Abstract

The green peach aphid (Myzus persicae Sulzer, Hemiptera: Aphididae) is a significant agricultural pest, inflicting economic loss on vegetable crops, fruit trees, and ornamental plants. To elucidate the interactions between M. persicae and its endosymbiotic microbial communities, the microbiota of aphids maintained in isolated rearing conditions for approximately two years were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The dominant microbial taxa identified included γ-proteobacteria, such as Buchnera sp., Pseudomonas sp., and Propionibacterium sp. Quantitative PCR revealed that the bacterial community size was approximately 4,300 times greater than the fungal community size. Among these, Buchnera sp., a γ-proteobacterium, exhibited a highly intimate symbiotic relationship with the host aphid. These findings contribute foundational knowledge toward understanding the interactinos between M. persicae and its associated microbial communities, with implications for the management of this pest species.
