  • The purpose of this paper is to present the alternatives for improving coostal shipping logistics system to be a logistic hub-nation with a competitive edge. For this purpose, major environmental factors in Northeast Asia and accordingly its effects are analyzed And then the effects of coastal shipping system's development strategy is analysed using Structural Equation Model and Multiple Regression Model. Research results show that three types of coastal shipping development strategy( connected transportation system, structure of coastal shipping system, governmental support policy) will contribute much to being a logistics hub-nation. From the results, some implications are derived as follows. Firstly, environmental-friendly balanced ocean-coastal transport system is required Secondly, a excusive feeder port, Ro-Ro ship & high-speed ship are necessary to establish the one-stop logistics service system Finally, governmental support policy and subsidy(tax-exempted oil & various tax benefits) are required to reactivate lagged coastal shipping system to be a logistic hub-nation with a competitive edge.

  • One of the policies of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Food and Livestock aims to export $10 billion worth of products. Although it was not easy to achieve the export goal of $ 6.5 billion in 2016, the policy should be pursued continuously. Accordingly, a facility modernization project and high-tech greenhouse project are being implemented to facilitate exports. Moreover, it is possible to consider substitution of imports in the policy shift. Imports of temperate and tropical fresh fruits totaled 1.2 trillion won in 2016. Accordingly, identification of alternatives to tropical and temperate fresh fruit imports will enable farm income to increase and the fresh fruit industry to grow. The major obstacle to tropical fruit production in Korea is high heating costs. However, Jeju Island apple mango farmers found that using non-taxable kerosene and hot water from power plants could reduce heating costs by 42.5%. Indeed, using hot wastewater can reduce heating costs by more than 40%. To improve competition with imported fruits, farmers can change their heating systems using financial support plans (e.g., 20% government subsidies, 20% loans, 30% subsidies from local governments). The income effect and import substitution effect of fruit tree farmers should be carefully analyzed in the future and the study will be closed to discuss the policy direction.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between vitamin D and periodontal diseases based on the raw data of the 5th National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey of 2010. The subjects in this study were 1,327 people, and those whose data on major variables were missing and who suffered from diabetes and/or osteoporosis were excluded. As for data analysis, R2.15.1 program and PASW Statistics 18.0 were utilized. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for all the respondents aged 50 and up, there was no significant relationship between vitamin D and periodontal diseases. 2. As for the post-menopausal women including the women who underwent bilateral ovariectomy, the vitamin D-deficit group 1 (<10) were 6.66-fold more likely to suffer from periodontal diseases than the vitamin D-sufficient group (${\geq}30$) (OR, 6.66; 95% CI, 1.004~44.19). The above-mentioned findings ascertained that vitamin D had a significant negative correlation to periodontal diseases among the post-menopausal women including the women who underwent bilateral ovariectomy. This finding should be taken into account in terms of the prevention and management of periodontal diseases.

  • In terms of the international air transport, the open skies policy implies freedom in the sky or opening the sky. In the normative respect, the open skies policy is a kind of open-door policy which gives various forms of traffic right to other countries, but on the other hand it is a policy of free competition in the international air transport. Since the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, the United States has signed an open skies agreement with many countries, starting with the Netherlands, so that competitive large airlines can compete in the international air transport market where there exist a lot of business opportunities. South Korea now has an open skies agreement with more than 20 countries. The frequent flyer program (FFP) is part of a broad-based marketing alliance which has been used as an airfare strategy since the U.S. government's airline deregulation. The membership-based program is an incentive plan that provides mileage points to customers for using airline services and rewards customer loyalty in tangible forms based on their accumulated points. In its early stages, the frequent flyer program was focused on marketing efforts to attract customers, but now in the environment of intense competition among airlines, the program is used as an important strategic marketing tool for enhancing business performance. Therefore, airline companies agree that they need to identify customer needs in order to secure loyal customers more effectively. The outcomes from an airline's frequent flyer program can have a variety of effects on international competition. First, the airline can obtain a more dominant position in the air flight market by expanding its air route networks. Second, the availability of flight products for customers can be improved with an increase in flight frequency. Third, the airline can preferentially expand into new markets and thus gain advantages over its competitors. However, there are few empirical studies on the airline frequent flyer program. Accordingly, this study aims to explore the effects of the program on international competition, after reviewing the types of strategic alliance between airlines. Making strategic airline alliances is a worldwide trend resulting from the open skies policy. South Korea also needs to be making open skies agreements more realistic to promote the growth and competition of domestic airlines. The present study is about the performance of the airline frequent flyer program and international competition under the open skies policy. With a sample of five global alliance groups (Star, Oneworld, Wings, Qualiflyer and Skyteam), the study was attempted as an empirical study of the effects that the resource structures and levels of information technology held by airlines in each group have on the type of alliance, and one-way analysis of variance and regression analysis were used to test hypotheses. The findings of this study suggest that both large airline companies and small/medium-size airlines in an alliance group with global networks and organizations are able to achieve high performance and secure international competitiveness. Airline passengers earn mileage points by using non-flight services through an alliance network with hotels, car-rental services, duty-free shops, travel agents and more and show high interests in and preferences for related service benefits. Therefore, Korean airline companies should develop more aggressive marketing programs based on multilateral alliances with other services including hotels, as well as with other airlines.

