Abstract

Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the latest domestic clinical research trends on pharmacopuncture for neck pain, provide directions for future research, and contribute to the advancement of pharmacopuncture utilization studies. Methods This study is a scoping review, conducted based on five steps suggested by Arksey and O'Malley. After developing 5 research questions, relevant studies were searched using 5 domestic databases. As a result, 13 studies were finally selected, and data analysis was performed based on these studies. Results Among the 13 selected studies, 12 studies were case reports, and 1 study was randomized controlled trial. Most studies used neck disability index as an evaluation method, while pain levels were measured using visual analogue scale and numerical rating scale. Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture was the most frequently used treatment, offering the advantage of fewer clinical side effects compared to Essential bee venom pharmacopuncture. Conclusions Clinical studies of the pharmacopuncture for neck pain have been consistently published over the past decade and shown its effectiveness in improving patients' pain before and after treatment. Future studies should focus on high-quality randomized controlled trials with rigorous study designs, ensuring thorough mention of institutional review board approval and adherence to ethical standards.
