Service for the Disabled in Korean Public Library

국내 공공도서관의 장애인 아웃리치 서비스 제공현황 조사분석 연구

Abstract

The disabled suffer great difficulties from public library access and data use due to reasons such as disabilities, mobility limitations, and lack of alternative materials and services. To overcome this, through outreach services for the disabled, public libraries should meet the multiple needs of people with disabilities. As such, the purpose of this study is to derive suitable strengthening plans of outreach services based on the size of the targeted user and disability type by analyzing outreach service operation practices in libraries in Korea and overseas and by researching and analyzing the status and awareness of outreach services for the disabled in Korean public libraries.

장애인은 각종 장애, 이동성 제약, 대체자료 및 서비스의 부족 등 다양한 이유로 인하여 공공도서관 접근 및 자료이용에 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이를 해소하려면 공공도서관은 장애인을 위한 아웃리치 서비스(outreach service)를 제공하여 그들의 다양한 정보요구를 충족시켜야 한다. 이에 본 연구는 국내외 공공도서관의 아웃리치 서비스 사례를 분석하여 시사점을 도출하고, 국내 공공도서관을 대상으로 서비스 현황과 인식도를 조사 분석하여 장애인의 규모 및 유형별 아웃리치 서비스 강화방안을 제언하고자 한다.
