Objectives The purpose of this study was to analyse acupuncture treatment studies using ultrasound over the past 20 years. Methods Acupuncture studies using ultrasounds were retrieved from Web of Science webpage. And it was analyzed by year, research field, academic journal, country, research institute, author, and keyword. Results Out of 477 papers, 188 were selected. The use of ultrasound in acupuncture is steadily increasing, with significant research in various fields beyond complementary medicine. The highest number of papers was published in China, and there were trends in research patterns among different countries. Through keywords, it became evident that ultrasound is being applied in various ways within acupuncture treatment. Conclusions Ultrasound has been utilized in various aspects of acupuncture treatment and will provide useful guidelines for studies in the future.
