Abstract

In the design of reinforced concrete (RC) beams, the minimum ratio of flexural reinforcement is required to prevent RC member's brittle failure. Of the many influencing factors on the Minimum Reinforcement Ratio (M.R.R), the compressive strength of concrete is one of the main factors contributing to M.R.R Specially, the coarse aggregate type determine compressive strength of concrete. Accordingly, the purpose of this experimental study is to evaluate flexural behavior of high strength RC beams using Recycle Coarse Aggregate (RCA) with the M.R.R specified in the current KBC code. To evaluate the M.R.R, nine RC beam specimens fixed with ${\rho}=0.00395$ were substituted with 0%, 30%, 50% of RCA and were used with 100%, 75%, 50% of M.R.R. The high strength concrete with a 40MPa design compressive strength is used. The test results compared with the theoretical results have a sufficient margin of safety. Although theoretical results compared with the current code calculation results have not enough safety margin when it is M.R.R of 75% and 50%. However, theoretical results compared with the code calculation results have enough safety margin at the M.R.R of 100%.
