An Analysis of the Effectiveness of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Project

Abstract

This research analyze a fear to crime in three specific time that before, right after and one year after of the CPTED project. According to the analysis, there are several noticeable results as follows. First of all, the satisfaction ratio of local residents for the CPTED project is 90% on average in two target regions. However, some results showed that differences in some fields. Although overall satisfaction to the CPTED programs has increased significantly for one year after end of the project, residents' satisfaction to several secure facilities and wall painting has been decreased compared to right after the project. The fear of crime decreased one year after end of the project. In conclusion, even though CPTED project gives positive impact to local community, it is clear that continuous maintenance and management system are crucial parts in the CPTED project to make the sustainable effectiveness of crime prevention.
