This paper shows the study on the design and another applications of the spray-freeze dryer for the production of valuable material powders. Powder production and handling has been an integral part of material extracting processing and pharmaceutical processing because of the wide use of oral dosage forms. There are a few commonly used powder preparation methods including mechanical milling, precipitaion, spray drying, freeze drying, and so on. In general, methods available for preparing inhalation powders are limited due to certain inhalation powder's sensitive nature to the processing environments. This is particularly true for preparing dry powder aerosols where the aerodynamic particle size(
$<5{\mu}m$ ) and the size distribution are pivotal. Supercritical fluid antisolvent and spray freeze drying have recently emerged as promising techniques for producing powders for use in microcapsulation. However, the aerosol applications of these powders are yet to be explored. The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of using spray freeze-dried valuable material powders for aerosolization. -
Desalination system of revers osmosis(RO) membrane has been proven to be the most economical not only for the desalination of water containing salts, but also for the concentration of solute. RO membranes were traditionally made of inorganic polymers such. as cellulose acetate(CA), Polyamide(PA). To retain more minerals in deep ocean water, a new hybrid membrane composed of tourmaline film as organic material onto inorganic layer of CA polymer in asymmetric structure was developed for RO membrane process. The performance tests were carried out in the permeability of pure water and the rejection of NaCl solution to evaluate the adaptability for DOW desalination. The results of these basic tests show possibility to apply the new hybrid RO membrane for the desalination with function control.

Deep sea water has mid temperature, abundant nutrients and minerals, and good tooter quality. For the purpose of drawing up deep sea water without pump pit construction, tile authors are considering to use air-lift pump. This report describes fundamental experimental investigation for air-lift pump characteristic and improvement in efficiency.

Recently, deep ocean water (DOW), which is plentiful in the East sea, has been recognized a global resources for 21st century. To clarify the characteristics of DOW of the East Sea, the quality of DOW has been investigated and analyzed for 5 years in situ and laboratory in the viewpoints of stability of low-temperature, mineral balance, rich nutrition and cleanness. And it characteristics were compared with foreign DOW used for commercial applications. This study do finally suggest the various utilization methods of DOW based on each characteristics and suitable examples for fisheries and industrial purpose.

Various merchandises have appeared in recent markets of mineral water, beverage, food and cosmetics etc. These are almost manufactured by adding raw seawater, desalinated water, brine or salt from Deep Ocean Water(DOW), and it intimated desalination and mineral extraction are key techniques for DOW business. This study aims to verify the functional performance of mineral-controlled water produced by the basic methods which were proposed by authors for industrial purposes. This water revealed the possibility of the radical scavenging effects and moisturizing capability.

Numerical and experimental studies on pipeline laying for intake Deep Ocean Water are carried out. In the numerical study, an implicit finite difference algorithm is employed for three-dimensional pipe equations. Fluid non-linearity and bending stiffness are considered and solved by Newton-Raphson iteration. Seabed is modeled as elastic foundation with linear spring and damper. Top tension and general configuration of pipeline at a depth are predicted. It is found that control for tension to prevent being large curvature of pipeline is needed on th steep seabed and, it should be considered 23.5 ton of tension at a top of pipe on the process of pipeline laying at 400m of water depth The largest top tension of pipe on condition of the beam sea during pipe laying is shown from the experiment. The results of this study can be contributed to the design of pipeline laying for upwelling deep ocean water.

In a shipyard, there exist various critical decision making components pertaining to various production hindrances. The most prominent one is best-fit spatial arrangement for the minimal spatial occupancy with better pick-ability for the erection of the ship in the dock. During the present research, a concept have been conceived to evade the gap between the identification oj inter-relationships among a set of blocks to be included on a pre-erection area, and a detailed graphical layout of their positions, is called an Optimal Block Relationship Diagram A research has been performed on generation of optimal (or near Optimal) that is, with minimal scrap area. An effort has been made in the generation of optimal (or near-optimal) Optimal Block Relationship Diagram with the Goldberg's Genetic Algorithms with a representation and a set of operators are 'trained' specifically for this application. The expected result to date predicts very good solutions to test problems involving innumerable different blocks to place. The suggested algorithm could accept input from an erection sequence generator program which assists the user in defining the nature and strength of the relationships among blocks, and could produce input suitable for use in a detailed layout stage.

