  • In this paper, the research is to develop a system that can detect the breakage of the rubber belt conveyor system in the transport of the raw materials required for the operation of logistics. We are to develop a system that can detect the breakage of the belt due to the electronic system of belt breakage occurs by placing the material on the inside of the belt, electric induction to minimize the damage of the belt. The belt repair costs, or reorder the steps of the logistics transit time can be reduced. Induced in the coil, and belt embedded in the transmitted signal as a way to detect the breakage of the belt was to detect the damage of the belt by detecting the electrical phenomena induced in the coil at the receiving end.

A Study on the Monitoring of Tool Fracture using Motor Current in Turning (선반가공에서 모터 전류를 이용한 공구 파손 감지에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, monitoring method of tool fracture using motor current was proposed for turning process. In order to take more reliable current signal, cutting force signal was compared as reference signal because cutting force signal is reliable, and analysis of signal correlation between cutting force and motor current was performed. The static components of the cutting force and motor current signals were correlated very well for different cutting conditions, and it was proven to use the motor current as an proper sensor for monitoring of tool fracture. To understand the characteristics of motor current, various kinds of cutting experiment were performed including tool fracture experiments. As a result, a new method to detect tool fracture using motor current in turing was proposed, and a large number of fracture experiments were carried out to evaluate the reliability of the proposed method. Finally, it can be possible to detect the tool fracture reliably.

Study of Optical Fiber Sensor Systems for the Simultaneous Monitoring of Fracture and Strain in Composite Laminates (복합적층판의 변형파손 동시감지를 위한 광섬유 센서 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • To perform the realtime strain and fracture monitoring of the smart composite structures, two optical fiber sensor systems are proposed. The two types of the coherent sources were used for fracture signal detection - EDFA with FBG and EDFA with Fabry-Perot filter. These sources were coupled to EFPI sensors imbedded in composite specimens. To understand the characteristics of matrix crack signals, at first, we performed tensile tests using surface attached PZT sensors by changing the thickness and width of the specimens. This paper describes the implementation of time-frequency analysis such as short time Fourier transform (STFT) and wavelet transform (WT) for the quantitative evaluation of fracture signals. The experimental result shows the distinctive signal features in frequency domain due to the different specimen shapes. And, from the test of tensile load monitoring using optical fiber sensor systems, measured strain agreed with the value of electric strain gage and the fracture detection system could detect the moment of damage with high sensitivity to recognize the onset of micro-crack fracture signal.

  • Fracture of a cutting tool is one of the most serious problems in machining systems. Therefore, several methods have been proposed so far to detect cutting tool fracture. However, most of them have some problems from the viewpoint of practical applications. In this study, the feasibility of using acoustic emission and cutting force signals for the detection of massive tool breakages as well as small fracture of cutting tools were investigated. Turning experiments were performed using conventional carbide inset tools under realistic cutting conditions and the SM45C steel and heat treated SM45C steel were used as a workpiece. And the sensitivities of the AE and cutting force signals to the fracture of cutting tools were illustrated. Finally, a detection algortithm for the fracture of cutting tools was developed through the analysis of these dual signals in the several types of tool fracture.

Simultaneous Sensing of Failure and Strain in Composites Using Optical Fiber Sensors (광섬유 센서를 이용한 복합재의 파손 및 번형률 동시 측정)

  • In aircraft composite structures, structural defects such as matrix cracks, delaminations and fiber breakages are hard to detect if they are breaking out in operating condition. Therefore, to assure the structural integrity, it is desirable to perform the real-time health monitoring of the structures. In this study, a fiber optic sensor was applied to the composite beams to monitor failure and strain in real-time. To detect the failure signal and strain simultaneously, laser diode and ASE broadband source were applied in a single EFPI sensor using wavelength division multiplexer. Short time courier transform and wavelet transform were used to characterize the failure signal and to determine the moment of failure. And the strain measured by AEFPI was compared with the that of strain gage. From the result of the tensile test, strain measured by the AEFPI agreed with the value of electric strain gage and the failure detection system could detect the moment of failure with high sensitivity to recognize the onset of micro-crack failure signal.

