Abstract

An investigation was conducted from May 11 to October 12, 2023, focusing on the seasonal occurrence patterns and differences of four attractants (Ipsenol, Ipsedienol, Alpha-pinene, and Monochamol) for Scolytinae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in three locations along the north-south border in northern Gangwon province, specifically West-Cheorwon, Yeongseo-Yanggu, and Yeongdong-Goseong. The study revealed a total of 7,743 individuals belonging to 45 species in 26 genera. Among these species, 15 were found to commonly appear in all survey areas. Notably, two species, Xyleborinus saxesenii (Ratzeburg) and Cnestus mutilatus (Blandford), were identified as dominant across all survey areas, while four species, Xylosandrus germanus (Blandford), Ambrosiodmus rubricollis (Eichhoff), Xyleborus muticus Blandford, and Xyleborinus saxesenii (Ratzeburg), were investigated throughout the entire survey period from May to October. In the Yanggu region, which comprises a mixed forest with the most diverse plant species regionally, a total of 2,840 individuals belonging to 36 species were identified, indicating greater diversity and population compared to the other two survey sites. Regarding the attractants, there was no significant difference in the number of species identified at each survey site. However, in terms of population, Monochamol was found to have the highest number of individuals in Cheorwon, Ipsedienol in Yanggu, and Ipsenol in Goseong, respectively.