A fact that limits a company's ability to achieve more of its goal is referred to as a 'constraint' shipbuilding industries need to identify and manage constraints. The theory of constraints is evolved out of the problems of bottleneck formation. This happens and is conserved for the formulation if various real time problems for arriving standard uniquely addressed problems If, for example, the goal of a shipbuilding industry is to make money now and in the future, it is suggested that TOC will enable th mangers of the company to do so. TOC, focuses the organization scare resources on improving the performance of the true constraints, and therefore the bottom line of the organization. An attempt is made for the implantation of the theory into real world shipyard decision support mechanism.

The method of caisson typed bridge-foundation fabrication and installation applied in Ul-san newport breakwater project is throughly carried out to compact QRR mound vibro-hammer step by step to minimize settlement through stability check. Floating Dock was mobilized for caisson fabrication due to limited site area. fabricated caisson on the Floating Dock was towed to the deeper area of 8m water depth to be launched, and Floating Crane assisted launching and installation work of the caisson. finally water filling was done followed by surveying work to permanent installation.

The sand compaction pile (SCP) method, which forms a composite ground by driving sand piles into clay deposit, is the most commonly used soil improvement techniques in many countries for more than 30 years. Installation of sand compaction piles reduces the amount of consolidation settlement and increases the bearing capacity of soft clay deposit. In this paper, field survey conducted to investigated the consolidation behavior of the composite ground improved by SCPs. It is suggested that the measured consolidation velocity is later than design theory, however measured consolidation settlement is higher than design theory.

According to the research result of existing regarding the seabed organic sediment, contamination it flows from the land and the sea become the enemy in the coastal water. It was caused with the summer season water temperature rise and dispersing recall respect advancement. Phosphorus which is a main reason of red tide actual condition came to reveal vast quantity with the facts that it gushes. Specially, in the case of the coastal closing waters and the nursery, as the corpse and the fresh fish washing veterinarian was imbrued, it is the actual condition where is more deepened. Consequently the development of shallow layer dredging method of that suction power which is stabilized is demanded to be able to dredge only the sediment layer which has not become the pressure and is a main reason of being imbrued. The dredging methods using the pressure difference minimize the suction of the seabed sediment. This method is stable that suction power which occurs from guard difference of the guard and the guard of the dredging system inland water. That's why it is possible to sort dredging of the organic sediment ranging in upper layer sediment and it will be able to expect the minimization of dredging quantity. Increase of the expense that it followsin orthocenter with the fact will not grow. Because the pressure difference of the dredger inland water is occurred by the suction power. Maintenance administrative costs are reduced, because the one of smallest dredging system maneuvers and the barge which affixes an integrated operation system is mainly in a resting. To reduce a dredging hour, it will be able to solve in the condensed water as operating the jar guard post.

Many ships in voyage experience weight and buoyancy distribution change by various reasons such as change of sea water density and waves, weather condition, and consumption of fuel, provisions, etc . The weight and buoyancy distribution change can bring the ships out of allowable trim, heeling angle. In these case, the ships should adjust trim and heeling angle by shifting of liquid cargo or ballasting, deballasting of ballast tanks for recovery of initial state or for a stable voyage. But, if the adjustment is performed incorrectly, ship's safety such as longitudinal strength, intact stability, propeller immersion, wide visibility, minimum forward draft cannot be secured correctly. So it is required that the adjustment of trim and heeling angle should be planned not by human operators but by optimization computer algorithm. To make an optimized plan to adjust trim and heeling angle guaranteeing the ship's safety and quickness of process, Uk! combined mechanical analysis and optimization algorithm. The candidate algorithms for the study were heuristic algorithm, meta-heuristic algorithm and uninformed searching algorithm. These are widely used in various kinds of optimization problems. Among them, heuristic algorithm
$A^\ast$ was chosen for its optimality. The$A^\ast$ algorithm is then applied for the study. Three core elements of$A^\ast$ Algorithm consists of node, operator, evaluation function were modified and redefined. And we analyzed the$A^\ast$ algorithm by considering cooperation with loading instrument installed in most ships. Finally, the algorithm has been applied to tanker ship's various conditions such as Normal Ballast Condition, Homo Design Condition, Alternate Loading Condition, Also the test results are compared and discussed to confirm the efficiency and the usefulness of the methodology developed the system. -
A practical method to investigate the user interface of web based Flexible Manufacturing System(FMS) on the internet environment is established. Because the industrial FMS controller requires a lot of gadget, such as switch, dial, button, etc., for actual work-site flexible operation sufficiently, the user interface of the controller is significantly complex. The support for operational convenience of FMS controller can increase productivity and efficiency of the user, operational personnel of FMS. While most FMS provide their application programming interface(API) and graphical user interface(GUI) with adequate mechanism itself when used in stand alone, there is increasing demand for FMS that can operate with the intuitional user interface find virtual reality(V/R) environment. This thesis considers the intuitional user interface of Web-based FMS first, and from this, goes a step further, improves as virtual reality environment of FMS on the internet environments by using the feature based modeling technique approach and cartoon rendering. The feature-based modeling technique approach is applied to FMS line which is consist of facilities such as machining center, CNC lathe, autonomous guided vehicle, rail guided vehicle, and various controllers. In this study, the FMS established the intuitional user interface is able to obtain not only the operational convenience but also the enough productivity and significant efficiency.

