The surface $O_3,\;CO,\;NO_x,\;and\;SO_2$ were measured at Gosan in Jeju Island from May 2004 to April 2005. Over this period, the mean concentrations $({\pm}s.d.)$ of each gas was 40.06 $({\pm}16.01)$ ppbv for $O_3,\;264.92({\pm}115.73)ppbv\;for\;CO,\;1.98({\pm}2.73)ppbv\;for\;SO)_2,\;and\;4.64 ({\pm}3.24) ppbv\;for\;NO_x$. The monthly variations and the diurnal variations of these gases show that the Gosan site is situated in a relatively clean region. However, there were episodic simultaneous peaks in CO and $SO_2$, especially in winter and early spring. Using cluster analysis with air mass back- ward trajectory analysis, we suggest that these episodes are due to the influence of transportation of polluted air mass from polluted regions. In the cluster, which was under the dominant influence of clean maritime air mass, low levels of $O_3,\;CO,\;and\;SO_2$ were observed. The levels of these species were elevated in the other two clusters which had the air mass influenced by polluted continental regions. In addition, ratios of the chemical species such as $CO/NO_x,\;SO_2/NO_x,\;and\;CO/SO_2$ revealed the somewhat different characteristics of emission sources influencing each cluster. The differences in concentration of trace gases among clusters with different origin and transport pathways imply that Gosan is under the effect of pollution transported from other regions.

This study was carried out to determine an optimal lean $NO_x$ trap (LNT) regeneration condition based on a $NO_x$ storage fraction. The LNT regeneration was performed by an in-cylinder post fuel injection method. A $NO_x$ storage fraction is defined by the ratio of current cumulated $NO_x$ amount in the LNT to the $NO_x$ storage capacity: 0 means empty and 1 fully loaded. In this study five engine operating conditions were chosen to represent the New European Driving Cycle. With various $NO_x$ storage fractions each engine operating condition, the LNT regeneration was executed and then $NO_x$ conversion efficiency, additional fuel consumption, CO and THC slip, peak catalyst temperature were measured. The results showed that there exist an optimal condition to regenerate the LNT, eg. 1500 rpm 6 bar BMEP with below 0.7 $NO_x$ storage fraction in this experimental constraint.

Gasoline direct injection(GDI) engine has a high thermal efficiency, but it has a problem to increase carbon emissions such as soot and $CO_x$. In this study, the objective is to analyze numerically a problem for adding the hydrogen during the intake stroke so as to reduce the injected amount of gasoline in GDI engines. For selection of the base model, the cylinder pressure of simulation is matched to experimental data. The numerical analysis are carried out by a CFD model with the hydrogen addition of 2%, 3% and 4% on the volume basis. In the case of 3% hydrogen addition, the injected gasoline amount is only changed to match the maximum pressure of simulation to that of the base model for additional study. It is found that the combustion temperature and pressure increase with the hydrogen addition. And NO emission also increases because of the higher combustion temperature. $CO_x$ emissions, however, are reduced due to the decrease of injected gasoline amount. Also, as the injected gasoline amount is reduced for the same hydrogen addition ratio, the gross indicated work is no significant, But NO and $CO_x$ emissions are considerably decreased. On the order hand, $CO_x$ emissions of two cases are more decreased and their gross indicated works are higher obtained than those of the base model.
This study aims to estimate the amount of air pollutants emitted from heavy industry facilities in North Korea. To compare the emission in 2017 from the heavy industry sector in North Korea with South Korea, the heavy industry sector was classified with the South Korean classification (Matching Heavy Industry sector) and air pollutant emissions by Matching Heavy Industry sector in North Korea were estimated. The CO, NOx and SOx emissions of Matching Heavy Industry sector in North Korea are 22%, 73%, and 31% of the emission in South Korea, respectively. The air pollutant emissions in the Matching Heavy Industry sector in North Korea for CO, NOx and SOx were 0.6%, 124%, and 24% of the total air pollutant emission in North Korea estimated from EDGAR, respectively. As for the distribution of emissions by administrative district of the Matching Heavy Industry sector in North Korea, NOx was concentrated in the western part of North Korea, and CO and SOx emissions were concentrated in Hamgyong-bukto.

Perovskite type compounds of the $La_{1-x}Ca_xFeO_{3-y}$ system were prepared from stoichiometric mixtures of La_2O_3,\;CaCO_3$, and Fe(NO-3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$ by heating at 1100$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The crystallographic structures of the solid solutions of all compositions were orthorhombic systems. X-ray diffraction and Mohr salt analysis revealed that at higher y value the phase transition due to vacancy ordering occured and that the lattice volume decreased when the x value was increased. The value of nonstoichiometric ratio y were found to be in the range of $0.0{\sim}0.5$. Electrical conductivities of this systems are measured in temperature range of -100 to 100$^{\circ}C$. Ionic contribution to total conductivity was found from activation energy in the phase containing the open pathway due to vacancy ordering.
Inorganic pigments have high thermal stability and chemical resistance at high temperature. For these reasons, they are used in clay, paints, plastic, polymers, colored glass and ceramics. $CoAl_2O_4$ nano-powder was synthesized by reverse-micelle processing the mixed precursor(consisting of $Co(NO_3)_2$ and $Al(NO_3)_3$). The $CoAl_2O_4$ was prepared by mixing an aqueous solution at a Co:Al molar ratio of 1:2. The average particle size, and the particle-size distribution, of the powders synthesized by heat treatment (at 900; 1,000; 1,100; and $1,200^{\circ}C$ for 2h) were in the range of 10-20 nm and narrow, respectively. The average size of the synthesized nano-particles increased with increasing water-to-surfactant molar ratio. The synthesized $CoAl_2O_4$ powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis(XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) and color spectrophotometry. The intensity of X-ray diffraction of the synthesized $CoAl_2O_4$ powder, increased with increasing heating temperature. As the heating temperature increased, crystal-size of the synthesized powder particles increased. As the R-value(water/surfactant) and heating temperature increased, the color of the inorganic pigments changed from dark blue-green to cerulean blue.

