Development of a Computer-based Training System for Finite Element Method (유한요소법의 컴퓨터 기반 교육시스템 개발)

  • 유한요소법의 강의와 학습을 지원하는 컴퓨터 기반 교육시스템(computer-based training system)을 개발하였다. 이 시스템은 유한요소해석을 요소 모델링에서부터, 최종결과의 계산에 이르기까지 여러 개념과 과정을 가시화하고, 사용자가 직접 상호작용 적으로 실습하고, 해석과정에 개입하여 모의 조작(simulation)하며, 그 반응을 관찰할 수 있는 여러 기능을 갖추고 있다. 이 시스템을 이용하여 실제적인 유한요소해석을 실행 할 수 있다. 따라서 이 시스템을 유한요소법의 보조 교육 재료로 활용할 뿐만 아니라 실제적인 유한요소해석 소프트웨어로 병용함으로써 유한요소법의 교육과 학습의 효과를 높일 수 있다.

Development and evaluation of oral health education program using computer assisted instruction for elementary school children (초등학생 구강보건교육을 위한 컴퓨터 기반 교육 프로그램 개발 및 효과 평가)

  • Objectives : The purpose of the study is to develop and to evaluate the oral health education program using computer assisted instruction(CAI) for the elementary school students. This study was carried out from November, 2012 to February, 2013. Methods : The subjects were 188 elementary school students of the first, second, and third grades in Buk-gu, Busan. The education was provided as computer assisted instruction and conventional classroom education. Three trained dental hygienists recorded three times of knowledge of oral health, oral health attitude, oral health behaviors and the plaque control index(O'Leary index). Results : CAI group showed high score of oral health knowledge of 6.74 points, 8.62 points and 8.38 points(p<0.01). In oral health attitude, the scores were 7.40 points, 8.01 points, and 7.99 points(p<0.05). In oral health behavior, the scores were 5.47 points, 6.14 points, and 5.61 points(p<0.05). The plaque control index was 22.59 points, 19.69 points, and 21.44 points(p<0.01). Conclusions : CAI education program of this study showed the effective education for the elementary school students. So the CAI education program can be useful and disseminated to the community project.

  • There is a growing interest in computer based learning system that can learn a new concept of epistemic frames in response to the demands of $21^{st}$ century Skills. However, there is little research on the theoretical models for the epistemic frames applicable in the changing educational environment and the measurement theories (Psychometric theory, Learning Analytics) that can be evaluated. Therefore, in this study, we propose the core elements of the learning system prototype that can educate the epistemic frames in the practical community. Furthermore, this study explores and suggests an appropriate psychometric measurement theory (learning analytics) that allows us to measure, infer, and evaluate a learner.

  • Recently, the computer aided learning system has promoted a new educational concept and education system. The purpose of this study is to construct a theoretical model for the epistemic frame and evaluation tool which is emphasized according to the 21st century. Specifically, first, this study conducted a domain analysis of epistemic frame. Second, this study developed an evaluation tool to measure epistemic frame. Finally, the evaluation tool is examined in terms of validity and reliability using factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha. As a result, the theoretical model was presented through the consultation of the Advisory Group and the evaluation tool was empirically validated. We expect that this study will provide a useful information to researchers and practitioners who want to develop a computer based learning tool for learning epistemic frame.

  • A potential advantage of computer-based education is individualized instruction. In this regard, issues regarding how to evaluate individual learners fast and accurately in order to implement customized instruction program and to open education are raised. In this study, we suggest through a simulation study a way to reach an optimal decision by complementing the insufficient point of the way of the decision of the existing SPRT(Sequential Probability Ratio Testing) in which the number of questions in a test decreases while decision on pass or fail is relatively exact. For the purpose, the data of the examinees obtained from actual tests were used in this study and we present that simulation to verify the accuracy of decision and Multilevel SPRT decision standard for initial set point for optimal SPRT decision and evaluate the ground of the same through simulation.

  • One of the potential advantages of computer-based instruction is individualization of instruction. However, this goal has not been fully realized in practice, due largely to limitations of natural language understanding and to combinatorial explosion. It is nonetheless possible to develop CAT(Computer- based Adaptive Testing) Programs which can adapt to students, depending on their performance, by adjusting the length of computer-based tests. The number of questions can be significantly reduced for many individuals, while mastery and nonmastery decisions remain highly accurate. In this paper, We design and implement a Diagnosis System using SPRT(Sequential Probability Ratio Testing). This system supports multimedia object, client/server environment, indvidual feedback, multi-SPRT and maintain student model for individualization of instruction. besides, this system measures coefficient alpha of each problem.

  • This paper describes an experiment of concrete and specific group work learning system based on the traditional Jigsaw group work learning model. Jigsaw model has two groups of students such as random group and expert group so that a course can make progress on explaining and lecturing all members of class after each student can be a member of expert group of course topic. We design and implement Web-based training system to support collaboration and Interaction among students of a course based on Jigsaw model The Web- based learning system makes each group going up to the expert level of a course subject by supporting various study menu and provides equal opportunity of improving social abilities such as leadership, communication skill, trust, and trouble-settling by taking part in collaboration activities.

  • e-Learning can be seen as not only one of Internet based information systems which can provide education services, but also one of teaching-learning methods which can implement self-directed learning. This paper tests factors affecting the e-Learning performance based on information systems success model and self-efficacy theory using a field study. Questionnaires are collected from 216 students who are enrolling a e-learning class using online survey. The results are following: first, the service quality and self-efficacy are significant predictors of use intention, but system quality and information quality are not. second, the system quality, information quality, service quality and self-efficacy are significant predictors of user satisfaction. Third, use intention and user satisfaction are found to be a strong predictor of the learning performance.

  • Internet has been applied to the educational field such as data search, lecture by motion picture, realtime examination. Most questions made for these remote examinations use methods of making questions randomly using fixed questions or item pools. The designed system in this paper makes questions without knowing MARK-UP language and after undergoing examinations on Web. Also it readjusts degree of difficulty automatically on the basis of the rate of correct answers. In addition, this enables learners to perform feedback learning after examinations and subsequently learners themselves to adjust their degree of difficulty and undergo reexaminations. The automatic selection system makes it easy to select questions, possible to expect average marks and number of questions made, and to prevent that questions may be made too easy or too hard. For a remote examination, as there are much possibilities of dishonesty such as examination by proxy so different types of problems are made, and problems of the rationality caused from that can be avoided.

  • In comparison with the acquirement of knowledge by expression of symbol or numerical formula, the experience based knowledge acquirement give stable and clear understanding of information to a learner. Various educational systems based on computer such as virtual reality, intelligent learning system, visualization of concept, simulation-based system, and microworld have so far been developed. In this paper, a method of two dimensional visualization of a physical law by simulation has been suggested to educate a learner. Especially, learning the law of gravity by simulation based educational method gives a learner indirect experience that enhance the efficiency of knowledge acquirement clearly. The visualization methods of a real-time physical law and a virtual anomalies' physical law by simulation are proposed in this paper to deliver information or knowledge clearly. Then we show that a learner can acquire some knowledge effectively by the proposed method.
