외부 유기적 혁신모델(External Organic Innovation Models)의 성공-실패 사례 분석

  • 기업의 성장동력 전략으로 내부 개발역량에 의존하는 자생적/유기적(Organic Growth) 방식과 전략적 제휴나 인수/합병을 통해 외부 자원을 활용하는 비유기적 성장(Inorganic Growth) 방식을 나눌수 있다. 하지만 이러한 혁신전략 안에는 성공과 실패가 공존하고 있으며 특히 최근에는 조직내 혁신을 달성하기 위해 연구 및 개발, 상용화에 이르기까지 혁신 과정을 개방하여, 외부 자원을 적극활용함으로써 혁신의 비용을 줄이고 성공가능성을 높여 부가가치 창출을 극대화하는 혁신활동중 하나로 개방형혁신(Open innovation)을 많이 활용 하고 있다. 하지만 더 나아가 사업의 지속 가능한 성장을 위해서는 External Organic Innovation을 같이 활용하는 새로운 혁신전략 활동 전개가 필요하다. 그래서 본 연구에서는 이러한 혁신 전략들의 성공-실패 사례분석을 통해 4차 산업혁명시대에 맞는 혁신전략을 살펴보고자 한다.

A Systematic Literature Review of Manufacturing Companies' Innovation Strategies in Korea (한국의 제조기업 혁신전략에 대한 체계적 문헌 연구)

  • When discussing a company's technology management, manufacturing companies' innovation strategy is vital because it is connected to each company's competitive advantage in various ways, such as technology acquisition, R&D, and product innovation. The research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies has been studied in various ways, such as performance and resources for innovation; however, very little research has been done to synthesize existing research outcomes. In this study, we conduct a systematic literature review of 51 articles related to manufacturing companies' innovation strategies. By doing so, we synthesized the results of extant studies based on three perspectives: the research target, the research focus, and the types of innovation strategies. In addition, I derived the unique properties of the research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies. The analysis indicated that Korea's research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies had been unequally distributed. Based on this, we suggested research agendas for future research on manufacturing companies' innovation strategies.

  • This study aims to examine the impact of Self-leadership(behavior- focused strategies, natural reward and constructive thought pattern to Technology Innovation. Hypotheses were tested by surveying 306 employees at Gumi Industrial Complex. The findings are as follows : First, two factors of Self-leadership had a significant positive effect on the product innovation except constructive thought pattern strategies. Second, two factors of Self-leadership had a significant positive effect on the process innovation except constructive thought pattern strategies.

The Effect of the fit between Innovation Strategy and Company Characteristics on Innovation Performance (혁신전략과 기업특성 간의 적합성이 혁신성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the fit between innovation strategy and firm characteristics on innovation performance. We conducted surveys for venture companies in the Southeast region, The results of multiple regression analysis based on 135 questionnaires are as follows : First, the higher the fitness between innovation strategy and social network level, the higher the innovation performance. Second, the higher the fitness between innovation strategy and management control system level, the more positive effect on innovation performance. Finally, the higher the fitness between innovation strategy and innovation culture, the higher the innovation performance. This result implies that the enterprise characteristics should be designed and operated in accordance with the innovation strategy implementation.

  • 오늘날의 경영환경은 불완전할 뿐만 아니라 경쟁이 심화되어 기업간 경쟁의 범위를 벗어나 공급사슬간의 경쟁으로 옮겨가고 있으며, 정보기술관리과 eBusiness가 급격히 발전하면서 공급사슬관리(SCM)를 최적화하기 위해서는 기업의 경쟁전략과 공급사슬전략 그리고 제품 특성을 반영하여 공급사슬이 설계되고 운영되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 제품의 특성을 수요 측면을 중심으로 혁신적 제품과 기능적 제품으로 특징지을 수 있는 제품의 혁신성을 측정하고, 제품의 혁신성이 공급사슬 전략에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위하여 각 공급사슬관리(SCM)의사결정영역에서의 공급사슬관리가 어느 정도 이루어지고 있는가를 살펴봄으로써 전략에서의 차이점을 규명하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 제품의 혁신성이 공급사슬관리(SCM)의사결정영역에 미치는 영향을 검증함으로써, 기업들에게 자사 제품에 대한 전략적 분석 필요성의 개념적 근거를 제시하고자 한다. 또한 제품특성, 제품 전략, 공급사슬 전략, 기업경쟁전략의 연계적 개념을 제공하고 자사의 공급사슬의 효율성과 반응성을 진단할 수 있는 프레임워크를 제공하고자 한다.