A single particle analytical technique, named low-Z particle electron probe X-ray microanalysis, was applied to characterize four samples collected at an underground shopping area connected to Dongdeamun subway station, in January and May 2006. Based on the analysis of their chemical compositions of the samples, many distinctive particle types are identified and the major chemical species are observed to be soil-derived particles, iron-containing particles. sulfates. nitrates, and carbonaceous particles. which are encountered both in coarse and fine fractions. Carbonaceous particles exist in carbon-rich and organic. Soil derived particles such as aluminosilicates, AlSi/C, $CaCO_3\;and\;SiO_2$ are more frequently encountered in spring samples than winter samples. Nitrate- and sulfate-con taming particles are more frequently encountered in winter samples, and those nitrate- and sulfate-containing particles mostly exist in the chemical forms of $Ca(CO_3,\;NO_3),\;Ca(NO_3,\;SO_4),\;(Na,\;Mg)NO_3\;and\;(Mg,\;Na)(NO_3,\;SO_4)$. Fe-containing particles which came from nearby subway platform are in the range of about 10% relative abundances for all the samples. It is observed that nitrate- and sulfate-containing particles and carbonaceous particles are much more frequently encountered in indoor aerosol samples than in outdoor aerosols, implying that $NO_x,\;SO_x$, and VOCs at the underground shopping area were more partitioned into aerosol phase.

The adsorption of various atmospheric harmful gases ($CO_x$, $NO_x$, $SO_x$) on graphene-like boron nitride(BN) and aluminum nitride(AlN) sheets was theoretically investigated using density functional theory (DFT) and MP2 methods. The structures were fully optimized at the $B3LYP/6-31G^{**}$ and $CAM-B3LYP/6-31G^{**}$ levels of theory and confirmed to be a local minimum by the calculation of the harmonic vibrational frequencies. The MP2 single-point binding energies were computed at the $CAM-B3LYP/6-31G^{**}$ optimized geometries. Also the zero-point vibrational energy (ZPVE) and 50%-basis set superposition error (BSSE) corrections were included. The adsorptions of gases on the BN sheet were predicted to be a physisorption process and the adsorptions of gases on the AlN sheet were predicted to be a physisorption process for $CO_x$ and $NO_x$ but to be a chemisorption process for $SO_x$.
Dependence of magnetoresistance on base pressure and deposition rates of each Fe, Co, Cu layers in the $Fe(50{\AA}/[Co(17{\AA})/Cu(24{\AA})]_20$ multilayer thin films, prepared by dc magnetron sputtering on Corning glass, were investigated. AFM analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer analysis, and magnetoresustance measurement (4-probe method) were performed. The multilayer films deposited under low base pressure increases magnetoresistance ratio by preventing oxidation. Annealing for the samples at a moderate temperature allowed larger textured grain with no loss in the periodicity. Magnetoresistance ratio of the annealed multilayers was increased due to the increase antiferromagnetically coupled fraction of the film after annealing. Optimization of deposition rate was greater than 1 $\AA$/s for Fe, and 2.8 $\AA$/s for Cu. Deposition rate of Co showed a tendency of increasing of magnetoresistance ratio due to the formation of flat magnetic layer in case of high deposition rate of Co.

A dense mixed ionic and electronic conducting ceramic membrane is one of the most promising materials because it can be used for separation of oxygen from the mixture gas. The $ABO_3$ perovskite structure shows high chemical stability at high temperatures under reduction and oxidation atmospheres. $BaCo_{1-x-y}Fe_xZr_yO_{3-{\delta}}$ (BCFZ) was well-known material as high mechanical strength, low thermal conductivity and stability in the high valence state. Glycine Nitrate Process (GNP) is rapid and effective method for powder synthesis using glycine as a fuel and show higher product crystallinity compared to solid state reaction and citrate-EDTA method. BCFZ was fabricated by modified glycine nitrate process. In order to control the burn-up reaction, $NH_4NO_3$ was used as extra nitrate. According to X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) results, BCFZ was single phase regardless of Zr dopants from y=0.1 to 0.3 on B sites. The green compacts were sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. Oxygen permeability, methane partial oxidation rate and hydrogen production ability of the membranes were characterized by using Micro Gas Chromatography (Micro GC) under various condition. The high oxygen permeation flux of BCFZ 1-451 was about $1ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$. Using the humidified Argon gas, BCFZ 1-433 produced hydrogen about $1ml{\cdot}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$.
