Abstract

In a way of encouraging energy efficient and sustainable buildings, many countries provide regulations and informations on building envelope design in various levels including codes and standards, building certification systems and design guidelines. Recently, the Korea government developed and improved several codes and guidelines on window design, but they are practically concentrated on energy performance. Although window has a complicated impact on building energy use and occupants comfort, thermal and visual comfort has not concerned sufficiently with multiple design factors. The purpose of this paper is to suggest some considerations and strategies to improve of domestic standard and guideline in terms of window design for occupants comfort. Codes and standards, certification systems, and guidelines in foreign countries were investigated and analyzed. Based on this result, we suggested some considerations to improve the daylighting and ventilation criteria influencing on window design for thermal/visual comfort in Korean Building Energy Conservation Code(BECC).
