  • The interest in renewable energy which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions has risen in the world including Korea. In Korea, solar energy generation accounts for a major percentage of electricity production using renewable energy and the solar power plants have been increasingly installed in Korea. The problem is, however, that researches on the location selection of solar power plants are unreasonably insufficient although the photovoltaic technology of the domestic solar power plants has been evolving. Thus, advanced solar energy technology could not be fully used. What is more, the indiscriminate installation of the solar power plants seriously damages the nature environment. In this study, conditions of the power plants location are analyzed in consideration of the social, cultural, environmental, economic factors and the optimum location is selected by visualizing and weighing various factors through the analytic hierarchy process. This study shows that the problem caused by the indiscriminate installation of a solar power plant could be prevented by determining the location after considering the influence of several factors. This paper would be helpful not only for the selection of location for solar plant installation in progress, but also for taking follow-up measures on the existing solar power plants placed wrongly.

  • This study aimed to extract the priority safety improvement factors for coastal passenger ships and analyze the perception gap between groups. To extract the improvement factors, we formed an expert group with maritime safety supervisors, passenger-ship safety inspectors (PSIs), and captains of passenger ships, and then conducted a Delphi survey. We found, using a hierarchy process, that the improvement factors were divided into three factors in Level 1 and ten factors in Level 2. For the relative importance analysis using the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) model, we also formed two groups: an inspector group with maritime safety supervisors and PSIs, and an examinee group with safety managers, captains, and crews. Consequently, the factors of designation of public transportation for passenger ships and supporting the welfare of the crew were evaluated as the most important among the extracted factors. We conducted a t-test for the analysis of the perception gap between the two groups. Three perception gaps were found: increasing the inspection personnel, strengthening the qualification of the inspection personnel, and expanding the safety operation center. The result of this study will be useful for improving the safety policy of coastal passenger ships.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the effectiveness of the e-journal process in libraries and information organizations by identifying the relative priority of each criterion in the e-journal consortium. To identify criteria in the process, this study employed a content analysis of previous studies on e-journal and consortium. A total of 73 criteria were found, and these were classified into three categories and 21 sub-categories. Then, the relative weight of each criterion was calculated using an AHP technique. This technique is one of useful tools for collecting experts' opinions. The AHP findings indicated that the cost of the e-journal was the most important criterion in the e-journal consortium. This is followed in priority by users' needs, usage statistics, and others. Using these findings, librarians and information professionals might be able to identify priorities in the e-journal work process, and to improve the effectiveness of the process.

  • Big Data is gathering all the attention from every business community. Pervasive use of machine-to-machine (M2M) applications and mobile devices bring an explosion of data. By analyzing this data, the private and public sectors can benefit in the areas of cost reduction and productivity. The Korean government is actively pursuing Big Data initiatives to promote its usage. This paper aims to select industries which fit for the development of Big Data with a verification of the experts. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is applied to systematically derive the opinion of more than 50 professionals. Medical / welfare, transportation / warehousing, information and communications / information security, energy, the financial sector have been identified as promising industries. The results can be utilized in developing Big Data best practices thus contributing industrial development.

  • The leisure boat industry has the potential to become a high-value-added industry in the future. Recently, a study on Korean high-speed leisure boats for fishing was conducted. This study suggests a product configuration model-based shipbuilding cost estimation method for determining the type of leisure boat suitable for mass production, as part of a research for productivity improvement. The suggested estimation method based on the analysis of the leisure boat process and generic YWBS can calculate quantitative and concrete data. By using this method, the cost of building the catamaran-type design ship can be reduced by 17 times, compared to that of the monohull-type mother ship. This implies that the final design of the Korean high-speed leisure boat for fishing will have a competitive price at the actual production stage.

  • The BTL project, 4 years since its operation, has benchmarked the PFI Project in Japan and has been introduced. Given the evaluation step to select a preferred bidder, in a technological factor, the basic plans are corrected and complemented, whereas in a price factor, the low price bidding system is being enforced. There is concern that how to select preferred bidders and how to operate project costs during operation and management period may be problematic. Thus, in this study, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process, the method of deciding the pribrity to select preferred bidders in an early stage of the project and the evaluation model to evaluate the validity of BTL project expenses in process of project enforcement are established. Targeting the group. composed of experts who have experiences in the BTL project. Then, the levelling of evaluation factors and grouping have been carried out as following: LCC analysis and disbursement for government including two more detailed factors.

  • The feasibility evaluation of public projects has been carried out mainly in the economic analysis. However, items of political, technological and balanced regional development aspects are further evaluated by applying analytic hierarchy process, This paper suggests to analyzes preliminary feasibility study of construction and research & development project during the past three years and to verify correlation between B/C ratio and AHP weight. The result shows that the correlation between cost benefit ratio and the weight of the hierarchy is 0.744 in construction projects and 0.899 in research & development project. Namely, AHP weight be under the control of B/C ratio and is devoted to its role against expectation. Therefore it must be sufficiently discussed in various designs of studies to maximize the effects of AHP analysis.

  • This paper aims to develop a web based GIS system which is able to evaluate and visualize the overall degree (in terms of pleasantness and aesthetics) of pedestrian friendliness of the environment, as well as pedestrians' convenience through a Walkability Indicators that simplify pedestrian environment elements into a quantitative index in accordance with characteristics of pedestrian space. To make this goal come true, we developed and applied Walkability index which can measure the pedestrian environment through reflecting quantitative Indicators based on GIS supplementing the limit of Literature Review. In addition, in order to develop index we utilized AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) and we displayed measurement result on study area through web GIS Services. The proposed pedestrian measurement system is expected to be applicable in the visualization of pedestrian movements and the evaluation of convenience levels of pedestrian environment.

  • Association of South East Asian Nations(ASEAN) has recently decided to develop ASEAN Highway Network to connect member countries by road in an attempt to achieve a goal of closer economic integration in the region. This entailed the necessity to newly construct or upgrade some 5,481 km of road sections to make ASEAN Highway Network functional. This study offers haw we can prioritize development of these road sections using the Analytic Hierarchy Process. Particularly, it shows how individual road sections can be prioritized considering the importance of corridor or road group where the individual road section lies. It also develops how values of different evaluation criteria can be compared in the same scale. This new approach can be useful in prioritizing highway development in such cases where candidate road sections are widely scattered around the region, so detailed benefit and cost analysis is practically too demanding to carry out.

  • Environmental Performance Index(EPI) has shown some limitation. Since it has lack of analysis for the relation between environmental performance and business performance, and public information. Therefore it could not provide valuable information for the shareholders to decide for the investment. In this paper by using Analystic Hierarchy Process (AHP), EPI was calculated giving some weighted scale for each environmental items. Improvement of pollution treatment, general management data such as EMS system, and environmental improvement for the products and process were the main three items when decision makers in bankings are considering the investment for a company. In empirical case, companies which has Environmental-Friendly Coorperation Award from MOE and ISO 14001 certification had shown strong relation between business performance and environmental performance.