The deep seabed mining system is generally composed of surface vessel, lifting system, buffer, flexible pipe and miner. The milling system is regarded as a large-scale system in which each subsystem is interconnected to other one. In order to control a large-scale system, a decentralized control approaches have been proposed recently. In this paper, as a basic study on application of decentralized control, firstly, the mining system is simplified modeled, where the lifting system and buffer is regarded as a spherical pendulum and tile flexible pipe is as a two-dimension linear spring. Based on the derived model, the system characteristics and the feasibility of decentralized control are analyzed.

In this study, a robot welding programming system is developed for gantry-type robot using a neutral CAD data format. The system automatically extracts welding line data from tile CAD model represented in IGES format and generates a robot program based on the weld line extracted. The welding program is simulated jar verification by using IGRlP, a virtual manufacturing solution. The robot welding programming system is demonstrated with a simple example.

The wave interactions with fully submerged and floating dual buoy/vertical porous membrane breakwaters has been investigated in experimentally to validate the developed theory and numerical method in the previous study, in which multi-domain hydro-elastic formulation was carried out in the context of linear wave-body interaction theory and Darcy's law. It is found that the experimental results agrees well with the numerical prediction. Transmission and reflection can be quite reduced simultaneously especially in the region of long waves. The properly tuned system to incoming waves can effectively dissipate wave energy and also offset each other between incident and scattered waves using its hydro-elasticity and geometry.

During the past 50 years methods for predicting wave overtopping of coastal structures have coastal structures have continuously been developed Wave overtopping is one of the most important processes for the design of seawalls. The term 'wave overtopping' is used here to refer to the processes where waves hit a sloping structure run up the slope and, if the crest level of the slope is lower than the highest run up level, overtop the structure. Wave overtopping is dependent on the processes associated with breaking wave. The Numerical model is based on Navier-Stokes equation and Marker-Density Function of method for nonlinear free-surface flow by Miyata & Park(1995). The influence of how the slopes of seawalls, wave type and crest freeboard affect overtopping discharges has been investigated. The research of study using the new development nonlinear free-surface flow numerical model SOLA-VOF are presented.

When the wind blows hard, most waves are breaking in sea. Breaking waves occur, exceeding limitation of wave steepness(wave height/wave length=l/7). Because a wave of single angular frequency couldn't generate the breaking phenomena at two dimensional ocean engineering basin, the breaking wave can be generated by the superposition of waves with various angular frequencies. We research how are the particle kinematics in the breaking wave and the magnitude of the breaking wave exciting force. We compare the force in a regular wave which has same specifications(wave height, period and length) as the breaking wave. Also the experimental results of wave exciting force and particle velocity are investigated by comparison on the analytic results using the potential theory.

New designed floating breakwater made of Polyethelener with considering the introduction of new material for being harmony with environment and stability of the floater is developed for a marine ranching. Model experiment in order to test its capability is performed for the regular and irregular waves in ocean engineering basin. Good capability to break the incident wave within the 6 second of period and 1 m of height is shown. Breaking efficiency for long period wave is not so good in regular and irregular wave. The results of this study will contribute to the design and construction of the floating breakwater.

Marinas are often located in prime port side locations. hi Korea these locations are already developed and reclamation of the existing properties poses many difficulties and financial overhead. Also, to develop a standard marina in Korea with tide ranges up to 6 meters would require considerable dredging and reclamation works needing long lead times and large SOC costs. The Ocean Space's floating marina system is an independent offshore floating static level system that does not require fixed location breakwaters. The entire marina floats with the tide giving a calm consistent berthing condition for vessels irrespective of the surrounding tide and weather conditions. The floating marina system provides also for all of functions needed to marina comprising a breakwater to protect the vessels, the pontoon system to house the vessels, a dub house and retail tourism precinct, fuel reservoir and associated support facilities in a turn key self contained unit. The modular nature of the system will mean that initial demand can be met with simple units and then further modules can be added quite easily without the related expansion difficulties or infrastructure. This paper contains the main characteristics of the floating marina system and tire design process of the structure. The mooring, motion & stability analysis, the overall & local structural design and the mooring & anchor system design are introduced in this paper.