  • The purpose of this Study was to examine the effect of perfectionism on stress and anxiety during scaling practice in an effort to find efficient way of helping students with getting good skills. The subjects in this study were students who practiced a scaling at the oral hygiene practice lab in the Department of dental hygiene in S college from May 1 to May 31, 2008. They were divided into four groups based on their subscales of perfectionism : mixed perfectionist group, achievement striving perfectionist group, failure avoidance perfectionist group and non-perfectionist group. The measurements used were Two-Dimensional Perfectionism Scale, Stress level, Trait anxiety, State anxiety. There were no significant differences in the stress level before practice between 4 groups. There were significant differences in trait anxiety, state anxiety, total anxiety before scaling practice between 4 groups. However, these results were due to differences between mixed perfectionist group and non-perfectionist group. After practice, total anxiety was decreased from 93.71 to 89.66 and state anxiety was decreased from 45.49 to 43.38. These results were statistically significant. In order to investigate the influence of achievement striving factor and failure avoidance factor on the change of state anxiety during the scaling practice Standard Multiple Regression were employed for the statistical analysis. Failure avoidance factor was related with the increase of state anxiety during the scaling practice. So leachers have to give all effort to reduce the anxiety of students during scaling practice and provide students with motivation of achievement.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation of oral health behavior, oral health state and PHP in an effort to facilitate the promotion of oral health and improve oral health care. The subjects in this study were patients who got a scaling at the oral hygiene practice lab in the department of dental hygiene in S college dental clinic from September 5 to December 1, 2007. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 12.0 program. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The younger patients had a smaller number of FT index, and the older patients excelled the younger ones in oral health behavior involving the use of oral hygiene supplies, regular visit to dental clinics and dietary control. 2. The patients got 2.62 out of possible five points on oral health behavior, which indicated that their oral health behavior wasn't good enough. Those whose oral health behavior was better had a smaller number of DT index and a larger number of FT index. A better oral health behavior led to a lower PHP index. 3. There was a negative(-) interrelationship between oral health behavior and DT index, and oral health behavior had a positive(+) correlation with FT index. The oral health behavior had a negative(-) correlation to PHP index, which showed that a better oral health behavior led to a lower PHP index. The above-mentioned findings seem to suggest that oral health behavior is one of integral factors to affect oral health status and PHP index, and the kind of oral health education that could change oral health care attitude should be provided during scaling practice after grasping the actual oral health behavior of patients.

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study is to compare five interdental cleansing products' effectiveness on removing artificial dental plaque on the interdental space of zirconia crowns. Materials and methods. A model with abutments on the right mandibular second premolar and first molar were prepared. 10 zirconia crowns for each abutment were fabricated. After applying artificial dental plaque between the zirconia crowns, a single clinician attempted to remove the plaque with five products: interdental toothbrush, end-tuft toothbrush, dental floss, Easypick, Water pik. They were conducted 10 times per group. The aspect and area of removed surfaces were analyzed using images taken with a digital camera. One factor analysis of variance was performed as a statistical analysis, and a post-hoc test was performed using the Scheffé method (P < .05). Results. There were differences in the area and the pattern according to the characteristics of the products. The largest area, including the marginal portion, was removed in the dental floss group. Interdental toothbrush group was the most effective in removing the dental plaque at the marginal portion. Easypick was less effective than the interdental toothbrush. The end-tuft toothbrush showed better results than other products in cleansing mesiobuccal and distobuccal area, but could not cleanse the area directly below the contact point. In Water pik group, artificial dental plaque was scarcely removed. The removal rate of artificial dental plaque was in the order of floss (69.47%), end-tuft toothbrush (49.36%), interdental toothbrush (44.20%), Easy pick (13.04%), and Water pik (0.59%). Conclusion. Dental floss showed the highest removal rate in the interdental space restored with zirconia crowns, while interdental toothbrush was the most effective in removing the dental plaque at the marginal portion.
