The Influence of Organizational Characteristic of Domiciliary Visit Care Center on Job Stress -with Focus on Seoul Metropolitan Government Care Worker- (방문요양센터 조직특성이 직무스트레스에 미치는 영향 -서울시 요양보호사 중심으로-)

  • The aim of this study is to look into the influential factors on the care-workers-perceived job stress level according as the elderly-perceived satisfaction varies depending on care workers' organizational characteristic & attitudes toward work, and there's necessity of reducing their job stress. Hereupon, this study, targeting the care workers at domiciliary visit care centers in Seoul district, analyzed the influential factors of organizational factors consisting of the sub-factors, such as job autonomy, compensation, education and development, members' interrelationship, etc. on the perception level of job stress. As a result of analysis, it was found that the shorter their working hours, the more their salary, the more guaranteed their job autonomy, and the better their interrelationship is, the care workers at a domiciliary visit care center had a positive perception of job stress. Accordingly, the operators of domiciliary visit care centers are requested to have a lot more concerns for diverse forms of improvements which can not only improve care workers' working conditions, such as daily working hours and a pay level but also promote a sense of fellowship between members; in addition, it is hoped that the operators should improve the organizational environment so that care workers can freely carry out their assigned business with a sense of responsibility rather than relying on control and regulation.

  • 요양보호사는 치매와 같은 질병을 가진 이용자를 돌보는 과정에서 폭력, 폭언 등에 무방비로 노출되어 있으며, 실제로 장기요양기관의 요양보호사가 언어폭력이나 신체적 폭력을 경험한 것으로 나타났다(머니투데이, 2012. 07. 01, 보건복지자원연구원, 2012). 이에 본 연구는 장기요양서비스의 이용자에 의한 폭력경험이 요양보호사의 이직의도에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구는 290명의 요양보호사를 무작위 추출하여 최종 191부를 분석에 활용하였다. 위계적 회귀분석 실시 결과 이용자로 부터의 폭력경험이 이직의도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 통해 요양보호사의 이직의도를 예방하는 함의를 제공하고자 한다.

The Experience of Long-term Caregiver Education Courses (요양보호사 교육과정 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구)

  • This study is for understanding the experiences of students and lecturers in education course for the certification of the long-term caregiver. Samples are 12 students who had completed the course and 7 lecturers. The depth-interview is performed for gathering information and the phenomenological approach is applied to analyse the cases. 33 meanings, 15 themes and 4 theme clusters for students and 25 meanings, 11 themes and 4 theme clusters are found from the cases. Students' experiences are 'vague motivation for enrollment', 'low quality of education,' 'lack of professional skills after the completion of the course,' 'needs for improvement the course' and lecturers' experiences are 'more interests in benefits than study(students' motivation),' 'low quality of education,' 'lack of governmental administration,' 'needs for improvement of the course and the long-term care insurance.' In conclusion, some recommendations are suggested.

Study of the Care Labor Experience of Semi-Aged Caregivers (준고령 요양보호사의 돌봄노동 경험 연구)

  • This study analyzed the characteristics and meaning of care labor by examining the experience of semi-aged caregivers. To that end, in-depth interviews were conducted for a qualitative study of 15 semi-aged caregivers working at elderly care facilities located in the Kyunggi-do region. The interview was conducted with a major focus on three categories: perception of care labor by semi-aged caregivers; stress experienced in the course of care labor; and insights earned through care labor. The analysis showed that semi-aged caregivers have a positive experience through care labor. This finding will contribute to understanding the characteristics and meaning of semi-aged care labor from a different perspective.

The Effect of Managerial Leadership on the Care Burden of Care Workers -Focus on the Leadership of Top-leader and Leadership of Mid-level Leader- (관리자의 리더십이 요양보호사의 케어부담감에 미치는 영향 -시설장의 리더십과 중간관리자의 리더십을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the leadership of the top-leader and the mid-level leader on the care burden of care workers. A survey was conducted on 400 care workers working in long-term care facilities in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. We conducted a hierarchical regression analysis to grasp the effect of the leadership of top-leader and mid-level leader on the care burden of care workers. Monthly income of care workers was significantly associated with care burden. In next step, the leadership of the top-leader affected the care burden of care workers. But, In last model 3, only the leadership of mid-level leader affected the care burden with monthly income. This findings suggested that it is urgent to stabilize the salary level of care workers, and to develop the leadership skills of mid-level leader. The improved leadership of Mid-level Leader will help to reduce jop chaos for care workers.