Floating marina has been interests as an alternative to the facilities for recreational boats because of its cost effectivenes and less environmental conflicts. For tile present research, a square floating marina with a length of 400m and draft of 5m was used. This marina can be extended to 800m by putting anotjer one together. Tidal field around tile marina was simulated using a multi-level finite difference method. Tidal motion was assumed sinusoidal in a closed rectangular bay. Velocities and residual current were investigated for two cases of single marina and two marinas installed in tile bay. It was found that the horizontal velocity fields from the water surface to the structure bottom around tile marina were affected. In the marina basin, magnitude of velocity was reduced considerably but overall quality of water circulation was preserved even after two marina were installed.

The failure modes analysis by the real process method at the head section of rubble mound breakwaters is more important than other failure modes analysis. because this initial failure modes and failure process will lead to the destruction of the structure. The three-dimensional failure modes are discussed using the experimental data with directional waves considering the failure modes. It was processed step by step failure around the head of rubble mound breakwaters. The spacial characteristics of failure mode by real process analysis was well descript at the rubble mound structures.

본 연구는 2003 년 9월 내습한 태풍 매미로 인해 마산 진해 용원 지역을 포함하는 가덕수도 인근 해역의 태풍 매미의 풍역변화 특성과 개방형 및 폐쇄성 해역 등의 지형적 특성을 고려한 호안 월류 패턴을 고찰하고 이를 모식화하였다. 태풍 매미 통과시 진해만의 경우는 풍향이 E-ESE 인 시점이 파랑에너지가1 충분히 발달하여 입사할 조건에 해당되고 마산만의 경우는 풍향이 SE-S인 시점이며, 부산신항 인근 해역은 S-SSW의 풍향이 유세한 시점을 중심으로 태풍파랑을 산정하여야 구조물에 미치는 정확한 영향을 평가할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 이상 파랑의 내습에 따른 해양구조물의 안정정을 확보하기 위해서는 태풍 통과시 천해역의 풍역변화에 따른 수위변동 및 파랑장 영향을 해석하고 입사파랑에 의한 구조물의 피해를 최소화할 수 있는 방안의 연구 필요성을 강조할 수 있다.

In-situ collection experiments were performed to analyze inflowing sedilnents behavior as a basic study of topographical change in Nakdong River Estuary. Sediment rate and bed load flux ranged from 0.0004 to
$0.472\;g/cm^2/day\;and\;0.0005\~1.7579\;g/cm^2/day$ , respectively. The settling velocity of suspended particulate matter was estimated in tire range of$0.339\~1.010\;cm/sec$ , The grain size analysis shows that surface sediments in backside of sandbar and bed load in front of dike have a similar grain size distribution. It is considered that the source of surface sediments in backside of sandbar were flowed in from Nakdong River. In order to verify the characteristics of inflowing sediments behavior, detailed surveys around Nakdong River Estuary need to be carried out, continuously. -
There has been considerable controversy over the change of coastal topography and shoreline by coastal erosion in Gohyun Bay, Geojedo. In this study, we analyzed aerial photographs and surveyed coastal topography and shoreline. Changes between years were identified using a GIS overlay analysis and field surveys with DGPS, Total Station and Echo Sounder. As a result, we were able to identify changes by coastal erosion in the area of Gohyun Bay, Geojedo.

In order to see physical characteristics of water masses and tidal currents in Gamak Bay, some field surveys have been conducted using ADCP, Aanderaa current meter and CTD from May 17 to June 3, 2004. The northwest of the bay appeared to have a high temperature and a high salinity so that it coincided with the previous results. The distribution of temperature and salinity seemed to reflect the characteristics of water masses. At the south mouth of the bay, a northwestward-southeastward flow was dominant at the surface layer while a northeastward-southwestward flow was dominant at the bottom layer.

