Influence of Soluble Starch Pretreatment and Particle Size on Physical Properties of Powdered Onion during Storage (가용성 전분의 전처리와 입자 크기가 저장중 분말양파의 물리적 성질에 미치는 영향)

  • 열풍건조 전 전처리로서 $50^{\circ}C의$ 2%(w/v)가용성 전분용액에서 20분간 침지를 한 처리구와 건조 후 분말 입자크기가 $40^{\circ}C,$ 90%RH의 저장 중 분말양파의 물리적 성질에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 저장 중 수분흡수는 처리구와 대조구 모두 분말양파의 입자 크기에 관계없이 저장 초기에 빠르게 이루어진 후 저장시간이 지남에 따라서 둔화되었다. 처리구가 대조구에 비하여 저장중 수분흡수가 작게 나타났다. 처리구의 경우 분말입자가 큰 -24+60 mesh의 수분흡수는 저장 6시간 후 처리구와 대조구의 덩어리 형성 정도는 각각 12.26과 60.1%이었다. 입자 크기에 다른 덩어리 형성 정도는 처리구에서 저장 1시간 후 2.28%과 23.6%로 나타났다. 겉보기 밀도에서는 처리구가 대조구에 비하여 전반적으로 높은 값을 나타내었으며 처리구의 경우 수분흡수가 0.03에서 0.12g수분/g고형분으로 늘어남에 따라서 겉보기 밀도는 입자가 큰 분말은 0.49에서 0.38g/㎤이였으며 입자가 작은 분말은 0.31에서 0.29g/㎤로 나타났다. 압축성에서는 입자 크기가 크고, 수분흡수가 많이 이루어진 분말일수록 도한 대조구가 처리구 보다 응집성질을 가지게 되므로 높은 값을 나타내었다. 이완상수에서는 입자가 큰 처리구의 경우 수분흡수가 3.0과 12.1%이루어 진 것을 비교하면 각각 2.45와 2.01로 나타났다. 이는, 수분흡수가 높아짐에 따라서 고체 성질이 줄어들게 됨으로써 이완상수값이 낮아지기 때문이다.

  • Concrete is affected by various deterioration factors, such as $CO_2$ and chloride ions from the sea, which cause carbonation and salt attack on concrete. These deterioration phenomena cause steel corrosion in RC structures. Although a great deal of research has been carried out in this area thus far, it is difficult to know the point at which corrosion will occur to a reinforced bar. As the diffusion of deterioration factors depends on the water content in concrete, it is imperative to assess the condition of absorbed water content. A mass measuring method was applied to calculate the absorbed water diffusion coefficient, as well as non-linear finite element method(FEM) analysis. As a result, it was found that W/C and unit water content in concrete mixture affect the diffusion coefficient decision.

Effect of Hot Water Treatment Times on Moisture Absorption and Germination of Albizzia julibrissin Seeds (열탕처리시간이 자귀나무 종자의 수분흡수 및 발아에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to examine optimal hot water treatment time in Albizzia julibrissin seeds. Germination and moisture absorption characteristics among intact seeds, immersed seeds for 24 hours in distilled water and hot water treated seeds were surveyed. As result, treated seeds showed a highly significant difference with intact and immersed seeds (p<0.0l). Especially, treated seed for 2.0 minutes represented the highest percent of germination (PG). But mean germination time (MGT) did not have significant difference between non-treatment and treatments (p=0.502). Germination speed and germination performance index showed similar tendency with PG. In percent of moisture absorption (PMA) and moisture absorption rate constant (MARC) treatments had higher values than non-treatment whereas 2.0 minutes treatment was lower than non-treatment in initial moisture absorption rate (IMAR). In relation between germination properties and moisture absorption characteristics, all properties except MGT among germination properties had high correlations with PMA and MARC ($r=0.854{\sim}0.931$,p<0.01) whereas IMAR didn't have correlation.

Water Uptake, Cotyledon Damage after Imbibition and Hypocotyl Elongation in Soybean with Different Seed Size and Color (콩 종실크기 및 종피색에 따른 침종후 수분흡수특성, 자엽손상 및 배축 신장력의 차이)

  • The experiment was conducted to determine if seed size and seed coat color of soybean might be effective in water uptake and cotyledon damage after imbibition, and hypocotyl elongation. Eight soybean cultivars were separated into two classes of large and small seed based on seed weight, and each class included two cultivars with yellow and black seed color, respectively. Small seed size group was superior in water uptake by seed for 24 hour in imbibition at $25^{\circ}C$ , but its differences decreased as soaking time increased. Small seed cultivars germinated faster and had better germination rate than large ones. However, cultivars with black seed coat showed more slow water uptake at initial time and faster germination than yellow seed, but in 24 hour after imbibition, cultivars with black seed coat had higher water uptake rate than yellow seeds. Small seed cultivar group showed no cotyledon damage in imbibition for 24 hour while large seed cultivars were damaged 78% of cotyledon, and black seed showed low cotyledon damage compared to yellow seed. Hypocotyl length was shorter in large seed rather than in small seed, but hypocotyl thickness in large seed was more thick than in small seed. In correlation coefficients, seed coat rate, embryo rate exhibited significantly negative association with seed weight, and the correlation of seed weight with water uptake in 3 hour after soaking was significantly negative, but in 24 hour showed positive correlation.