  • This paper examined the learning transfer of job training participants and its influencing factors. A survey of 279 care workers in the city of Seoul and Kyeong Gi province who recently participated dementia job training was conducted. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that the self-efficacy of the care workers, the capability of instructor, the training methods and the transfer opportunity positively influenced the level of learning transfer. The findings suggested increasing care workers' self-efficacy, enhancing practical skill-based training program, hiring instructors with high workplace experiences, fostering work environment with higher transfer opportunity are required.

  • This study investigated the job satisfaction of care worker affect on service quality. It was intended to provide the basic information for enhancing the Job satisfaction and making better quality of service. In order to meet the above purpose, the questionnaire method was applied for the care workers who worked at the 16 home care facilities located in Busan metropolitan city. 250 sheets of questionnaire were distributed and the total of 216 sheets were sampled among the collected questionnaire and analyzed. For data analysis, the statistics package of SPSS/WIN 12.0 was employed to perform reliability test, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis. And the obtained results are as follows: As the result of the regression analysis to find out how care worker's job satisfaction will affect towards the quality of the service, service quality increased as the care worker's job satisfaction rate was higher. For the job satisfaction's sub-variables, it showed high service quality as the satisfaction was increased in the order of task satisfaction level and job safety level.

  • In December 2014, the study analyzed the wage level of Long-term Care Facilities reported by the National Health Insurance Organization Database. From 2008 to 2014, 1,231.357 people in Korea were acquired qualification for care worker. This study tries to the wage of 1,221,085 care workers. We found out that 91.3% of all are women, and 41% out of care worker qualification were between 50-59 years old. And only 14.8% were employed as care workers. About 73.2% of the nursing care workers had less than 3 years of service at the current job, and their wages were 129.2 million won per month for Nursing Home and 6,421 won per hour for the home care center. In order to investigate care workers, it needs to distinguish between Nursing Home and home care center, and it was also confirmed that wage increases was not reached. In addition, we can question the effect of improvement allowance for better working condition, and suggest fundamental problems for care workers' wage and status.

The Mediating Effects of Emotional Dysregulation on the Relationship between Care Worker's Job Stress and Mental Health (요양보호사의 직무스트레스와 정신건강의 관계에서 정서조절곤란의 매개효과)

  • The study examined the mediating effect of emotional dysregulation on the relationship between care worker's job stress and mental health. The Geriatric Caregiver's Job Stress Questionnaire, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, and The Symptom Check-List-90-R were administered to 154 care workers. Through the hierarchical regression analysis, direct interrelationship among job stress, emotional dysregulation, and mental health was examined. Furthermore, the statistical significance of mediating effect of emotional dysregulation on the relationship between job stress and mental health was tested through the bootstrapping. The result showed that the lack of emotional clarity and the limited access to emotion regulation strategies appeared to have a complete mediation effect on the relationship between job stress and mental health. That meant the necessity of adaptive emotional regulation in dealing with mental health problem elicited by job stress.

Effects of Transformational Leadership on the Organizational Effectiveness of Long-Term Care Facilities : Focusing on the Care Giver's Mediating effect of Empowerment (노인장기요양기관의 변혁적 리더십이 조직효과성에 미치는 영향 : 요양보호사의 임파워먼트 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine effects of empowerment on relationship between supervisors transformational leadership recognized by care givers and organizational effectiveness represented as the job satisfaction and the organizational commitment. For the purpose, survey were conducted with care givers working in long-term care facilities in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon, and final data were resulted from analysis of 283 examines of those care givers. The findings of this study were as follows: first, transformational leadership of long-term care facilities had a significant influence on the job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Second, the care giver's empowerment had a influence on the job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Third, empowerment worked as mediators between the transformational leadership of long-term care facilities and care giver's job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Based upon these findings, we can propose practices towards improving a long-term care facilities administrator's transformational leadership and implication of program development and provide an institutional strategy aiming to care giver's empowerment improvement.
