  • To minimize occupational noise induced hearing loss, it is recommended that workers should not be exposed to noise levels exceeding 85 dBA for over 8 h. In the present study, noise exposure levels were measured for seven workers based on their tasks on a training ship. The A-weighted noise exposure level (Lex,24h) was measured by taking into account the A-weighted equivalent continuous sound level (LAeq,i), duration (h) and noise contribution (Lex,24h,i) from the workers' locations. Results are thus obtained for different job categories as follows: officer group Lex,24h=56.1 dB, navigation crew Lex,24h=58.9 dB, navigation cadet Lex,24h=62.0 dB, ship's cook Lex,24h=64.3 dB, engine cadet Lex,24h=91.1 dB, engineer Lex,24h=91.1 dB, and engine crew Lex,24h=95.1 dB. It was determined that the engineers, engine crews, and engine cadets in charge of machinery must wear hearing protection devices. By wearing hearing protection devices when working in highly noisy engine rooms, it is estimated that the noise expose levels could be reduced by the following amounts: engineer Lex,24h=23.1 dB, engine Crew Lex,24h=24.4 dB, and engine cadet Lex,24h=21.5 dB. Moreover, if the no. 2 lecture room and mess room bottom plates in the cadets accommodations were improved to the 64 mm A-60-class floating plates, then further reductions are possible as follows: navigation cadet Lex,24h=4.3 dB and engine cadet Lex,24h=1.8 dB.

  • This paper presents an 24 GHz I/Q LO generator for a heartbeat measurement radar system. In order to improve the mismatch performance between I and Q LO signals against process variation, a 24 GHz I/Q LO generator employing a low-pass phase shifter and a high-pass phase shifter composed of inductors and capacitors is proposed. The proposed 24 GHz I/Q LO generator consists of an LO buffer, a low-pass phase shifter and a high-pass phase shifter. It was designed using a 65 nm CMOS technology and draws 8 mA from a 1 V supply voltage. The proposed 24 GHz I/Q LO generator shows a gain of 7.5 dB, a noise figure of 2.3 dB, 0.1 dB gain mismatch and $4.3^{\circ}$ phase mismatch between I and Q-path against process and temperature variations for the operating frequencies from 24.05 GHz to 24.25 GHz.

  • A Bacillus subtilis strain, designated G24, was isolated from grape during a study on the fermentation of Cheongkukjang, Korean traditional fast-fermented bean paste. Also, a newly isolated bacteriophage SPG24, which was found to inhibit the fermentation process, uses B. subtilis G24 as a host. The complete genome sequence of the bacteriophage SPG24 was 152,060 bp in length, with a G+C content of 42.2%. This sequence included 232 ORF; 58 forward ORFs and 174 reverse ORFs.

  • This study chiefly aimed to ascertain the effect of age at weaning on caecal content characteristics, post-weaning performance and health of rabbits. A secondary aim was to study the effect of dietary restriction on performance and health of rabbits. After delivery, 30 litters of 8 pups each, were housed in separate cages. Fifteen litters were weaned 24 days from birth (group W 24) while the other 15 were weaned at 28 days (group W28). After weaning, 53 rabbits of group W24 and 56 of group W28 were fed ad libitum (group LIB), while 53 rabbits of group W24 and 57 of group W28 were restricted (group RES). All the rabbits were kept in individual cages. Fourteen other rabbits of groups W24 (7 fed ad libitum and 7 restricted) and 7 of group W28 were sacrificed to obtain data regarding caecum weight and caecal content. Age at weaning affected neither the state of health nor the final live weight. In comparison with those of group W28, the rabbits weaned at 24 days had a lower daily gain until 35 days of age but gain was higher subsequently. From the 28th day, however, the feed intake and the feed conversion ratio of the group W24 rabbits were always better than those of W28. The restricted diet until 42 days resulted in a lower weight both at 42 days (1,078 vs. 1,164 g) and at 70 days (2,192 vs. 2,294 g). Indeed, from the 42nd day, despite receiving feed ad libitum the rabbits of the restricted group continued to ingest less feed (120.8 vs. 127.2 g) than those of the ad libitum group, and had a slightly lower daily gain (39.8 vs. 40.3 g). The measurements carried out on the caecum highlighted significant differences among the groups in caecal content (33.1 vs. 31.7 vs. 25.3 g respectively for groups W24LIB, W28 and W24RES), for total volatile fatty acids (53.2 vs. 50.6 vs. 44.5 mmol/l respectively for groups W24LIB, W28and W24RES) for ammonia (7.0 vs. 7.2vs 8.8 mmol/l respectively for groups W24LIB, W28 and W24RES), for propionate (5.7 vs. 6.3 vs. 8.1% respectively for groups W24LIB, W28 and W24RES) and for propionate/butyrate (0.33 vs. 0.36 vs. 0.49 respectively for groups W24LIB, W28 and W24RES).

  • In this work, a wideband technique has been proposed that improves the IF bandwidth of mixers and a 24-GHz down-conversion mixer employing the proposed technique has been designed and fabricated based on 0.13-${\mu}m$ RFCMOS technology. The mixer showed the conversion gain of $2.7{\pm}1.5$ dB from DC to 5.25 GHz IF for a fixed LO frequency of 24 GHz. Measured P-1dB and LO-RF isolation was -8.7 dBm and 21 dB, respectively. The mixer draws DC current of 10.6 mA from 1.3 V supply.