Responses of Soybeans to Water Stress During Germination n. Water Uptake and Osmotic Potential of Soybeans During Germination (토양수분조건에 따른 대두의 발아반응에 관한 연구 제2보 발아기에 있어서 대두의 수분흡수 및 삼투압 변이)

  • Laboratory experiements were conducted to evaluate water uptake and osmotic potential of soybean seeds associated with germinability. Bonus, Wayne, Essex and Pickett were selected for this study. Large and small seeds from the four varieties were included in water uptake measurements at $25^{\circ}C$ There were significant differences in water uptake during germination due to seed size and cultivars at optimum moisture condition, -6 and -15 bars soil moisture. As water stress increased, the water uptake of Pickett and Essex were superior to Bonus and Wayne, and small seeds were superior to large seeds. The seed moisture content at germination was 60.8% on a fresh weight basis under optimum moisture condition. The minimum moisture contents necessary for the germination were 50.2% at -6 bars and 50.9% at -15 bars. There were significant differences among varieties in seed osmotic potential during germination, although these differences depended on imbibition time. The average osmotic potential ranged from -32.0 bars after 4 hours imbibition to -11.2 bars at the beginning of germination. The correlation coefficient between seedling length and osmotic potential was not significant after any period of imbibition, suggesting that osmotic potential is not directly associated with seedling growth. However, osmotic potential is closely related to water uptake capacity of soybean seed.

Study on the Durability of Fiber Reinforced Composites (섬유강화 복합재료의 내구성에 관한 연구)

  • 유리섬유와 에폭시 수지와의 계면전단강도에 미치는 수분흡수, 섬유직경 및 섬유의표면상태 등의 영향을 검토하기 위해서 two fiber fragmentation 시험법을 사용하였다. 그리고 유리섬유/에폭시 수지의 일방향 복합재료에서 수분흡수가 복합재료의 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향에 대해서도 검토하였다. 그 결과, two fiber fragmentation시험에서 계면전단강도는 수분흡수량 및 섬유직경이 클수록 작게 나타났으며, sizing한 것이 desizing한 것보다 크게 나타났다. 또 수분흡습에 의해 감소되었던 계면전단강도는 건조에 의해서 처음의 값의 약 50-60%까지 회복됨을 나타내었다. 그리고 일방향 복합재료의 인장강도는 수분흡수량이 증가함에 따라 현저히 감소함을 보였다.

  • The physiological aspects of tobacco seeds from seeding to germination under light and dark condition, and different temperature were studied to obtain basic information on the production of good seedlings. There were distinct three phases in moisture uptake and respiration process during germination that classifiable into 'Imbibition', 'Lag', and 'Growth' phase under light condition but such growth phase were not observed in the dark germination. Great changes of sugar and fatty acid content of tobacco seeds were observed during germination in light condition but such changes were slight in dark germinated seeds and fatty acid content of seeds during germination were decreased as corresponding to increasing in respiration.

  • Soaking and drying were studied for seven grains and legumes including glutinous rice, brown rice, glutinous brown rice, glutinous barley, Seoritae, Heuktae and red bean to improve taste of cooked mixed grams and make easy to cook then Seoritae and Heuktae showed the highest water absorption and the rest were in the order of glutinous barley, glutinous rice, milled rice, brown glutinous rice, brown rice, and red bean. In regards with water absorption index by soaking temperature, the higher the temperature showed, the more water absorption and the shorter time to reach the water absorption balance, the more grinding legumes. showed the more water absorption and the shorter time to reach to the water absorption balance. The soaked samples were dried at mom temperature $30^{\circ}\C,\;50^{\circ}\C$, and microwave 300 W, 700 W and 1000 W power. As a result 700 W drying method br microwave can dry samples in the shortest time without damage to the samples. Therefore, it was considered as the best pretreatment conditions for mixed stains to dry with 700 W microwave after one-hour soaking at $30^{\circ}C$.

  • Hydration Properties of Olchal(Japonica type) and Hankangchalbyeo $(J{\times}I\;type)$ waxy rices at soaking temperatures of $4-40^{\circ}C$ were examined. The water uptake rate constant of Olchal was greater than that for Hankangchalbyeo. Volume increase rate during hydration of Olchal was faster. The rate constants of hardness decrease during hydration were similar between the two varieties. The Z-value and $Q_{10}$ were $39.7^{\circ}C$ and 1.78, respectively.

  • In this study, the moisture absorption behaviors of the CNT reinforced unsaturated polyester composites were investigated along with exposure temperature and time. The tensile properties of the specimens were evaluated to identify the effect of absorbed moisture on the mechanical properties. The exposure temperatures of $25^{\circ}C$ and $75^{\circ}C$ were considered and the exposure time up to 600 hours was applied. According to the results, moisture absorption rate was increased as CNT content and exposure temperature were increased. The rate of decrease in tensile strength of the CNT reinforced unsaturated polyester composites was reduced due to the reinforcing effect of CNT compared to the unsaturated polyester resin.