본 연구에서는 태풍의 천애역 내습시 태풍의 풍역이동과 위험반경내의 풍향 풍속 변화를 해안지형의 특성에 따라 파랑이 충분히 발달할 수 있는 해역을 대상으로 발생가능한 풍향별 취송거리 및 관측된 풍향 풍속으로 천해설계파를 산정하기 위한 한가지 수치해석기법을 소개한다. 이를 통해 구조물 전면에서의 파고계산을 위해서는 구역을 결정할 때 해역의 개방 정도 및 폐쇄성과 태풍중심 이동경로가 천해설계파 산정시 중요함을 강조 할 수 있다. 실시간 해석기법에 대해서 부가적인 재해석 절차가 필요한 상황이지만 본 연구의 해석기법은 연안 해안지역의 천해설계파를 추정함에 있어 태풍의 천해역 통과시 풍역의 변화특성과 이를 고려한 파랑의 불획 정성을 극복하고 보완 할 수 있는 천해설계파 산정을 위한 기초적 연구로서 활용될 수 있을 것이라 판단된다.

A new finite difference scheme is studied fur the simulation of free surface, surface the third derivative tenn for the wave elevation is artificially added in the the free-surface boundary condition. This study presents a comparative analysis with simulations performed by using the classical MAC method. More systematic computations are carried out by changing the submergence depth and angle of attack. Through the numerical simulation, it is found that a new numerical method becomes more efficient for the reason that the free surface elevation is reasonably developed at tire rear of trailing edge.

Low-frequency damping characteristics of side-by-side moored LNG-FPSO and LNGC arc investigated through a series of free decay model tests in calm water and under wind load condition. It is shown that low frequency damping of LNGC changes dramatically, sway damping increases more than six times for 4m distance condition while it decreases by
$30\%$ for 20m distance compared with a single LNGC case. Simulation using the experimental data enhances the results, which demonstrates the necessity of experimental low-frequency damping coefficients for simulation of side-by-side vessels motion behavior. -
An underwater motion measurement system was constructed for applications to the model basin. A commercial motion capture system, FALCON of Motion Analysis Corp., which corrects automatically the distortion caused by refraction of the light passing through water and air, was adopted for underwater motion measurement. The modifications of FALCON system were performed: waterproofing camera housings, markers, connectors, and a new blue ring lighter. the accuracy of the motion measurement was obtained within the calibration error of 0.87mm in average and 0.89mm in standard deviation for the distance of 500mm between two markers on the calibration device. the volume of
$2100mm(length)\times2100mm(breadth)\times2300mm(Height)$ was covered with 4 cameras of the underwater motion measurement system. For the performance verification, motion measurement test of a vertical mooring chain model excited at the top end was carried out. The 3D motions of mooring model were measured with variable amplitude and period of the forced excitation. Higher order motions of the mooring model were observed as the excitation period decreases. the performance of the system was verified by successfully measuring 3D motion of mooring model. -
The estimation of springing responses for recent ships are carried out and application to a ship design are described. To this aim, springing effects on hull girder were re-evaluated including non-linear wave excitations and torsional vibrations of the hull. The Timoshenko beam model was used to calculate stress distribution on the hull girder by the superposition method. The strip method was employed to calculate the hydrodynamic forces and moments on the hull. In order to remove the irregular frequencies, we adopted 'rigid lid' on the hull free surface level and added asymptotic interpolation along the high frequency range. Several applications to the existing ships were carried out. They are Bishop and Price's container ship, S-175 container ship, large container, VLCC and ore carrier. One of them is compared with ship measurement result while another with that of model test. Comparison between analytical solution and numerical one for homogeneous beam type artificial ship shows good agreement. It is found that most springing energy came from high frequency waves for the ships having low natural frequency and North Atlantic route etc. Therefore, the high frequency tail of the wave spectrum should be increased by
$\omega^{-3}\;instead\;of\;\omega^{-4}\;or\;\omega^{-5}$ for springing calculation. -
This paper deals with a new mathematical formulation of nonlinear wave profile based on Banach fixed point theorem. As application of the formulation and its solution procedure, some numerical solutions was presented in this paper and nonlinear equation was derived. Also we introduce a new operator for iteration and getting solution. A numerical study was accomplished with Stokes' first-order solution and iteration scheme, and then we can know the nonlinear characteristic of Stokes' high-order solution. That is, using only Stokes' first-oder(linear) velocity potential and an initial guess of wave profile, it is possible to realize the corresponding high-oder Stokian wave profile with tile new numerical scheme which is the method of iteration. We proved the mathematical convergence of tile proposed scheme. The nonlinear strategy of iterations has very fast convergence rate, that is, only about 6-10 iterations arc required to obtain a numerically converged solution.