  • In contrast to the machineries using rolling element bearings, systems with journal bearings generally operate in large scale and under severe loading condition such as steam generator turbines and internal combustion engines. Failure of the bearings in these machineries can result in the system breakdown. To avoid the time consuming repair and considerable economic loss, the detection of incipient failure in journal bearings becomes very important. In this experimental approach, acoustic emission monitoring is applied to the detection of incipient failure caused by several types of abnormal operating condition most probable in the journal bearing systems. It has been known that the intervention of foreign materials, insufficient lubrication and misassembly etc. are principal factors to cause bearing failure and distress. The experiment was conducted under such designed conditions as hard particles in the lubrication layer, insufficient lubrication, and metallic contact in the simulated journal bearing system. The results showed that acoustic emission could be an effective tool to detect the incipient failure in journal bearings.

  • The objective of this research is to develop real-time failure detection techniques for damage assessment of composite materials using optical fiber sensors. Signals from matrix cracking or fiber fracture in composite laminates are treated by signal processing unit in real-time. This paper describes the implementation of time-frequency analysis such as the Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT) to determine the time of occurrence of failure. In order to verify the performance of the optical fiber sensor for stress wave detection, we performed pencil break test with EFPI sensor and compared it with that of PZT. The EFPI sensor was embedded in composite beam to sense the failure signals and a tensile test was performed. The signals of the fiber optic sensor when damage occurred were characterized using STFT and wavelet transform. Failure detection system detected the moment of failure accurately and showed good sensitivity with the infinitesimal failure signal.

  • The purpose of this study is to prevent the malicious user from breaking the door-lock due to physical impact. If it matches the analog displacement value set in the door-lock system, it protects the body and property by transmitting damage information in real time to the manager smart phone. The research suggests a system that transmits damage information in real time to registered users when door-lock is damaged by physical impact. Then compare the impact information sensed by the door lock with the data of the sensitivity control unit. In the web server of the proposed system, after impact information transmitted from Door-Lock is stored in the DB, if the impact information is larger than the shock detection transmission reference value stored in the DB, it is transmitted to the administrator in real time by SMS module so that illegal access information.

  • Various type of pavement deterioration such as crack, bumpy, pothole is rapidly increasing according to the accelerated environmental changes like heavy rainfall, frequent snowing, difference temperature, etc. Accident related to pothole that cause fatal traffic accidents has been increased more than five times over the next five years starting from 2008. As direct or indirect damage by pothole which caused injuries and car damages increases every year, quicker and more efficient management measures are necessary. This study presents the algorithm for materials quantity take-off. The algorithm was suggested by correlation in pothole size and area. Suggested algorithm were confirmed the validity through the 15 field survey in capital area. According to the results of survey, usually the residual materials at which 5~7 kg was generated decreased to 1~2 kg. It showed that automatic pothole detection system is expected not only to reduce materials and resources, but also to contribute to quality improvements of pavement through more accurate material take-off from the situation of constructing rely on their own judgement.

  • 최근 스마트폰 보급률 증가 및 무선 센서 네트워크(Wireless Sensor Networks) 기술 발전에 따라 해당 기술을 화재감시, 침입 감지와 같은 응용에 융합하는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 하지만 기존 연구들은 주기를 기반으로 감지를 수행하기 때문에 화재 및 침입 판단이 지연되는 문제점이 존재한다. 이를 위해, 본 논문에서는 판단 주기를 동적으로 설정하는 조기 화재 판단 알고리즘을 통해 화재 판단 시간을 단축시켜 빠른 대처를 할 수 있도록 지원하는 새로운 화재감시 및 침입 감지 시스템을 개발한다. 아울러, 적외선 센서를 이용하여 무단 침입을 감지함으로써 도난 및 파손과 함께 방화로 인한 화재를 방지할 수 있다. 마지막으로 성능평가를 통해 제안하는 시스템이 화재 판단 측면에서 기존 연구보다 우수함을 입증한다.
