Abstract

Botanical insecticides, particularly extracts from Dalmatian pyrethrum, are considered eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic pesticides. This study evaluated the field efficacy of a 95% ethanol extract of domestically cultivated pyrethrum flowers in 2025. Field trials were conducted in pepper and cucumber fields to assess control efficacy against Myzus persicae in pepper, and the lepidopteran pest Palpita indica in cucumber. In pepper fields, pyrethrum extract exhibited relatively high efficacy against M. persicae, achieving a control value of 79.5 ± 4.5%, second only to the chemical pesticide (cyantraniliprole) with 93.1 ± 4.0%. Against P. indica in cucumber fields, pyrethrum extract showed low efficacy with a control value of 12.8 ± 23.8%, whereas the chemical treatment achieved 73.4 ± 27.1%. These results indicate that domestically cultivated pyrethrum extract is effective against M. persicae under pepper cultivation, but shows limited efficacy against lepidopteran pests such as P. indica. Therefore, its practical application may be suitable for the green peach aphid, while additional strategies such as improved formulation or combined application with microbial insecticides are required to improve efficacy against chewing insects.