To predict rolling performance for a barge-type FPSO, the evaluation of correct nonlinear roll damping is critical. The squall section of FPSO causes a fair amount of viscous damping effect. Free roll decoy tests were conducted to estimate nonlinear roll damping for a barge-typ FPSO of three different loading conditions. The roll motion RAO was deduced by model tests in the wave condition of wideband spectrum. In numerical calculation, the quadratic damping was considered as equivalent linear damping using the results of free roll decay test. Tested roll performance in JONSWAP wave spectrum was compared with numerical results. These two results show good agreement, in spite of proximity in peak wave period and roll natural period.

A Numerical analysis method is developed in order to compute the flaw and wave field for 2-dimensional floating body in the free roll motion with 3 degrees of freedom. Navier-Stokes and continuity equations are gaverning equations in tire present study. Finite Difference method is introduced to discretize the governing equation. The free surface is traced by the interface tracking method and the grid system is fitted to boundaries including free surface and body surface, which is moving in the flow field. The numerical scheme is based on Maker and Cell method. For the sake of validation of the numerical method, the computed roll decay factors according to tire midship section shapes are compared with measured results. The numerical results are discussed in order to understand the effect of midship section shape on roll motion.

A finite element analysis is proposed to assess the dynamic response due to impulse excitation of UUV cable system. 'Onnuri'. a special purpose ship of KORDI. was adopted as a support vessel. and all the main dimensions and properties used in the analysis were determined by the support vessel. Transient dynamic response analysis was carried out for various types of impulses. and the magnitude of cable tension induced by impulse was discussed as results.

Ocean developments gradually move to deep-sea in the 21 century. A deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle is one of important tools for ocean resource survey. A marine cable plays an important role for the safe operation and signal transmission of a deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle. The first cable of a deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle is excited by surface vessel motion and shows non-linear dynamic behaviors. A ROV launcher is also excited by the 1st cable motion. A numerical method is necessary for analysing the dynamic behaviour of the first marine cable and the ROV launcher. In this study, a numerival program is appled to a 6,000m long cable for a deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle to shaw shows the dynamic behaviour of the cable and the ROV launcher under combined excitations.

It is well known fact that acoustic positioning systems are absolutely needed for various underwater operations. According to the distances between their sensors they are classified into three parts: long baseline(LBL), short baseline(SBL), and ultra-short baseline(USBL). Among them the USBL system is widely used because of its simplicity, although it is the most inaccurate. Recently, in order to increase the positioning accuracy, various USBL systems using broadband signal such as MFSK(Multiple Frequency Shift Keying) are produced. However, their positioning accuracy is still limited by background noise and reflected waves. Therefore, there is difficulty in applying the USBL system using MFSK signal in a shallow water with noisy conditions. In order to examine the effect of the noise and wave reflections this paper analyze position errors for various conditions using numerical simulations. The simulation results say that tile SNR must be greater than 20dB and errors in the vertical direction are slightly increased by wave reflections by upper and lower boundaries.

The effect of oscillating on the unsteady laminar flow past a circular cylinder is numerically investigated in the present study. Our study is to analyze the vortex formation behind a circular cylinder for different rotary oscillation conditions. And then we are study to portray the unsteady dynamics of wake flows. We decide lock-on region by observing the phase switching phenomena We classify the vortex formation patterns in the primary lock-on region The present study is to identify the quasi-periodic state around lock-on region. At the boundary between lock-on and non-lock-on the shedding frequency is bifurcated. After the bifurcation, one frequency follow the forcing frequency (
$S_f$ ) and the other returns to the natural shedding frequency ($St_0$ ). In the quasi-periodic state, the variation of magnitudes and relevant phase changes of$C_L$ with forcing phase are examined. -
The effect of frequency and amplitude of the OWC (Oscillating Water Column) motion on the nonlinear reaction forces in an air duct arc studied experimentally. Experimental OWC model is idealized as a simple circular cylinder with an orifice type air duct located at the middle of the top rid. Reaction forces due to forced heave oscillation are measured and analyzed. By subtracting the effect of inertia forces and restoring forces, pneumatic damping force and added spring force are deduced. The effects of the frequency and amplitude of the heave motion are discussed. Also, the effects of solidity of the duct on the reaction forces are discussed.

The present paper deals with the numerical study to analyze the self-starting performance of impulse turbine in a reciprocating air flow generated by sinusoidal motion of wave inside oscillating water column. Result was compared to that of Wells turbine, well-known wave energy conversion device, and showed that the impulse turbine has a superior self-starting ability. More detailed parametric study was performed to demonstrate the effects of moment of inertia of rotor, loading torque, tip clearance and angle of guide vane.

