Abstract

The individual permanent magnets of a typical magnetic gear are fan-shaped. When the shape is fan-shaped, the path length of the closed magnetic circuit formed from the high-speed side to the low-speed side is the shortest, and therefore the magnetic torque value is also the largest in that case. In this paper, when the repetitive shape of the magnetic gear is not fan-shaped, we analyze the magnetic force change characteristics and eddy current loss or solid loss due to pole switching. Using a finite element commercial tool, we analyze that these losses can be reduced by reducing the rapid magnetic changes of the magnet and modulator by configuring the fan shape to be inclined in the direction of rotation. Additionally, it is discussed through harmonic analysis that there is no significant change in the torque density generated.