Knowledge-based company's technology innovation strategy and case analysis in semiconductor IP industry (반도체 IP 산업에서 지식기반 기업의 기술혁신 전략에 대한 사례연구)

  • This study analyzed the technology innovation strategies of knowledge-based companies in the semiconductor IP industry. The theoretical approaches of this study are to i) the creation, protection and utilization of knowledge and innovation, ii) value creation from innovation, iii) modularity, timing of market entry, and the emergence and competition of standard (dominant design). Based on the theoretical analysis, I presented exploratory research hypotheses. Ultimately, this study examined the proposed hypotheses by conducting case studies on the technology innovation strategy of two leading knowledge-based companies in the semiconductor IP industry: ARM and INTEL. First, knowledge-based companies entering in the early stage of the technology cycle select the vertically-integrated technology strategy because of lower access to complementary knowledge assets, and maintain the vertically-integrated technology strategy despite the environmental change-driven differentiation of industry's value chain. Second, knowledge-based companies entering in the later stage of the technology cycle prefer the contract-based technology strategy because of its increased accessibility to complementary knowledge assets, and choose a different path of innovation strategies depending on whether their asset has the feature of discontinuity or not.

  • Ever since Parkland corporation went into domestic men's fashion market with his own brand 'Parkland' in 1988, the company accomplished enormous sales increase compared to competitors and attained steadfast positioning as a leading brand with competence. This case study deals with the parkland's systematic efforts mainly focused on integrated business innovation such as production, distribution, and management innovation, and shows Parkland's differentiated marketing strategy which leads to outstanding business performance. And, strategic implications to succeed in the long run are followed.

창업기업의 전략적 제휴와 성과간의 관계에 미치는 혁신 역량강화 투자활동의 영향

  • 창업기업의 성과는 창업가 개인의 역량 뿐 만 아니라 네트워크 등 기업가 정신이 발현되는 모든 영역의 요소들이 작용한다. 재무적 자원에서부터 기업의 기능별 역량과 자원에 이르기까지 충분하지 않은 창업기업들은 전략적으로 기업이나 대학과 같은 외부 주체들과의 제휴를 추진하여 성과향상을 의도할 수 있다. 전략적 제휴와 기업 성과 간의 관계는 전략경영분야에서 오랫동안 다루어져 온 연구 주제였다. 다만, 창업기업이라는 한정된 역량과 자원 상황에서 창업 기업이 실제로 이러한 전략적 제휴를 통해 재무성과를 향상시키는지에 대한 연구는 미흡하였다. 이에 본 연구는 창업기업의 전략적 제휴가 재무성과에 미치는 영향을 규명하고 그러한 관계에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 혁신역량 강화활동으로서 R&D투자와 교육훈련 투자의 영향을 분석하고자 한다. 또한, 창업기업이 보유한 인적 여유자원(slack resource)의 역할도 함께 규명하여 창업기업의 전략적 제휴와 관련한 행동적 특성을 논의하고자 한다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 기업이 전략적 제휴를 통해 보다 나은 성과향상을 위한 투자로서 다양한 혁신역량 강화활동 필요성에 대한 시사점을 제시할 것으로 기대한다.

The Configurational Interaction of Digital Transformation, Dynamic Capabilities, and Open Innovation for Disruptive Innovation in Startups (디지털 전환, 동태적 역량, 개방형 혁신의 구성주의적 상호작용이 스타트업의 파괴적 혁신 잠재력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines how a startup's digital transformation strategy shapes disruptive innovation potential by integrating the mediating role of dynamic capabilities and the moderating role of open innovation intensity within a single analytical model. We address limitations of prior work that views digital transformation as mere technology adoption and interprets disruptive innovation mainly in resource-abundant settings. Adopting a constructivist perspective, we relocate the interaction among digital transformation strategy, dynamic capabilities, and open innovation to the startup context, where resource constraints and strategic agility intersect. Using survey data from 187 technology-based startups in Seoul and Gyeonggi, we test a moderated-mediation model. Results show that digital transformation strategy positively influences disruptive innovation potential through dynamic capabilities. Open innovation intensity operates as a pure moderator on both direct and mediated paths, and the indirect effect becomes significant only when openness is at least moderate, indicating a threshold condition. Theoretically, the findings reconceptualize digital transformation strategy as a qualitative shift in an organization's strategic architecture and value-creation mechanisms whose impact materializes through dynamic capabilities. They also position open innovation as a strategic facilitator that tunes digital transformation effectiveness internally and externally, and identify a threshold level of openness that strengthens disruptive innovation potential under resource constraints. Managerially, the study proposes a constructivist pathway for startups: link digital initiatives to enterprise-wide transformation programs, institutionalize dynamic capabilities as learning, reconfiguration, and execution processes, and manage openness above the threshold. We offer academically grounded, actionable guidance on converting strategy?capability?openness alignment into realizable disruptive innovation outcomes in resource-constrained environments.

  • The objective of this case study is to analyze how effectively KIA SOUL, which is a leading Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) brand, has created a new market space through innovative product strategy. Up until now, most car manufacturers have focused only on the traditional product market segments missing out on the opportunity of the crossover segment market. KIA SOUL found a new market space by identifying the high crossover utility demand and filling the gap between the current product category values and the emerging crossover product category values. This case study illustrates that an innovative product strategy can be effectively employed to create a new market space in the saturated car manufacturing industry. The case summarizes that the innovative product strategy of KIA SOUL is comprised of four primary pillars: design innovation, market frontier in CUV, the first company to launch customizing service brand-TUON, and functional innovation. The KIA SOUL case study provides valuable insights and implications for many other companies that are planning to find "blue oceans" for their own business.