  • Bumblebees are widely used to pollinate crops in greenhouses and fields. Here, we investigated whether different wake-up treatments during a short period of 1~3 days just before indoor rearing has any effects on oviposition and colony development of $CO_2$-treated Bombus ignitus queens and artificially hibernated B. terrestris queens The wake-up regimes were defined as 16L for 1 day (16L-1), 16 L per day for 3 days (16L-3), 24L for 1 day (24L-1), or 24D for 1 day (24D-1). Among these wake-up treatments, the oviposition rate and preoviposition period of B. ignitus queens reared at 24L-1 were 16.7~25.1% higher and 1.0~3.5 days shorter than other wake-up treatments. B. terrestris queens reared at 24L-1 also showed the best results for egg-laying characteristics, which were 8.9~18.8% higher for oviposition and 0.6~3.5 days shorter for preovipostion period than other wake-up treatments. Furthermore, B. terrestris queens reared at 24L-1 were 17.5% and 13.8% higher in rate of colony foundation and queen production, respectively, than other wake-up treatments. These results show that the most favorable wake-up treatment just before rearing for egg-laying and colony developmental characteristics of B. ignitus and B. terrestris queens was 24L-1. Overall, our findings indicate that a wake-up treatment just before rearing was effective for colony initiation and colony development of bumblebee queens.

  • Hybrid plasmid pEA24, shuttle vector YRp7 carrying amylase gene of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, was transformed to yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and the expression of B. amyloliquefaciens amylase gene in yeast was investigated. The frequency of transformation to S. cerevisiae DBY747 with YRp7 was increased by treatment of 40% polyethylene glycol (MW 4, 000), PH 7.0, at 3$0^{\circ}C$, and by regeneration used 2% top agar. The amount of cellular amylase activity produced by S. cerevisiae containing pEA24 was 2% of that secreted from B. amyloliquefaciens, but in case of S. cerevisiae transformant, the amylase secreted was not detected. A comparison of genetic stability of pEA24 and YRp7 plasmids in yeast was carried out by cultivation of transformants in tryptophan-supplement-medium. The pEA24 plasmid was more unstable than YRp7 in S. cerevisiae. The size of pEA24 extracted from S. cerevisiae transformants was found to be identical with that from E. coli transformants by agarose gel electrophoresis.

  • The atomic structures and electronic properties of six classical and nonclassical $H_2O$@$C_{24}$ fullerene regioisomers are systematically studied using the hybrid density functional B3LYP method and M06-2X method with empirical dispersion in conjunction with the 6-31G(d,p) basis sets. The charge transfer, frontier orbitals, dipole moment, energy gap between the HOMO and LUMO, and volume change of the $C_{24}$ cage are analyzed upon encapsulation of a $H_2O$ molecule in each $C_{24}$ regioisomer. All encapsulation processes are endothermic and the relative stabilities of six $C_{24}$ fullerene regioisomers change upon encapsulation of $H_2O$.

  • $(NH_4)_{4.5}[H_{3.5}{\alpha}-PtMo_6O_{24}]{\cdot}1.5\;H_2O(A),\;(NH_4)_4[H_4{\beta}-PtMo_6O_{24}]{\cdot}1.5\;H_2O(B),\;and\;K_{3.5}[H_{4.5}{\alpha}-PtMo_6O_{24}]{\cdot}3\;H_2O(C)$ have been synthesized and their molecular structures have been also determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The space groups, unit cell parameters, and R factors are as follows: Compound A, monoclinic, $A_{2/a}$, a= 19.074 (3), b=21.490 (3), c=15.183 (2) ${\AA};\;{\beta}$=109.67 (1) ${\AA}$; z=8; R=0.075($IF_0I>4{\sigma}(IF_0I);$ Compound B, triclinic, P$bar{1}$, a=10.776 (2), b=15.174 (4), c=10.697 (3) ${\AA};\;{\alpha}$ =126.29 (2), ${\beta}$=111.55 (2), ${\gamma}$=93.18 (2) ${\AA}$; Z=2; R=0.046($IF_0I>3{\sigma}(IF_0I);$): Compound C, triclinic, Pl, a=12.426 (2), b=13.884 (2), c=10.089 (1) ${\AA}$; ${\alpha}$=102.59 (2), ${\beta}$=110.73 (1), ${\gamma}$=53.93 (1) ${\AA}$; Z=2; R=0.074 ($IF_0I>3{\sigma}(IF_0I)$. Compounds A and C contain the well-known Anderson structure (planar structure) heteropoly oxometalate having approximate $bar{3}_m(D_{3d})$ symmetry, while compound B contains the bent structure heteropoly oxometalate having appproximate $2_{mm}(C2_v)$ symmetry. The bent structure and the planar one are geometrical isomers. These compounds are rot only novel heteroply molybdates containing platinate(IV) but also the first example of geometrical isomerism in the hexamolybdoheteropoly oxometalates. That isomerization surprisingly occurred because of the change of only 0.5 non-acidic hydrogen atom attached to the polyanion such as $[H_{3.5}{\alpha} -PtMo_6O_{24}]^{4.5-}{\to}[H_4{\beta}-PtMo_6O_{24}]^{4-}{\to}[H_{4.5}{\alpha} -PtMo_6O_{24}]^{3.5-}$. It seems that the gradual protonation of the polyanion plays an important role in that isomerism. These heteropolyanions form dimers by strong hydrogen bonds between two heteropolyanions in the respective crystal system.

  • Let $E_A^B$ denote the elliptic curve $E_A^B:y^2=x^3+Ax+B$. In this paper, we calculate the number of points on elliptic curves $E_A^0:y^2=x^3+Ax$ over $\mathbb{F}_p$ mod 24. For example, if $p{\equiv}1$ (mod 24) is a prime, $3t^2{\equiv}1$ (mod p) and A(-1 + 2t) is a quartic residue modulo p, then the number of points in $E_A^0:y^2=x^3+Ax$ is congruent to 0 modulo 24.
