  • This study examines ethical confidence among clinical nurses. Data were collected from the 10th to 29th November 2014 with a structured questionnaire from 125 clinical nurses. The data collected were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 21.0. to obtain percentage, average, mean rating, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. The degree of ethical confidence in research targets showed remarkable differences statistically by age (F=3.14, p=.017), education (F=7.36, p<.001), career duration (t=-2.31, p=.024), and code of ethics knowledge (t=-3.17, p=.002). Ethical Confidence was positively correlated, r=.25(p<.001) with the degree of ethical values. There was a significant difference in Ethical Confidence by ethical value, education, and code of ethics knowledge. The total explanatory power was 15.0% and the explanatory power of the degree of ethical value(${\beta}=.28$) was greater than other factors. To help clinical nurses improve ethical confidence, interventions should be provided to increase ethical value, education, and knowledge about the code of ethics. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and implement such programs to improve ethical confidence in clinical nurses.

  • This study evaluated the moral sensitivity, self-assertiveness, ethical decision-making confidence and their correlations, and the factors that influence ethical decision-making confidence among nurses working in a long-term care hospital. Overall, 149 nurses working in a long-term care hospital in G Province were evaluated. The date was collected from November 30 2019 to December 18, 2019 and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The mean of moral sensitivity among nurses was 4.94, the mean of self-assertiveness was 3.17 and the mean of ethical decision-making confidence was 3.49. The self-assertiveness will, according to the general characteristics, was significantly different according to experienced moral distress, and there was a significant difference in the degree of ethical decision-making confidence according to social positions and experience of ethical education. There were positive correlations between the ethical decision-making confidence and moral sensitivity (r=.382, p<.001) and self-assertiveness (r=.224, p<.01). Regression analysis revealed that the factors that significantly influenced ethical decision-making confidence were moral sensitivity, self-assertiveness and ethical education during nursing practice, which explained 25.0% of variance in ethical decision-making confidence. Therefore, to improve ethical decision-making confidence of nurses, programs should be developed that improve moral sensitivity and self-assertiveness by promoting ethical education.

  • The purpose of the study was to identify the factors affecting the consciousness of biomedical ethics of the nursing students before clinical practice. Data were collected among 183 nursing students in G city, from June 12 to 30, 2017. Data were analyzed by using SPSS 22.0 WIN program. The level of attitude on the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment was $3.20{\pm}0.35$, ethical values was $3.55{\pm}0.27$, consciousness of biomedical ethics was $2.69{\pm}0.20$. Models including the variables, ethical values(${\beta}=.52$, p<.001), major satisfaction(${\beta}=.21$, p=.001), attitude on the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment(${\beta}=-.01$ p=.031), explained 36.6% of the variance in the consciousness of biomedical ethics. Based on the outcome of this study, steps should be taken to design intervention programs that emphasize a improve consciousness of biomedical ethics for nursing students in convergence era.

  • This study was conducted to explore the effects of Moral Sensitivity(MS), Biomedical Ethics Awareness(BEA) on Attitudes toward Withdrawal of Life-Sustaining Treatment(AWLST) of nursing students. The data were collected from May 1, 2018 to May 20, 2018 for 302 nursing students. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. The average degree of MS was 3.45, BEA was 3.69, and AWLST was 3.36. MS was positively correlated with BEA(r=.149, p=.010) and AWLST(r=.223, p<.001). BEA was negatively correlated with AWLST(r=-.129 p=.025). Models including MS(${\beta}=.2.47$, p<.001) and BEA(${\beta}=-.166$, p=.003) explained 7% of variance in the AWLST. It is necessary to provide education that consider the MS, BEA and AWLST level of nursing students to help them establish an acceptable view of AWLST.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate nurses' consciousness of biomedical ethics and professionalism in general hospitals. Participants in this study were 163 nurses working in 3 general hospitals. Data analysis was done using SPSS / WIN 24.0 program. As a result of this study, the consciousness of biomedical ethics of the nurse was moderate. The highest sub-area was 'right to life of fetus' and 'artificial abortion' was the lowest sub-area. The professionalism of the subjects was moderate. The highest sub-area was 'reference professional group' and 'sense of mission' was the lowest sub-area. The nurses' consciousness of biomedical ethics was related to professionalism. Therefore, nurses should be educated to help ethical decision making so that they can have bioethical value and bioethical decision making ability according to the changes and demands of the times. In addition, institutional arrangements to improve professionalism should be provided.

  • With the rapid development of science and technology and their increased impacts on our society, we witness a growing recognition of the importance of engineers' social responsibility and their professional ethics. Especially, the introduction of EC2000 and ABET into engineering education has been contributed to reinforce the systemization of ethics instruction. However, we could not attain the educational goal of integration of engineering education and ethics by general declaration of its importance. We need to deal with the vital questions how to institutionalize and implement engineering ethics in engineering curriculum. This article focuses on three aspects. First, it mainly outlines the developments and the traits of engineering education in American universities. Second, by classifying the engineering ethics education into several patterns, we discuss the characteristics and implications according to those Patterns. Third, it is helpful to explore the way how we could apply these patterns to Korean engineering education. It is expected to combine the stand-alone engineering ethics lectures with ethics -across -the -curriculum considering each university's circumstances and resources. Still, many challenges remain, most notably the need for engineering faculty and non-engineering faculty to cooperate and accept for engineering ethics education.
