초록

Objectives This study aims to analyze recent research trends and applications of Hominis placenta (HP) extracts, focusing on their potential therapeutic applications in various clinical settings. By examining studies published after 2017, this research seeks to provide insight into the future directions for integrating HP-based therapies in traditional Korean medicine. Methods A systematic literature review was conducted using 10 domestic and international databases, covering studies published between 2017 and 2024. A total of 39 studies were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Studies were categorized by target diseases, anatomical application sites, and the type of HP extract, including Laennec and PTP-001. Results Of the selected studies, the most commonly treated areas included the lower extremities, head and neck, and torso. The primary conditions treated were musculoskeletal and neurological disorders, although emerging research also examined endocrine, immunological, and gynecological applications. The findings highlight the increasing diversification of HP-based therapies beyond traditional musculoskeletal applications. Furthermore, Laennec and PTP-001 demonstrated distinct characteristics and mechanisms, suggesting their targeted uses in conditions such as chronic joint disorders and tissue regeneration. Conclusions The findings suggest that HP extract-based treatments have significant potential for broader application across various medical conditions. Future studies should focus on conducting large-scale clinical trials to validate the efficacy and safety of these therapies. Additionally, establishing standardized protocols for HP extract use in clinical research will enhance the credibility and applicability of HP-based treatments in Korean medicine.
