Abstract

Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the immediate pain-relieving effects and patient satisfaction of Korean medicine (KM) treatments provided at an on-site medical clinic during the National Shooting Competition, and to explore their safety and clinical applicability. Methods This retrospective survey analysis included 111 participants (athletes, referees, coaches, etc.) who received KM treatments at the on-site medical clinic during the 2025 National Shooting Competitions and completed the post-treatment survey. Pain intensity was measured using the numeric rating scale (NRS) immediately before and after each treatment session, and satisfaction was assessed immediately after treatment using a 5-point Likert scale. Results The highest satisfaction treatments were acupuncture (including electroacupuncture) (n=99) and physical therapy (n=80). Mean pain NRS scores significantly decreased post-treatment (mean change: 2.3±1.9 points), exceeding the minimal clinically important difference threshold. Satisfaction was high across all domains (overall: 5.0±0.1), with 98.2% rating overall care as 5/5. No serious adverse events were reported. Conclusions KM treatments, particularly acupuncture (including electro-acupuncture) and physical therapy, provided rapid pain relief and high patient satisfaction for participants at a national shooting Championships. Further prospective studies with larger sample sizes are warranted to confirm these findings and explore their long-term effects.