The compressive characteristics of thick carbon/epoxy composite in a submarine environment was investigated in this study. The specimens made of thick carbon fiber/epoxy composite that were immersed into seawater Jar thirteen months. the seawater content at saturation was about
$1.2\%$ of the specimen weight. Compressive tests have been performed in different hydrostatic pressures of 0.1 MPa, 100 MPa, 200 MPa, and 270 MPa. The results showed that the compressive elastic modulus increased about$12.3\%$ as the hydrostatic pressure increased from 0.1 MPa to 200 MPa. The results also showed that compressive fracture strength increased$28\%$ and compressive fracture strain increased$8.5\%$ as the hydrostatic pressure increased from 0.1 MPa to 270 MPa. -
The characteristics of the probability distribution for mechanical properties, e.g. tensile strength, reduction of area ana elongation, for STS304 stainless steel in elevated temperature were investigated from tensile test performed by constant cross head speea controls with 1mm/min, Recently, in order to clarify the strengthening mechanisms at high temperature, a new scheme to improve high temperature mechanical properties is desired. Therefore, the test ,technique development of high temperature creep behaviors for this material is very important. In this paper, the creep praperties and creep life prediction by Larson-Miller parameter method for STS304 stainless steel to be used for other high temperature components were presented at the elevated temperatures of 600, 650 and

Inconel 625 is useful in variety of industrial applications because of the resistance to attack in various corrosive media at temperatures from
$200^{\circ}C$ to aver$1090^{\circ}C$ , in combination with good law- and high temperature mechanical strength. Rencently, this material is also used widely in offshore processing piping in order to extend the maintenance term and improve the quality of anti-corrosion. In general, high quality weldments for this material are readily produced by commonly used processes. Not all processes are applicable to this material group, Ni-alloys. Metallurgical characterictics or the unavailability of matching, position or suitable welding processes. Nowadays, the flux cored wire is developed and applied for the better productivity in several welding position including the vertical position. in this study, the weldability and weldment characteristics (mechanical properties) of inconel 625 are considered in FCAW(Flux Core Arc Welding) associated with the several shielding gases($80\%Ar\;+\;20\%CO_2,\;50\%Ar+50CO_2,\;100CO_2$ ) in viewpoint of welding productivity. -
Stress intensity factor of semi-circular crack front was calculated by FEM, and also allowable crack size which doesn‘t break out the fracture by SCC in residual stress field of STS materials. Allowable crack size was increased with compressive residual stress provided by shot peening on material surface, and with magnitude of compressive residual stress for depth direction.

Effects of circumferentially local wall thinning on the fracture behavior of pipes were investigated by monotonic four-point bending. Local wall thinning was machined on the pipes in order to simulate erosion/corrosion metal loss. The configurations of the eroded area included an eroded ratio of d/t= 0.2, 0.5, 0.6, and 0.8, and an eroded length of I = 10 mm, 25 mm, and 120 mm. Fracture type could be classified into ovalization, local buckling, and crack initiation depending on the eroded length and eroded ratio. Three-dimensional elasto-plastic analyses were also carried out using the finite element method, which is able to accurately simulate fracture behaviors excepting failure due to cracking. It was possible to predict the crack initiation point by estimating true fracture ductility under multi-axial stress conditions at the center of the eroded area.

