현대소설에 나타난 ‘양공주’ 모티프의 다문화적 사유와 타자성

A Study on the Multicultural Thinking and Otherness of

본 연구의 목적은 1950-60년대 ‘양공주’ 모티프를 통해 다문화적 사유와 타자성을 분석함으로써 1990년대 이후 한국사회에 대두하기 시작한 다문화적 담론에 내재된 타자에 대한 윤리의식의 새로운 가능성을 모색하고자 한다. 1950년대 전쟁 때문에 다문화적 체험을 겪어야 했던 ‘양공주’의 모티프를 통해 다음과 같은 다문화적 사유를 추출하였다. 기지촌이 ‘전쟁’에 의해 이주한 미군과 혼혈아, 소외된 한국인이 공생해야 하는 비극적 공간임에도 불구하고 거기를 지켜내는 ‘양공주’에 의해 생명력을 소생시키는 웃음으로 상생하는 카니발 공간으로 생성되고 있음을 보여준다. 더 나아가 타 문화를 서로 인정하고 서로에게 힘을 북돋아 줌으로써 자율적인 주체, 공동체적 주체로 변화해 나가는 과정에서 다문화적 사유가 드러난다. 국적을 초월하여 서로의 아픔을 보듬어 안는 양공주의 초국적 사랑에는 양공주가 복수문화의 공존을 인정하며 그 공존이 유발하는 타자에 대한 낭만적 소통을 통해 긍정성을 보여준다. 여기에는 탈국경적 요소들 즉 상이한 사회․ 정치 ․경제․ 문화 ․역사적 특수성이 결합된 복잡한 관계성을 사랑으로 환원하여 초국적 사랑 내러티브를 보여준다. 현재와 미래를 꿈꾸며 서로의 자아를 발전해가는 과정을 담고 있다. 쾌락생산을 목적으로 하는 양공주가 도구나 상품으로서의 성적 대상이 아니라는 타자에 대한 자각과 아울러 사랑의 주체로서의 위상을 회복하게 된다. 이는 타문화에 대한 다원적인 사유에 이른다. 이를 통해 양공주들은 전지구화와 다문화공간의 상생을 통하여 보통의 가정처럼 행복한 결혼생활을 꿈꾸며 이를 실현하기 위해 노력하고 있다는 점을 드러낸다. 또한 ‘양공주’의 다문화‘모자(母子)가족’이라는 전도된 메카니즘에는 전통 가부장제를 벗어나 혼혈자식을 향한 어머니의 ‘보살핌’이 사회와의 연대로, ‘우리’의 ‘보살핌’이라는 다원적 사유까지 나아가고 있다.

The purposes of this study were to analyze multicultural thinking andotherness with the motif of "Yanggongjus"(foreigners' whores) in the1950s and 1960s and thus explore the new possibilities of ethics forothers inherent in the multicultural discourse that started to emerge inthe South Korean society in the 1990s.The motif of "Yanggongjus," who were subjected to multiculturalexperiences due to the war in the 1950s, resulted in the followingmulticultural thinking: it showed that the military camp towns, whichlived on the fringes of society, realized the carnival space andmulticultural community of others and evolved further into themulticultural community of understanding and accepting the culture ofothers. Here, it revealed the multicultural thinking of becomingautonomous and community-based subjects by recognizing differentcultures and encouraging each other. The transnational love ofYanggongjus, who embraced each other's pain beyond nationality,derived from their recognition of coexistence among multiple culturesand their positive perception of others to induce the coexistence. TheYanggongjus dreamed of happy married life like ordinary couples andtried to realize their dream through globalization and coexistence ofmulticultural spaces. The multicultural thinking was also found in theircare based on their material love through the propagated mechanism of "mother-headed multicultural families" of "Yanggongjus."
