Abstract

Background: Person-centered nursing (PCN) is fundamental to providing high-quality, holistic care in labor and delivery settings. Understanding the factors that influence PCN among labor and delivery nurses is essential for enhancing nursing practice and maternal outcomes. Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors influencing PCN among labor and delivery nurses. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 202 nurses from secondary and tertiary hospitals in South Korea. Data were collected from August 13-18, 2024, using structured questionnaires and analyzed with SPSS/WIN 28.0 for descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analyses. Results: The mean scores were 4.43±0.34 for PCN, 4.25±0.39 for nursing professional values, and 4.13±0.57 for work environment. Person-centered nursing differed significantly by academic background, work experience, and hospital size. Person-centered nursing was positively correlated with nursing professional values and work environment. Multiple regression analysis identified nursing professional values and work environment as significant predictors, explaining 41.3% of the variance. Conclusion: Labor and delivery nurses with stronger professional values and more favorable perceptions of their work environment are more likely to practice PCN. Interventions and organizational strategies that strengthen professional values and optimize the work environment are recommended to foster PCN in labor and delivery settings.