In this study, soil laboratory tests use carried out to find the applicability of RAP method as the foundation of a structure. And bearing capacity and the failure mechanism of RAP method was studied according to relative density(
$60\%,\;70\%,\;90\%$ ), diameter(45mm, 60mm, 70mm) of each pier ana depth(5cm, l0cm, 15cm, 20cm, 25cm, 30cm). Earth pressure cell is set up approach RAP and 1.0D space at RAP center. Bearing acpacity and the failure mechanism of RAP is investigated by load test As a result, bulging failure was happened in$5\~10cm\;(1.0D\~2.00)$ depth which the maximum lateral earth pressure is acting. Especially, diameter changing of RAP are in inverse proportion to the relative density and the lateral stress is very much influenced by the lateral earth pressure in every layer and tends to decrease according to depth. -
The Jeju Island in Korea is the clean area which the tradition culture is preserved locally well with the nature environment of Heaven's blessing. An air pollution is becoming recently serious problem as the industrial development is proceeded with the urbanization. This study investigates that the atmosphere environment at Jeju area influences on the metal corrosion. A study of the atmosphere corrosion for carbon steel, copper, zinc ana aluminium exposed on five test sites indoors and outdoors. Corrosion results are treated statistically and adjusted to a model previously proposed for carbon steel, copper, zinc and aluminium based on the influence of environmental parameters and main pollutants(
$SO_2$ and chlorides) on tire atmosphere corrosion of metals. Through this study, we try to set the standards atmosphere corrosion at Jeju Island. -
The materials of ship screw propeller are commonly the manganese bronze. The seawater corrosion and cavitation of the screw propeller reduce tire propulsive performance of ship. In screw manufactory, tire corrosion rust of tire screw propeller is removed by a hand grinding. The grinding work makes the dust of the heavy metals from the manganese bronze. The dust makes indoor working environment poor. A friendly-environmental and automatic corrosion removing apparatus was developed for the improvement of screw processing and working environment. The corrosion rust of a screw propeller was remarkably removed by using apparatus. And the screw surface roughness was improved by a blasting effect of the apparatus performance test. Anode polarization curves on jour processing conditions, that is to say, grinding, blasting, wire-brushing, fine sand papering, were confirmed by a potentiostat. Especially, two kinds of medias, alumina and emery, were used in the blasting processing. Then, investigated tire cavitation erosion of specimen. This result proved that tire blasting work has considerably improved the corrosion resistance of a screw propeller.

SiC materials have been extensively studied for high temperature components in advanced energy system and advanced gas turbine because it has excellent high temperature strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion, good resistance to oxidation and good thermal and chemical stability etc. However, the brittle characteristics of SiC such as low fracture toughness and low strain-to fracture still impose a severe limitation on practical applications of SiC materials. For these reasons, SiC/SiC composites can be considered as a promising for various structural materials, because of their good fracture toughness compared with monolithic SiC ceramics. But, high temperature and pressure lead to the degradation of the reinforcing jiber during the hot pressing. Therefore, reduction of sintering temperature and pressure is key requirements for the fabrication of SiC/SiC composites by hot pressing method. In the present work, monolithic Liquid Phase Sintered SiC (LPS-SiC) was fabricated by hot pressing method in Ar atmosphere at
$1800^{\circ}C$ under 20MPa using$Al_2O_3,\;Y_2O_3\;and\;SiO_2$ as sintering additives in order to low sintering temperature and sintering pressure. The starting powder was high purity$\beta-SiC$ nano-powder with all average particle size of 30mm. The characterization of LPS-SiC was investigated by means of SEM and three point bending test. Base on the composition of sintering additives-, microstructure- and mechanical property correlation, tire compositions of sintering additives are discussed. -
In this paper. dynamic behavior of the cracked beam under a moving mass is presented using the finite element method (FEM). Model accuracy is improved with the following consideration: (1) FE model with Timoshenko beam element (2) Additional flexibility matrix due to crack presence (3) Interaction forces between the moving mass and supported beam. The Timoshenko bean model with a two-node finite element is constructed based on Guyan condensation that leads to the results of classical formulations. but in a simple and systematic manner. The cracked section is represented by local flexibility matrix connecting two unchanged beam segments and the crack as modeled a massless rotational spring. The inertia force due to the moving mass is also involved with gravity force equivalent to a moving load. The numerical tests for various mass levels. crack sizes. locations and boundary conditions were performed.

This paper concerns about dynamic analysis of an underwater test miner, which operates on cohesive soil. The test miner consists of tracked vehicle and pick-up. device. The motion oj pick-up device relative to the vehicle chassis is controlled by two pairs of hydraulic cylinders. The test miner is modeled by means of a commercial software. A terramechanics model of cohesive soft soil is implemented to the software and applied to dynamic analysis of the test miner model. The dynamic responses of test miner are studied with respect to of four different types of terrain conditions.

Arc welding is sometimes used to repair damaged cast iron parts in diesel engine for driving a ship. In this case cola arc welding. is good for. saving the time and results in good repairing. But if some difference in hardness on welding zones made with AWS E Ni-CI and NiFe-CI. happen, repaired parts would be cracked in a short. In order to overcome this default, the study is performed on varying preheating temperature of welding parts, selecting welding rod and welding work way. The result will be used on ship's repair working shop.

The paper describes a test program on welded K-joints fabricated from circular hollow section brace members and chords made with API 2W 50 grade steel produced by POSCO. The K-joints were tested for three loading conditions at RIST. The specimens were tested in reaction frame that allowed vertical uniform loading to the structure. From the test, the crack initiation and development were observed and the fatigue failure could be predicted. The results were also compared with the provided S-N curves by DnV.
